@@CatherineLaSalle The book is even worse, and much much longer than both movies put together, the movies went soft when compared to the book. Also, you're doing part 2 next right?
@andrewlustfield607920 күн бұрын
You should definitely read the book. Why are these bullies homicidal? Pennywise feeds on and amplifies emotions like fear and anger. So being angry with someone can quickly turn into a blinding, murderous rage. Jealously can become sexual violence, etc. Plus, in the books, Henry and his friends were always pretty bad--Henry was pretty damned crazy. Patrick, however, was a true psychopath--torturing little animals before working up to people kind of psycho. One other thing to point out--there are a lot of kids in King's books. One of the things that King explores is that childhood and the kid world isn't all that safe. And that's true in a lot of his books. But he also explores the magic of a band of misfits who come together in just a perfect way--where otherwise ordinary folks do exceptional things.

@@brettgoucher8783 I won't argue that--though IT has a special place in my heart. I read it when it first came out in 1985, and it was my very first King novel. It was also the only book I actually threw across the room while reading it. So I think it will always rank number 1 with me. The Stand is brilliant though.

Pennywise is a tricky character, because It is this extra dimensional entity that’s existed before the beginning of time essentially in a different world, a different dimension. Some time in the past, he came to earth and began hibernating. When he awakened, he started feeding off humans, preferably children. Pennywise is one of the many shapes It takes to lure in and feed off the children.

It’s a masterpiece, really scary, but soooo much more than that, it’s a beautifully told, heartbreaking story of family drama, grief, and love. It’s about a family, with 5 kids, and it’s told in little bits, set “now”, when the kids are grown up and in their 20s/30s, and “then”, when they were 6 to 13-ish years old, and moved into Hill House. Something a lot of people who don't read Stephen King's books don't realize is that the horror aspect in his work is used as a device to show something much deeper. It is about abuse, The Shining is about addiction, Cujo is about a bad child dependent marriage, Pet Semetery is about grief... This is one of the only adaptions that really leaves that aspect in it and doesn't just turn it into a generic horror film.
