Hi, olga before taking money from exchange offices ask them count the money with money counting machine before you take it. That way you can easily spot the fake bills. As a Turk I have never given a fake lira so please report the exchange office to the police if you have time

So whats the safest place to exchange money? a bank or an exchange office? So either one, witness it on a counting machine, if its a fake what happens how would i see that??

Excellent and detailed video. By the way I have also heard of a scam that happens in Italy and quite possible can happen anywhere. This is especially on the buses from Airport to the city center that is typically a long ride of 30 minutes plus. A passenger who is a con will buy a ticket as though like a traveler from Airport to city center. He will check in a bag, inside which will be a con man / thief usually trained small young boys. Once the bus starts, the thief comes out of his bag and probes the luggage in the bus, and steals the valuables and goes back and zips inside his bag. Once the bus reaches the destination the con man picks up his suit case and walks away with his partner in the suit case and his loot. Any other passenger will pick their luggage only to find out later that something is missing. So the advice here is Even if you have a carry on bag, be sure to keep those valuables out of them if you put them in the bus luggage compartment. Take the valuables and keep them with you during these bus rides. Thank you.
@OlgaProGoingPlaces2 жыл бұрын
crazy story! yeah, keeping the valuables in your hand luggage is a very good advice, as things can get stolen even by workers at the airport sometimes (I don’t know if it happens in Turkey, but I know in other countries it does)

You should have taken the fake note back to the exchange place. Regardless if you had kept the receipt or not. Exchange offices are licensed businesses. They cannot just scam customers. They will be shut down. You can still make a police report.

Wow...what a shocker on the fake 100 tl bill. I just exchanged a $100 bill too today in Istanbul and just ran and checked them. Fortunately they looked and felt authentic. sorry for your experience. On Airbnb, I also have experienced misleading photos of the interior of the apartments showing them extra big and roomy while when you get there, it is far from it. I have warned Airbnb to ban the use of wide-angle cameras that simply lie about the size of the apartment. Thanks for the informative video.

robot/machine scam... no recourse. While traveling in the US Pacific Northwest recently a cash/ATM machine did not return my debit card (that feels like theft). I called the local bank branch and all they could offer was an apology which seemed thoughtful but meaningless. 7->10 days for my bank to mail a replacement card to my home... this could have been a very inconvenient travel experience. Turkey looks like a very good travel destination. I should research the language situation... I only speak English. thanks for sharing, enjoy

I paid 70 Euro for a taxi ride from Besitktas Istanbul to Airport last week around 10:15 am using Toll Road. I believe I got rip-off because I was in a hurry to the airport. The taxi driver said the normal price is 50 euro to the airport, and additional 20 euro for using toll road. However, I paid a limo SUV ride only 650 lira ($38 USD) from the airport to Besitktas Istanbul which was a normal good price.
@OlgaProGoingPlaces2 жыл бұрын
if it was a regular yellow taxi, you should have asked to go by the meter and the price indeed would be much lower. Also never agree to a price in currency other than Turkish Lira. I talk about possible scams more here kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZK5lYZ8g5V3gtE

There are many agencies and lawyers who say that Turkey's residence policy has been tightened since March this year. Is this true? Some people were refused residence in Istanbul, what happened? Could you please introduce the current residency policy in Turkey in detail. Thank you!
@OlgaProGoingPlaces2 жыл бұрын
I did hear these rumors too. But I am not a lawyer so I don’t have the authority to confirm any of them. The only change that is for sure is that now the rental contract has to be notarized in the presence of both parties. Other than information on the official government website, I don’t know another source. e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/
@chrispine71512 жыл бұрын
I called the immigration hotline 157 and they said the residency policy has not changed. Many people find it difficult to fill in the residence application form. Can you make a video about filling out the form? Thank you so much for your love and wisdom!
@OlgaProGoingPlaces2 жыл бұрын
if the officials said there is no change, then there is none. maybe they just started to be more strict with the rules that are already in place (like proof of sufficient funds). I cannot unfortunately make a video about filling out the form, because then I have to apply online with my actual data. if you have issues with the form you can comment on my video about Ikamet. I don’t have all the answers though, only from my own experience.

First I want to say I love Turkiye, but I feel you do have to be careful (just like any major city). I have 2 negative experiences. The most recent one occurred in a Taxi. I handed the driver the money (which I counted twice), then I saw him slip one of the bills under his leg and turn around and say we were 100 tl short. I quickly called him on it, and told him I would not give him any more money and that he could call the police and I would tell them what he did. Of course he didn't and he dropped trying to get the extra money. The other was a situation of pick pocketing. My son was very young and i was carrying him, and about 5 fully covered (including their face) women managed to get near me at a bus station and reached in and took all my money and some gold I had just bought. I didn't discover it until I was on the bus and we were pulling away. However, I have been to Turkiye a lot and these are my only 2 mishaps.
