My grandpa was an ISTP He played a mayor role in raising me and my brothers. One thing I always remember is the sense of adventure we felt whenever we were with him. He would just show up at our house, put us in the back of his truck, and off we went 😂 he never told us where we were going and we didn't care, we knew it would be awesome He always had one of those pocket knives that have like a thousand different tools that pulled out of it. It was mesmerizing watching him fix almost anything with that pocket knife Whenever there was a family gathering, he would often be sitting in a corner of a room quietly analyzing everything and everyone with a ponderous look on his face. I loved watching him do that Often, when he caught me looking at him, he would call me over, sat me on his lap, and continued analyzing everything I thought he looked so cool So I tried to see what he was seeing, but of course, being a child, I couldn't even imagine the conclusions he was arriving to watching everyone He loved watching NatGeo documentaries, and I loved learning so many new things while we watched them together He was awesome... Although I recently learned that apparently, he was quite intimidating to a lot of people, and I don't know why I thought that to be hilarious 😅 So yeah, I can personally say ISTPs are freaking amazing I'd say you were spot-on 👌

@@bebelmuniz Thank you, and I'm sorry to hear to hear about that. The thing is, we had very young and inexperienced parents, my brothers and I While he himself (my grandpa) had a very rough and difficult childhood So, I don't know if seeing that inspired him to "step up to the plate" and practically raise us He was indeed a man of very few words, and he could be very stoic most of the time It was through actions that he showed his love more than anything else He did have a playful and, dare I say, "goofy" (for him) side he would show when it was just him and us But it was in the way his gaze softened when he looked at us Or when he went out of his way to get something he knew, we really wanted Or just simply make time to spend with us. We spent hours looking at the night sky with a telescope he had, and again, he didn't say much, but he would show us. He made it clear to us that he wanted to keep us safe and happy even if he didn't actually say it I can say my grandpa was, in many ways, a refuge for me and my brothers I'm sorry you don't feel you had a good relationship with your grandpa Sometimes, it hurts when people don't show us love the way we want it, but maybe that doesn't necessarily mean it's not there... But again, maybe it was the circumstances that made things end up the way they did in my case

Me too! As an ENFP, I constantly struggle to stay in the present moment. My mind is always wandering, daydreaming or creating new ideias. I envy the hability that ISTPs have to focus on what is going on around them in that exac moment. Oh yeah, but that's the problem sometimes yk. You figure stuff out by doing it. And everything you think about must be actually done before you can think about it again. When stuff gets too complex or too big we can't stay in the thinking and must transition. Yet when I'm playing chess or something ideally I'd want to keep on thinking about it...which I can't, I won't get a grasp about how it works that way. So we definitely see it as a limitation for the part of us that also wants to float around within ourselves to understand something more.

As a ISTP i think one our most overlooked better qualities that is often exemplified in fictional characters is our protective nature of the weak and innocent. Whether its James Bond, Darrel from walking dead, or even the Hound with the Stark girls in Game of Thrones. There's something deep within us that gets enraged when we feel like the weak or innocent are being taken advantage of, while at the same time, we are capable of extreme violence to bad people. It's a strange dynamic, to say the least.

I had an ISTP boyfriend who is a great person, but our affair ended because he was so quiet and emotionally independent, that his "coldness" created a wall between us that made it impossible for us to truly connect. I value deep conections, and they can be hard to achieve when you're dating an ISTP. 😢 I believe there's a necessary level of emotional independence that every relationship should have, but when one of the partners is too independent, the other feels kinda abandoned and lonely. I guess that's the only thing about ISTPs that make me frustrated
@bakkudeku
@bakkudeku 7 ай бұрын
Mm, I'm sorry to hear it didn't work out for you guys, as an ISTP it can be very hard to express feelings when you're still an immature ISTP, whereas usually for the vast majority of people (FJ types), feelings are easier to express and come naturally, for TPs it's as hard as it gets and takes conscious effort to first understand our own feelings, make them "make sense" in an intellectual way (there's no going around it, unfortunately, it has to be logical and rational, or we suppress it as nonsense, that's how we're wired to do with everything, that includes "feelings, emotions, sentimentality" etc). We IxTPs both (ISTP/INTP) have Fe-inferior, it's hard for us to deal with our own feelings, never mind relate to the feelings of others. Take it this way: ideas are "too complex and abstract" for most people, yeah? Well, for us it's the same towards feelings, they "tend to always be too illogical, irrational, dangerous even", we're afraid of emotions because we hold extreme distrust of emotions as a means to anything, we view emotions as dangerous because they tend to lead to the extremes of irrational behavior and all kinds of atrocities committed in the name of "religious dogma, political ideology, tradition and laws" etc, all those things miserably fail logically and turn the concrete reality into a living hell we abhor, so we project all that background onto the entire sphere of "emotions, feelings, sentimentality" altogether. That's "The Wall" of Westeros made out of ice and stone for us to break, and the way to break it, at least my way to break it, is by not generalising "everyone else in the entire world and society" as applicable to the "one particular person that cares about us, whom we also care about, and share some special bond and connection", those two are UNIVERSES apart and shouldn't ever be mixed, that was something INCREDIBLY HARD for me to learn, but I learned that if I do care about someone in particular, then the general rules change by the same amount of "how particular" is my relationship with that person, THEN I consider everything, their individuality, personality, mentality, worldview, ideas, and obviously their emotions, feelings and sentimentality that WE BOTH SHARE MUTUALLY toward each other, because IxTPs are mutual in everything, "the good, the bad, the ugly" and all the rest of it.

