However, it was the most beautiful city during 1940s and early 1950s. City had only 600 thousand population (while Turkey had a population of 16 million) and the best part was the Asian side. Kadikoy thru Bagdat Caddesi to Bostanci where only trams operated, it was the summer place for the wealthy with beautiful wooden houses called yali on both sides of the Bagdat Caddesi. I lived there year round during those years and during the winter months Kadikoy, Kiziltoprak thru Bostanci was a deserted place. You could hardly see any person on the streets. Moda, Fenerbahce, Caddebostan ve Suadiye swimming beaches with beautiful and clean sea were fantastic places. You swam along with fishes. During the summer nights we all walked to open air theaters to watch cowboy movies. There were no busses and hardly any automobiles around. Those were the days !.

Istanbul is a member of an exclusive club of world class cities where 3 or more cultural traditions have deeply integrated into daily life. Similar to Singapore, Sao Paulo, London, Los Angeles, New York in this respect.
@ercanbanka537719 күн бұрын
Non of the Mentioned Cities is as old and historical as Istanbul , not even close , it's maybe not the most Beautiful or modern but it's definitely historically in my top 3 of European/Asian Cities .

@@ercanbanka5377 The long history is another dimension of Istanbul's appeal. The other cities I listed are comparable in terms of the lifestyle and cultures of the residents today, but not in terms of history. On the other hand, if you want to compare history Istanbul has another set of peers like Jerusalem, Rome, Damascus, Alexandria, Athens.

Ottoman mosques are the continuation of Roman architecture. Look at Haghia Sophia and old Roman churches, you will understand. Ottomans were Roman descendants after all. Ottoman lands were called "Diyar-i Rum", the land of Rome by all other cultures, including themselves.
@chawquee3 ай бұрын
Absolutely it is not a pure Islamic archetecture which means 100% created from muslim civilisation icons and engineering . The Only really 100% Muslim civilisation Architecture is AL ANDALUS I Lived in both places and AL HAMRA and Andalusian architecure has no comparable .. Simplicity and sophistication in the same time the icons the Arabic calligraphy and th symmetry and all arcs are made based on th emaths root 2 thats why you feel you are in paradise in Alhamra the best and the top of Moorish civilisation and the science and the philosophy and the literature is the best in all muslim civilisation .

@@chawquee There is NO 100% this or that civilization! Arabs were desert bedouins. They learned from others immensely. Islamic scholars studied pagan ancient Greek, Mesopotamian, Christian, etc civilizations. Christians in Western Europe learned a lot from Muslim scholars, Ancient Greek civilizations, etc. Your view is absolutely and categorically very uninformed and surfacial!

You are saying this as if you are still a Roman , Roman was not a Race and they do not exist anymore , the Etruscans created the Roman Civilization or it was built over their legacy , and they came from Anatolia , so what was first the Chicken or egg ?

@ercanbanka537719 күн бұрын
It's a sign of irresponsibility , people buy pets and after getting bored they kick them out , or when they have babies i mean lot's of babies , Turkey is very conservative , yes People like Animals this is why they are not Killing them and they breed like in wildlife , but most People consider Animals as dirty .

yeah you are such great People you Armenians , Bulgarians , greeks , georgians , albanians , Serbians , tatars, cerkes and all the others i forgot to mention, combine all these countries it's not one Turkey when it comes to Finance or Military , you people didn't create us , Turkey/"Ottomans" made you , you just renamed yourselves and changed the faith , by the way the Club of Galatasaray was founded by the French . This is why Irronically we sometimes call them French offspring . I mean according to your own claims Bulgaria was "Occupied" for 500 years by the "Ottomans" , so you telling me you were such important people that with all your power you helped to conquer and colonize your own people and land ? Give me a break .

Thank you for mentioning the Armenian architects, the Balyans. They in fact designed the Dolmabahce, the Beylerbeyi, and the Ortakoy mosque. Armenian influence on the landscape and culture of Istanbul and Turkey as a whole is significant. The dome of the Haghia Sophia was restored by an Armenian architect after an earthquake. Taksim Square used to be owned by an Armenian family. The Blue Mosque was designed by a pupil of the architect Sinan - Sinan was an Armenian. The Suleymaniye Mosque and the Rustam Pasha Mosque were designed by Sinan himself. The modern Turkish alphabet was created by an Armenian. And Orhan Pamuk, whom you have mentioned, talked about the Armenian Genocide and was persecuted for mentioning it. The Armenian presence is significant.

Bullshit significant , this is the dark part of History , they worked for foreigners they had not the capability to do so by themselves , they pretended to be muslims and they still do , the Money and the Work is not Armenian , we will clean up this ignorant mess one day , you think you can come to our nation and lie to us , and then one day you can speak like you do, who the fuck are you foreigners , without Istanbul you armenians would be nothing , it's not You who made istanbul , Istanbul made you to something .
