ISUZU MUX - CAR TO CARAVAN WIRING - DC CHARGER - ANDERSON PLUGS - TO OUR RED CENTRE CARAVAN

Thanks Sep. We have the same model MUX and the wiring on ours is pretty much the same. The only differences we have are, we don't have the battery charger wiring, we just rely on solar or the caravan park when on mains, and we run our fridge off the grey anderson and not via the 12 pin. So far it has worked fine for us.

I have seen videos where running a fridge through a 12 pin plug have caused the pins to arch. I think this happens when the pins are not making a good contact and with 20 amps running through them it doesn’t take like for arcing to start. An Anderson plug is probably the way to go. Our van had the fridge wired through the 12 pin plug when we picked it up so we left it that way. Cheers!

Hi Sep, One small thing that could happen with only having relays on the car is, the moment you turn the car on, even before you start the engine the fridge and the dc-dc charger are draining your battery. When the start battery gets a bit lazy you might be in a spot of trouble, I would recommend 2 VSR's instead of relays. Same thing only they work on battery voltage, this allows the start battery to do it's thing all on its own without the fridge and dc-dc charger robbing power for starting. Darryl S

I have found that a VSR doesn’t work with a smart alternator which is what the Isuzu has. They work best with a constant voltage alternator. The smart alternator in the Isuzu most of the time when on the highway sits on around 12.5 to 12.8 volts which is not high enough for the VSR to activate and allow current flow to the Anderson plug or 12 pin plug. We originally had them installed but removed them for this reason. Thanks for your suggestion also I always carry a jump pack in the car. Cheers!

Ok ,That makes sense, all this so-called smart stuff is not really smart, it's there to breakdown faster, like the stopping and starting of the engine at the lights, wait for when the starter motors break down. Also why a lot of people buy the likes of GWM and other brands because some just don't have all the crap on them. Anyway happy caravaning.

@@darrylshelford2674 I asked Isuzu if they can disable the smart system but they said they cannot but I could remove the electrical wire connected to the negative side of the battery which will disable the smart system making the alternator produce a constant 14.2 volts but a warning light will appear on the dash that cannot be removed. So I am stuck with it. Appreciate your thoughts. Cheers!

Can I plug my Anderson plug into my second battery, which is deep cycle?

It’s difficult for me to answer your question with limited information but a second battery in a car is general used to power up a portable fridge, lights or something of that nature. If you are asking if you can plug an Anderson plug from your caravan into a second battery located in your car, best if you refer to an auto electrician who will be able to advise you regarding your wiring and other components that my be required.
