As an ISTP I’ve learnt to keep my opinion to myself. Like, I don’t say that red is red. If I have to, then I say it jokingly not to offend a person. But I still don’t understand how people who say that red is green, think that they are telling the truth. In my thinking they are liars. Social truth or not, it’s still a lie.

I learned to stay quiet also. Most of the time at least. Just because we know something is right doesn’t mean others can see it or want to hear it. If you are correct they are mad at you because they are wrong. If you were not correct because you were unable to see something from a different perspective then you are an irritating ignoramus know it all. 🤷‍♀️

I'm in a low-key relationship with an ISTP (because of course low-key, right?), and I think that part of what enables their brilliance is that they don't get enmeshed in other people. Being an expert requires focus and dedication, which is not often compatible with making room for other people and their issues. At first, this characteristic did seem a bit gruff or cold to me, but I understand it now. He's not cold...he's an ISTP. 😍

As an ISTP female, I just fully absorbed what you said because it was full of truth. I'm a med student, I know that I am most satisfied with my life when I'm actually studying and working and interact with people with similar interests. Honestly, I would prefer to surround myself with people who only would like to talk about medicine ... But that's not the case with almost everyone around me. I don't know how people can be so socially active and still perform well in studies. For me,it's either one. Well, not really. Cause if I try to be socially active without honing my skills, I'll fall down a rut. Which I'm currently at. I'm failing miserable. The thing is, I know at the back of my mind, if I study and just focus there, things will just kind of fall into place. But to bring myself out there again, it's gonna take some practice again.

@@piyushwalter9755 This video is a good starting point on understanding her. Firstly, manage expectations. Don’t expect her to be the “typical female” but acknowledge her when she does the TiSe things. Make it known that you see and value her for those things. She will show she cares in some small ways, by always being there for you, making sure you have all the things you need, but it will not be over the top. She will problem solve for you, that is how she shows she cares. For example, you run out of toilet paper and she gets you some, your car is out of gas so she makes sure it’s filled. She saw your favorite snack on sale and got it for you, she will organize the kitchen to make it easier for you to get what you need. She will quietly support you while needing space to do her own thing. Encourage her to do the things that aren’t “typically female”, like learning how to diy things around the house, car, or sports. She’s not trying to be a man, she’s trying to problem solve.

ENFJ here ,don't ask me why ,just sheer curiosity and fascination with your type since I heard you guys have all my cognitive functions stack but in reverse ,so my weaknesses are your strengths and vis versa , so about your miserable social life you really don't have to feel bad about ,I mean my type is supposed to be a social king so yes sticking conversations and understanding humans as the social animal they are comes easy to me ,still I got one best friend in my social circle and that's about it , so yeah social life is way overrated , as long as you aren't feeling alone and that you have your own social support system that lifts you up when you are down ,just one family member or a close friend who genuinely cares is more then enough, paradoxically and interestingly enough you seem fully confident in you being an excellent med student which is the one thing that's killing me , I always feel like I am never doing enough which is true , doubting if I really have the right to be out here cosplaying a medical professional risking people's lifes and health while I am on it , add to that the screwed up health system in my side of the planet, swell ,overall your comment specifically opened my eyes about how much of opposites we are but not one doesn't mean the other ,more like one of us holds one half of the complete picture, I really can't wait to meet a real life istp and I hope they don't avoid me like a pleague

Thanks guys this was really useful. I found out I'm a female ISTP and this helped me figure out so much - about myself and about some of the situations I've gotten myself into at work and at home recently. I used to study at an all girls' school and I can definitely relate to the so called "social truths" which I have learnt to play along, but sometimes I am accused of being inauthentic. It was a real struggle. Since then, I've studied and worked in male dominated field (engineering) which I feel so much more comfortable in. The "negativity thermostat" idea that you guys suggested is a great idea. I'm definitely going to try to apply that in my interactions with others.

this was seriously helpful for me as an istp to understand myself. i’ve been feeling like “yay i finally fit in!” but i had become so negative towards people and in my thinking that it didn’t feel like i was really myself. and i realized that it’s because i’m currently in that gap of teenager to adult since i just graduated, during this pandemic when pretty much everything is already uncertain, so it seems like everything is spiraling out of control. but since it’s sort of been laid out for me as to why i’ve been so anxious and negative, i feel like something is finally in my control and that i’ll be okay. and what was said about being an istp woman, i’ve always felt like i was never a real woman because of the social construct of what a woman should be. but this reminded me that i’m not supposed to fit in, and that it’s exhausting to try. so thank you for this, i think i’ll be able to take better care of myself.

