To quickly explain the whole "Men of Iron, Men of Stone, Men of Gold" thing, what we can tell is that we know what the men of iron were, the squats were most likely the men of stone, a la genetically tailored deep space workers, and the men of gold were the Home Superior, aka the Perpetuals, aka the pretentious immortal pricks. But, there is a lot of lore that can go into a whole episode alone, especially when you go into the men of gold and how that directly ties to a lot of Big E and what he does/has done.

Luetin says that the Men of Stone were half human and half machine, the Men of Iron were well... the Men of iron, and the Men of Gold were the normal humans.

There is no actual substantive lore to the men of iron/stone/gold. It is almost all home-brewed lore based on 1-2 pages of writing. The only "confirmed" (as much as that exists in 40k) are the men of iron.

Considering that we have at least one old world AI stating that it was happy to serve humanity (and that one Colony Ship AI that loved its colonists), I'm of the theory that Chaos was the one to cause them to turn against us and the Men of Iron/Gold fought 'chaos AI' as well, and it became an insane melee with humanity in the middle.

@@crim1188 Yeah, except that "peak Eldar" at the brink of the birth of Slaanesh, which corresponds a few centuries/millenia with the War with the men of Iron were more interested in murderboning then preserving their species. What would have done it would have been an isolated element, like a proto-Farseer. Thinking Eldar were united or ever in a real state to have anything to do that was blow, an elaborate murder, torture session or another carnal act is like overestimating, or in your case, underestimating the Dark Age of Humanity. These guys had Terminator armor for WORK. Knights for forestry work and those are the lesser machines of much more complex mechanism. Sure it wasn't war in heaven level, but the Krok were much more dangerous than the Eldar in that time anyway.

There's hints in the lore that during the Cybernetic Revolt, some AI sided with humanity. After it was over, all AI was either smashed, lobotomized, or sealed away. There's a possibility that Machine Spirits might be lobotomized AI or even possibly lower grade Simulated Intelligence. In on of the book, and Ark Mechanicus was in a fight with the Aeldari and was losing. In the heart of the ark Mechanicus there was an ancient slumbering AI that woke up and was very grumpy at the space elves. Sudden;y weapons and systems that nobody even knew were there started turning on, and the ark Mechanicus fired a miniature black hole at the cosmic knife-ears' ship to anchor it in place, and then unleashed a massive broadside of weaponized time at the interstellar Keblers' ship that caused all of its matter to experience catastrophic temporal paradoxes, which in turn caused the universe to violently correct the temporal paradox by explosive deleting the space Santa's helpers' ship from existence. It's been theorized by fans that every ark Mechanicus could have an ancient AI slumbering in it. What do you think that would do to the minds of the techno-fetishists of Mars?

36:58 it's a combination of the atmosphere, magnetosphere, and gravity. The atmosphere shields the surface from radiation (photons mostly). The atoms absorb dangerous stuff, like the ozone layer for example. The magnetosphere and the gravity hold the atmosphere there. The magnetosphere deflects charged particles with mass (ions). Yes, the ions are dangerous but if they hit the atmosphere they blow it away, hence we call the ions coming from the sun the solar wind. Gravity allows the planet to hold onto the atmosphere harder, both protecting from the solar wind and gas particles from trying to leave on their own. Mars has such a small atmosphere right now because it's small AND has a week magnetosphere. Over the eons, the solar wind stripped the atmosphere away, and part of the terra forming puzzle it how do we a) give it a new atmosphere and b) protect it without gravity or a magnetosphere. Fun fact: an idea several years ago was to nuke Mars at it's poles that are currently covered in dry ice. This would rapidly throw immense volumes of has into the air to thicken the atmosphere. However, it also releases *fallout*, so no. Bad idea

I remember readign somewhere that the thing with the Age of Strife was the amount of problems all happening at the same time, or near it, liek it wasn't just the robot rebellion but also Slaanesh birth and the warp storms, if it was just 1 event or enough time passed between them they would have been able to handle it or recover, but they all hit all at once.

Roughly speaking, the increased cancer risk associated with flying 10,000km at 40,000 feet is about equivalent to smoking 1.4 cigarettes. For comparison, you accrue the same risk of death from collisions from flying 1,000 miles (about a 6th as far), or travelling 6 miles by motorcycle.

He kept a unit of the Prussian Army, the 6th Infantry Regiment, which had a requirement that you had to be 6'2 to join. For context, the king himself was 5'3, which was near the average height of the time. They were nicknamed the Potsdam Giants. It was so hard to recruit for the regiment that Friedrich Wilhelm had a small army of kidnappers that would travel across Europe looking for tall guys, and if they found a guy, even if he was just a random on the street, they would tie him up and take him back to Berlin. Other kings and dignitaries would gift Friedrich Wilhelm with tall soldiers during diplomatic meetings. And yes, he did indeed attempt to breed these men with tall women who were often themselves kidnapped. The king personally drilled the unit himself, and whenever he was sick or in one of his violent rages, the only thing that could make him feel better were the Giants practicing drill in his bedroom while he laid in bed and watched. This unit never saw combat during Friedrich Wilhelm's life due in large part to two facts: 1. Many of these men were tall because of defects like pituitary hyperplasia, meaning they were constantly getting sick and would have died on campaign long before they reached a battle, and 2. despite being the best drilled unit in the kingdom, they were extremely poorly disciplined due chiefly to the fact that most of them were only there because they had been press-ganged. Desertion and suicide attempts were insanely common in the 6th Regiment, and if they had ever tried to face a line of muskets for real they would have immediately broken. Fun fact, the tallest man to serve in the unit was an Irishman named James Kirkland, who was 7'1.