6. The lack of having the ability to get into a flow state the majority of the time since i was in my teens is what drives me mad. I have gotten there, but people and events have interrupted me so often that even when I am alone I can't do it most of the time because I am waiting for the interruption. And, it always comes. But, yes, I used to do it quite easily and I really, really need it. 10. I have mentioned to people several times this small door that I made for this area that was open between rooms, which area passed under the stairs. It was a nice architectural detail but there were cats involved and they would go ifrom one room to the other, which was a bedroom, and pee all over that person's bed. That person was me. So, Dad gave me a saw and a chunk of fplywood and told me to make a door. No instructions, measurements, sand paper, or anything else. Just a slightly sharpened saw and some bad wood. Yet, I made a door that fit on it, found a handle and hinges for it, plus some paint that matched the wall color (even though the wall had been painted back in the 1960s by another family altogether) and managed to make a door that fit exactly, looked good and stayed closed without a latch or anything to make it do so, even when cats tried to paw it open on one side or push against it on the other. Even the mid-sized dogs couldn't push it open. So, when people ask me "What makes you think you could ..." about my desires to add storage to a space or etc., I mention the door and they remain unimpressed or say "Dad built that." Dad did not build that and it is a masterful door considering a tape measure was never used, especially.

17. Yes. Also, just so you know I erased some very good writing to start over and be more polite and less negative in general tone. So ... When I was a kid, people would invite us on hikes. "To where?" No place. Just down a trail or something, for the sake of looping or turning around to go back to the car. "For what reason?" To do it. No. We would go on excessively long walks, sometimes down trails, up mountains, etc. "To where?" Usually to a specific place- mossy rock, the bridge, the nearest town, down to the neighbors. "For what reason?" To gain privacy and be able to complain about our parents without getting in trouble, to get out of work because we had already done our share and some other sibling(s) hadn't done theirs, to deliver a message, to go visit friends. Without a goal, there was no walk. Though, sometimes the goal was not a destination or a purpose to reach for the completion of, but was to leave something behind, like nagging, abuse or illegal forced child labor of an intense and unfair nature. We had many good walks. I can't go to the gym because I find it purposeless. So, I bought kettlebells, as they help one become more functional. Gym exercises, unless the gym has kettlebells, maces, clubs, sand bags and the like, do not make you more actually functional unless you are very weak to start with. I am not. I am still not using the kettlebells, yet, because I have yet to achieve a state of health where I need that sort of functionality and there is no one around to use them with me to make it about sociability.

Also, 17: I make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that enrage some people. They like to put a full spread of peanut butter, corner to corner, then cover it evenly with jelly in the same manner so that each bite is exactly the same. And, I want them to leave my planet! Not so much for them doing it, but, they want to make me do it and they will complain if I do not- even if I am not maing the sandwich for them!!!! Gahahahahah!!!! I like to use enough peanut butter to get a good spread over most of the bread, with varying thicknesses in places and some spots left free, then put the jelly on in a decidedly lesser amount and in an even more free form manner, so that I get a variety of taste sensation at less cost.

Arthur Morgan (one of the most Welsh names ever?) of Red Dead Redemption 2 is an excellent example of an ISTP...well until the end when, I assume, the game writers decided he needed to repent his two decade long career of murder and robbery so players wouldn't feel bad about liking him.

I've been struggling to determine between ENTJ and ISTP. I know it seems like there should be a massive, obvious difference between the two but so much of both of them applies to me. I adapt quickly and easily to changes in circumstance, but I also push forward towards an overarching objective. I'm very introverted, but I don't have any trouble talking to people or taking charge of a situation when I have to. What I've been using as the deciding factor has been my lack of self-awareness and personal identity, which fits ENTJs inferior Fi extremely well.

I think you decided amazingly if that was your logic to solving what type you are. I'm an ISTP and that sense of self Awareness is what ultimately guides me everywhere I go.

It would help to continue to look at where the function stacking lies sent you found that look at the inferior function was a telltale sign of your personality type. I did not see you type the difference of whether you related to Te or Ti more heavily, as ENTJ & ISTP thinking dominant which you did touch on the thinking aspect, but not the introversion/extraversion. The 8th function could also be telltale again, like how you said the inferior function was. If this doesn't help, you can see whether your friend circle is more compatible with an ISTP or ENTJ. For example, an ENTJ is said to be compatible very much with INTP due to that their preferences are thinking, intuition, sensing, then feeling. Except that the introversion and extraversion is opposite to each other. What I'm saying is to check whether you talk to more of INTPs + other compatible types, or ESTJs who are more compatible with ISTPs than ENTJs are. I'm an INFJ here.