Wow. Every word you said I can relate to. Everything and I'm a boy and a teenager. I realize that I was negative towards my friends after they told me so, then a person made a video about me to help me and after that video, I felt ok. I realized that not everything is in my control and I need to stop thinking about the future. I still think that I will never meet a woman becasue of my dark skin color and my pimples. I think that men have it hard and women nowadays just want to be on their own.

14:00 I’d like to add that the focus you mention is not only applied in physical careers such as athletes, surgeons etc. but also applies to the non-tangible, I am an ISTP and work in Finance, I don’t have to use my body to do my job, Finance has practical applications in the theoretical and real world sense. Having to solve problems which have a concrete impact is what I really enjoy about my job. Whilst also using my analytical skills etc. my main point is that you can also find ISTP’s in many areas of life that reach the top. If you are an ISTP and see many people talking about careers or things that involve physical interaction, encouraging that that will be your best shot, don’t feel discouraged. Pursue what truly makes you feel alive. Whether that be physics, finance, architecture or gardening, your type does not define who you are or what you will be. It’s a skill set. I would add a lot more but I don’t want it to be too long. :) enjoy ur day.

As an introverted ISTP I've also learned to just not tell the truth unless I'm directly asked. Like I don't see the point of going out of my way to point out what is obviously red but if somebody asks me to go along with acknowledging the emperor's new clothes I'd have to examine the social exercise to see if it's worth the hassle of lying against my conscience to spare myself drama or just play along and try not to break social cohesion. Namely I do not give in or play the political correctness game, but I don't purposely go out looking for fights over it either - just don't ask my opinion if you can't take a disagreement. I digress but over the years I've learned to give no shits about the feelings of others, and I honestly became less stressed, happier, and feel more free to be who I am as an individual and just own up to it. But I'm not immune to the emotions of my wife, close friends, family, and inner circle for I am still vulnerable to a degree in that regard. I guess another area that you guys should have talked about that I would like more information on is how ISTPs would benefit from learning how to properly communicate. Because we speak factually and logically, the majority of the world speak in terms of emotions and complex abstracts that are often indirect, and within direct conflict of how we process interactions. I find it very difficult to ascertain the touchy-feely types of people who seemingly want to vent out frustrations with no desire for a solution. Took me a while to understand that all they want is to be listened to.

Lol THIS so accurate how my mentality works. Perfect example: A friend once said to me, "why do you always have to say the truth? It's not exactly like we aren't aware." At that moment I said to myself, "well why do you think I care (to withhold)?" But I cared enough about that friend so I just kept quiet to that remark. Here's the thing, philosophically speaking, true knowing means putting it into action. I know it cannot be applied to all situations but that is the problem with most people. P.S. I am no longer friends with that specific person in my example. It's because I blatantly challenged her when she tried to mess in somebody else's relationship, called her a third wheel and she couldn't even deal with that term lol. That's when I know I lost total respect of her, not more so of morals than her utter incapability to be honest. Imagine my disgust fellow ISTPs. Other types probably won't get it but it's fine.

ISTP as well, and I totally get your disgust. I have strong opinions on a lot of things that actually matter to me, but I wouldn't consider myself judgemental at all. You can do whatever you want on your own accord, with the limit being theft, rape, murder, etc. I am very open minded. Just don't fucking lie or try your sociopath shit on me. If you do, I'll either abandon you or call you out when I've had enough, depending on how well I know you and how much I actually care. If I don't care I'll just abandon you, and you won't even get the pleasure of knowing why.

Some career advice for an ISTP in I.T. - I’m in I.T. and have been working in application support for the past 8 years, with another 10 years behind that in Infrastructure support. These jobs have been a good fit for my strengths as an ISTP. However, a word of caution regarding Application Support- you often don’t get the whole instruction manual. What I mean is that, the only people with ultimate knowledge of the system are developers - and even then their scope of knowledge is limited in scope to one part of the product. This results in that the whole truth will be elusive and hidden and I think this is going to be frustrating for an ISTP. There is no time to dig deep into the core of the “Why?” on software bugs, as there are always new support requests coming in. As long as the problem is fixed we move on. From the position of the employer it is not important that everyone in the support chain understands why - only that someone does and that the problem is fixed or will be fixed. So I think a career in application support can be a bit frustrating or unfulfilling for an ISTP if there is insufficient knowledge sharing an/or no career path to becoming a developer. In comparison, system/infrastructure design or management is probably better suited for ISTPs I think because things like networks, storage devices, etc. are built on clear rules and there is documentation to explain those rules. This can be quite fulfilling for an ISTP because the “truth” is available. More so though because the system is built on rules you can test it in a lab, break it, and figure out why it broke. You could say the same for an application, as it is built on rules as well, but the road to get to the truth is too long. Also there is a risk of being stuck as a “support engineer” for too long. There will always be a demand from a company for customer facing support engineers - but as an ISTP you know that’s not ultimately what you need - you need to know the inner workings of the system so it can be mastered. The first few years will be fine and fulfilling, but if the company does not have a clear career path to development you should get out and learn a new skill somewhere else or get into systems/infrastructure management where you can master the system. Don’t get into a “golden handcuffs” scenario where you are paid well for your “mastery” in a skill - when in reality you know a lot but true mastery is perpetually behind a black curtain and you become bored. Simultaneously not knowing and having complete access to get the knowledge is when work is fresh and exciting for an ISTP. You know what you need as an ISTP - don’t let your company squeeze you until you are dry.

