I decided to visit this park only after watching your video and I loved it so much. Sooo many cats of all shapes (colours I mean) and sizes! And almost all of them were so friendly except for a few who I think were a little disappointed because I didn’t bring any treats 🙈

Just keep food away and aggressively warn them then they would know bold actions like attacking won't help them even reduce the chance getting food..

Of course it's the yellow one... Ugh. Btw, although the strays are friendly, they are still animals and should be approached appropriately. Both cats and dogs can hurt you, if they feel uncertain about your intentions. So, easy with the selfies and pay attention! It's good to love them from a respectable distance. Let the wild be wild.

I lived in Istanbul for years in Istanbul taking care of street cats. There are 1 million of them there. It's not a paradise, it's a nightmare. The problem isn't that Turkish people don't value cats, they do. They love cats and feed them a lot- but they do NOT believe in neutering them ! They don't neuter street cats or their own cats (and they let them out all day). They just let the cats have babies like crazy. As a result, there's a huge cat overpopulation problem. No matter how much the locals take care of the street cats, they're always starving, sick, injured, some freeze to death in winter. Beneath the cute surface of a documentary like "Kedi," there's this hellish reality. The government doesn't care about street cats and there are no organizations that take care of them. So some locals and foreigners like myself pay out of pocket to neuter them and pay for their vet bills. A lot of us are in debt to vets and have 5-10 cats in our homes (because some street cats need to be taken care of) in addition to feeding cats outside. Yes, the whole city is a petting zoo and that's cute, but it's just not the reality. If you want to help, please go to FB groups "Cihangir cool for cats" or "Tails of Istanbul"

Finally someone who sees the reality and not just the upper level. The situation of stray animals in Istanbul and throughout Turkey is catastrophic. This cat park is just a shop window, but it is not a solution due to the constant reproduction. Due to their culture and religion, Turks consider dogs and cats unclean. That is why they have been mistreated for centuries. They would rather poison than feed them. Erdoğan ordered the shooting of stray dogs. The result of the heroic work of animal rights activists for several decades was that in 2018 a law was adopted that dogs and cats are not objects, but living beings, and therefore a higher penalty is imposed for abusing them! Now there are animal protection campaigns, where the public's attention is drawn to the correct treatment of animals. This park demonstrates this, but few Turks accept stray animals into their homes. However, their reproduction is not limited. So, this situation is better than exterminating them, but it is not a solution!

Do you or anyone else know what happened to the Tombili cat statue in kadikoy? I searched for it all day and couldnt find it. Google wasnt correct, and no locals seemed to know what happened to it either. Anyway this park is awesome, one of the few positive experiences I had while in turkey sadly.

They probably do take them home but there are so many. Over here in the U.S. we have animal rescue people that trap them, take them to the vet and have them spayed and neutered. Then they try put the friendliest ones up for adoption and return the feral cats back to the streets.