@@nicoleni7192 I'm pretty sure I have Fe demon, based on how I interact with people who aren't part of my "inner circle", and Si trickster also fits, my worst memories popping up randomly, not realizing I'm thirsty or hungry until my mouth is dry and stomach is eating itself. I guess the issue I'm running into is: If I'm Te-dominant, I don't have much to show for it, but then again I spend most of my time thinking about what to do next, but not in a daydreamy way, I always feel very focused and alert.

From what I found out, MBTI Introversion/Extroversion is different from the social term of it. When you’re analyzing something, do you say it out loud or think it in your head? My husband is an INTP, and when he goes silent, I know that he’s thinking about something.

I am trying to respond to norseman-ns5tq but it gets tagged to the next comment. One quality is that ISTPs are known to be fiercely egalitarian which could explain a protective attitude towards those that are downtrodden. I feel this very much, very often.

I think this can be explained with the existence of loops. Think of loops as "getting stuck in your mind", not being willing/able to externalize (for introverts). Life is rarely balanced, so it is normal to have our minds be out of internal-external balance from time to time. The danger is when this state persists over a longer period of time.
@nemo_xs3200

Probably because getting it done was never part of the plan/fun yk. I might think that in the beginning, till I understand how it actually works and stop there, since it will be more efficient to do something else instead with my time than to reach greater heights in whatever I’m doing rn.

I still don't get why everyone thinks James Bond or Indiana Jones as an ISTP. They are obviously ESTP. Jones and Bond ain't stoic or craftsmen. But when ISTP's are stoic, from where they got their impulsivness or unpedictability??? Then it's said, they are some how a tactician. That's a lot of contradictions at once, if you ask me. - ENTP

@@bebelmuniz ISTPs are selfreflected and have a deep understanding of how to interact with technical skillsets to solve social problems. They are kind persons who interact with a precise understanding of how something will technically work out to persuade the human nature. James Bond is quite the opposite. He has a instinctive behaviour wich is a result of the intuitivness in knowing the human nature and solves social problems caused by using technology he hasn't mastered. That's a huge difference. For ESTPs humans are the technology to solve technical needs. For ISTPs gadgets are the technology to solve human needs.

Now for the dark side of -ISTP’s self absorbed greedy nature. The traits you describe seem beneficial but I have seen people of this type acting them out and they don’t translate well in reality. Often the piercing intellect is used to fluff their ego and the pattern and tool learning abilities are used to malignantly manipulate others. Aloofness can be arrogance and entitlement. I have yet to meet an ISTP that is reasonably responsible, due to their need for thrill seeking. Their “what is “ mentality is often uncreative and small, lacking the ability see “what can be”. Basically, they are self absorbed, egotistical, thrill seeking no matter the danger, uncreative, manipulative, copy cats. No thank you! INTJ’s stop them from trying to bulldoze less intellectual and compassionate types. Yep, INTJ’s have more compassion than ISTP. It comes from INTJ’s wanting to make the world better and seeing how ISTP don’t care about the world at large or small, they are too self absorbed. Sorry if you’re an ISTP but with regards to others you need to brush up on self examination and relationship building skills.

Maybe a damaged or immature ISTP. The growth of Extroverted feeling will largely be responsible for how they treat others, and since it is a demon function, an ISTP who puts all their eggs in introverted thinking can definitely be a sociopath. Speaking for myself, my highest value is to be useful and help the tribe

I'm ISTP and those ego things and lack of care for what's happening in the world doesn't apply to me. Also, for 60 years I've been too giving 😂 and recently pulled back on it because I was traumatized by the actions of an extremely toxic ENFJ- yes, the wonderful and perfect ENFJ 😂 So your blanket statement doesn't apply to us all, just like my current dislike for ENFJ is based on one full on experience.

You couldn't give me an ISTP for a partner -- and perhaps not even a friend, not a close one anyway. The guy I knew had all of these attributes -- in the worst sort of way -- and had been married and divorced four times (all the women left him). I'm an INFJ and not only was he boring, but he almos always hurt my feelings. Moreover, he was a cold, uncaring father to his son and a cruel pet owner -- would shine a flashlight in his old dog's eyes and drag him across the kitchen floor by his tail, among other things. Thank God we were never lovers or even close to it!

I think insinuating everyone who falls under this personality type as abusive assholes because you knew one guy who was, is quite a toxic and unhealthy mindset. You can’t judge millions of people on the actions of one guy who needed serious help and therapy (and probably jail time) and never got it. That’s a horrible way to look at life and people, not to mention how unfair it is, because you’re automatically making the assumption that everyone else is the exact same. You’re demonizing strangers for something they never did, based off the actions of one very unhealthy man. Edited to fix typos*