Any other ISTPs lose focus on the video and spend time picking out the gears in the photo above that will have their teeth stripped off if they were to ever go into motion? I thought so. As ISTPs age, we open up, become less fixated on mastery, and become much more fun. Able to externalize controlled emotion and fully appreciate the people around us.

Thank you for this because it really helps to know that I'm not, "the crazy person in a sea of what everyone else does", who demands truth & why I'm like that! I hate lying and liars. I hate playing people's games or being expected to do that! I am old enough to know that no one, absolutely no one, is worth losing my integrity for or compromising truth for, and I refuse to do so. I'm not popular because I call white white and black black! I warn people and they begin by saying that they say what they mean and mean what they say & that they're honest. Then, as time goes by, they show me who they are and I don't waste my time or they feel convicted being around me and they do things that they know I will not tolerate. Either way, it is what it is and my friends are a very selected few. I love solitude so I don't need anyone so badly that I tolerate drama, games or fake people. I'm an ISTP woman and have only understood my personality type for the last year or so. Before that, I struggled my whole life trying to understand, (I still do but I know the why about me now), & have several broken relationships behind me, as well. I wish I had known about my type much earlier in my life because I believe that I would have made informed decisions instead of ignorant decisions!. I felt as if you were describing me to the letter! It's better & much more fun lol at myself, as I do now, because I know my brain is wired this way!😂😂💪💪😎😎 Thank you again!

My friend's and family all say and agree on one thing and that's "if you want the truth just go ask that guy" (Me). The problem is with most people including people close to us think that we ISTP's tell it like it is with others but not with ourselves and that's not the case at all. I've literally thrown myself under the bus first in order to tell the truth with other's but it doesn't matter cause people will always feel bad when they hear the truth no matter how it's delivered. (TRUTH HURTS) Now I just live with the fact that there's a person in this world for every situation or purpose and I choose how I want to contribute. I never had a problem hearing the truth from others about myself no matter how bad because at the end of the day all I really care about is getting it right and not being right and I believe most ISTP's deep down in their thoughts will probably agree.

I love your videos, such quality information. I relate to all of it. Thank you! When you said ISTPs can do anything, I believe it; we just have to want it and we can achieve it. Will you please do a video on how ISTPs (and the other types) develop and show up to the world in conjunction with each enneagram type (and wing)?

Thank you so much for this, and the tips really will help me gage everything. I’ve definitely been pulled into games and lost my love of simple honesty, it started happening around some poor decisions and falling for someone. I didn’t want to loose love but lost myself instead. Pretty unhealthy, it’s a relief getting back into reality and I’m learning how to fly helicopters!! Thank you again for the videos, would love more istp ones💜👌

Finally someone who neuances the concept of truth, which is so popular in typology and personal development communities. Truth to you is not truth to me. My truth is different to your truth. People throw around the term “People pleaser” as a negative on anyone who acts with compassion, as if it’s not possible to do without being fake or people pleasing. I am never as authentic and truthful as when I interact with people compassionately. That’s my truth. And my experience with an ISTP in a relationship was that this “speaking the truth” thing was a very one-sided thing. He would say anything that felt true to him in a certain moment, without any thought about how it would affect me or the relationship or anyone really. And then he would say “ I am just honest”, “this is just who I am”, or “do you want me to not be honest?”. It’s a very controlling way of communicating. He would say something that I would feel was a real threat to our relationship and to me. When I had a panic attack later and try explaining him why, he went into defence about his need for honesty. So I showed him how it works, and told him a truth of mine. And I said: “this is something that I wouldn’t normally say, because I know it’s not fair, and it’s not helpful to say. It’s just going to damage our relationship and make things hard on you. But now I’m telling you this, to show you how always telling our “truth” about how we feel, has consequences”. He got really mad and told me what I was saying was a threat to him. And it was not ok. I said “that’s why it shouldn’t be said. It is how I feel, and it’s what I fear will happen, and so it is my truth and it’s honesty. But it’s also something that I should not tell you, because it’s damaging. It’s something I should keep to myself, for my integrity, and then I should be able to just deal with it as good as I can if this situation that I fear will ever happen”. Only a year later when I repeated this story did he realise how it was the same thing he did. And how he was only seeing his own perspective and only accepting his own truth and his own need for radical honesty. I wish other people like these podcasters would talk about these things so that people can learn how to understand things in new ways.

Get out of my head and into my body... i just realized that this is the same advice I got studying about enneagram 4. And it has been SO helpful for me in keeping me in a healthier state. So Interesting tying the two together. My friend, who I think is an ISFP, said the same thing, that playing sports helps his mind.

wow this very accurate.. especially when you're talking about the lying part. lying to be respectful never made sense to me as a kid.. even socially.. and I always have to stick out if I for some reason have to wear uniforms.. not bc i need attention.. but bc of my underlying hatred for conformity in any regard. I always have brightly colored hair bc I hate my ugly gray uniform.

I wouldn't go along with telling 'social truths'. I think either something's true or not. I mean...I would rather pull someone aside and tell them outright what I think and why (like in the case of the dress not looking good on somebody). Then trust them to deal with it, unless they're not secure hearing such things, which is not problem at all. I mean....anyway cool stuff guys!

Holy crap, your discussions and your assessments are pinpoint accurate. Hiding from reality, path of least resistance, accurate specific real world feedback...but nope we are aware and we are already in the endgame. The problem with dealing with our extroverted feelings with the interactions of the world is anger management. The stress and problems facing with this confrontation (extroverted intuition) comes from within him/herself unwillingly heightening their conscience and subconsciousness of reality constantly getting a migraine. Also trying to tell oneself to stfu and stay calm dealing with the world. That's why they are more focused on practical skills of aggression, thrill, i.e. destressing. Now you know the real secret. Thank me later.

Now I give you a new study topic. Topic of debate: Are emotional behavior and MBTI personality types inter-related and will determine the true MBTI classifications? Reason of asking, I used to be a hardcore mofo ISTP primed to alcoholism, thrill and self destruction with abundant of psychological and physiological ideals buttstock in my brain, but apparently I feel that it is gone into ignorance and I have shapeshifted into a different kind of or a less angry fake permutation of an ISTP or something else, and I know most of you ISTPs feel the same way.

I'm an infj married to an istp. He's the more social one 😂 because I get flustered talking to people because I find it hard to chat shit, then feel stupid, but he's so charismatic that people just talk to him, but he definitely can't stand people lol. One thing is that our relationship has never been low key, I've found that, he is so confident in his choices that if he makes his mind up then he never changes it, so lucky for me the day he saw me he decided he would marry me - I had no choice really 😂

As an ISTP myself, I am thrilled about the sequence or order that you did all the sixteen MBPTs: You saved the best personality type for last. And as an ISTP, as a fiercely individualistic perspective that I have, I can say that I can not agree nor disagree with everything you said about our types. I am covered in tattoos from head to toe, wear studded leather jackets, and have a Mohawk style haircut. I listen to loud gangsta rap, hard core punk, and heavy metal music, and I have been kicked out of many motorcycle gangs, crime families, and drug cartels for being "too tough." I've even been kicked out of prison for being too dangerous. In prison I considered it a reward to be placed in solary confiment for months and months, and I was saddened when my holiday in solitary came to a close, and I had to interact with people again, in the general prison population. The FBI, CIA, and NSA are afraid of me, as I have eluded their efforts to capture me for years. I have had stints as professional wrestler, and MMA fighter, and have black belts in five different styles of martial arts. I have even been in movies and off off Broadway productions performing many stunts and action scenes as a stunt double. I live happily live in an isolated log cabin in the woods on my own in an undisclosed location in placed called the "Artisan National Forest" where I personally kill deer and bear for protien with cross bows and arrows, traps, and fishing rods that I have personally crafted by hand, and eat vegetables from my garden outside my log cabin that I made from felled trees in the forest. Have a fantasic day. An Happy Easter (if that's your thing).

@@antondeannova7016 Idk man just accept it, but one thing to know is that ISTPs are naturally sensor intuitive hybrids. Even myself is struggling between P or J but I can relate to ISTP more and I find the tips useful. I don't know for you but just use this personality test as a tool to know yourself and explore your functions not a base to fit one of the stereotypes. Don't get confused if you're a lil intuitive as an ISTP it's normal, but if you think you're completely intuitive then you are an INTP or just, look at some memes or videos and see where you can relate.
