“Textbook” is the wrong way to describe F&B. What it actually is like is the ancient histories. Read Herodotus. Read Tacitus. Read Suetonius. Read Plutarch. George directly cites Tacitus and Suetonius as his inspirations for writing. You’ll see very clearly where the idea for this writing style came from; general description of events, scattering of explanations, occasional quotes and the constant question of “Did this actually happen or is the author just making it all up?” It’s all based on that, as much storytelling for the authors of antiquity as it was history.

"What just happened?!" Remember when Darth Vader 'caught' those blaster bolts in the palm of his hand in Cloud City? That was a Force Power called Tutamis (Energy Absorption). That is the same power this Jedi is using to hold onto Darth Malgus' lightsaber blade.

Oh boy, glad this video popped up in my timeline! I'm gonna leave a quite LONG comment, forgive me! First of all, I am glad you gave the book a chance! The fandom is very vast and many have conflicting opinions over it, and personally i think considering it a mere "texbook" is selling it short. It's really more about reading between the lines, choosing which retelling of certain events is more logical and consistent with the overall themes of the narrative. But major events such as 'Alicent is ten years older than Rhaenyra' are indisputable facts (and so, the show is its own separate canon). And yeah! You're not the only one who enjoyed pre-dance era more. It's a shame they are adapting these stories separately because pre-dance is a massive set up for the actual war and the Targaryen dynasty downfall. Onto the Dance! Technically yes, the blacks do indeed win and secure the throne. However Rhaenyra herself lost, and soon after Aegon ii as well, where the "patriarchy", hence the Greens' ideology, was by the end the absolute winner. The Dance removed any chance from that point forward for a Targaryen woman to ever sit on the throne again. And the throne did in fact "reject" Rhaenyra... but do not forget, Aegon the Conqueror himself was also cut by it! Quoting HBO past retelling of the dance: "Nonsense, it's a chair made of steel blades. Rhaenyra had wanted it all her life and sacrificed two sons for it. She likely gripped the thing to tight" - Robert Baratheon. In my own interpretation, it's mostly used to showcase moments of weakness rather than being "unfit". Just my opinion! I have frankly no idea what they plan to do with Daemon/Rhaenyra. Their whole situation in the show right now is quite a mess. Nettles seems to have been cut completely, so who knows! Book Daemon is and has always been Rhaenyra's staunchest supporter. They married in secret leaving the whole realm offended, risking an exile from his side and possible disinheritance for her, (while she was already pregnant with Aegon iii no less) and then Daemon goes fight Vaghar fully knowing he wouldn't come back. Yet he was aware Rhaenyra's current heir was Joffrey, the only son of hers that would have not put any of Daemon's blood in power (as Jace and Luke were going to marry Baela and Rhaena), that alone shows to me his decision was definitely done for her and their children sake (but also for desperation). Beside, I think there is enough evidence that supports the whole Nettles is Daemon's bastard daughter theory, especially due the fact those that claimed differently (like Mushroom) were never present in Maidenpool with them to begin with, unlike those who claim she is indeed a daughter. But, to each their own interpretation. Thank you so much for sharing this video, I enjoyed it wholly! And please do give the main saga a chance as well! There are indeed many parallels between Fire & Blood characters and Daenerys, this whole book is basically a prequel and set up done for her after all. <3

Oh there is absolutely nothing to forgive THANK YOU for this!! This is exactly the type of conversation I wanted to have with this video! Especially since I knew going in to it that everyone probably interprets the writing differently, but I am SO GLAD that I’m not alone in believing that Daemon in the book never would’ve betrayed Rhaenyra, I found him to be way more loyal (literally sacrificing his life for her). I’m glad to hear though that perhaps the throne stabbing Rhaenyra wasn’t necessarily symbolic of her lack of ability to rule! I’m fearful for whenever that happens in the show because I just KNOW the Team Green folks are gonna hold that over us on Team Black lol, but part of me never wanted to fully believe that she wasn’t fit for the throne! Many thanks for sharing your thoughts here - I’ve been dying to talk more about the book with others!

Super enjoyed Fire and Blood. Such a rich history. Hoping we get a HBO Aegon's Conquest show at some point! I think the reason they altered Alicent was in the hope the TVshow fans would be more divided between her and Rhaenyra. It's fun knowing during HotD that The Cannibal is out there. Could see arguments for both sides on who really won between Black/Green tbh, more grey than black and white for me. The SOIAF series is amazing, so much more detail and characters than the show, and some storylines/characters differ a lot from the show. My favourite storyline in SOIAF isn't even in the show it's only in the books (GoT is my fave show ever too, so I'm not bagging on it). Highly recommend!

I am not team green or team black (this is Westeros afterl all) but one thing about Rhaenyra Targaryen bloodline winning, is that while it is her children ruling after the war, the green technically won ideologically, successfully preventing a woman ruling and having her descendants, her own childen, and their children continuing having the male rule over the female to rule and at the sad cost of killing all of the dragons. I don't want to rain on your parade ,i get what you are saying, but in truth, NOBODY won the dance because nothing changes and Aegon the third is pretty much Depression on two legs. i think that is what George rr Martin is trying to tell us with this whole thing. 😂😢but that what i love about his books tho.
@CatherineLaSalle
@CatherineLaSalle 2 күн бұрын
Oh you’re 100% correct in the fact that there are no “true” winners, because everyone suffers in The Dance and at the end of all that bloodshed and carnage there really was no resolution, they all just had to clean up after themselves

As my mother and grandparents confirmed the story, I believe it to be true....About 35 yrs ago, I spent a weekend with a cousin at my aunts house. Somehow or another, the subject of Ouija was brought up. My aunt then related a story from her teen yrs. My aunt and 2 of her gal pals played with an Ouija board about 3 hrs before a Wednesday night church service. My aunt asked, "Will something bad happen at church?". The eye slid to the "Yes" answer. Later, they arrived at church and were greeted by 2 firetruck crews and about 30 congregants watching in shocked disbelief. This was a massive 2-story 150 yr old structure. It took them close to 3 hrs to get it under control. But the building was a total loss. She didn't relate the cause. But as soon as they arrived back home, my aunt immediately broke the Ouija board into several pieces. And smashed the eye with a hammer. Threw it in the garbage. 2 days later my aunt was tidying up her room. She reached under her bed, and to her utter horror, she found the board and the eye completely in tact. She went flying out of her room screaming bloody murder. As Grandma held her, she sobbed and violently trembled for several minutes. Then Grandma, a very prim and proper southern belle and devout Christian, threw the Ouija set into their backyard incinerator. After setting it ablaze, she prayed and anointed the front and back doors with olive oil. Even though that took care of it, my very shaken aunt wouldn't sleep in her own bed for 2 weeks thereafter.

This is the second reaction video of yours I’ve watched (The Exorcist was the first) and in both you’ve been incredible. Emotional and intellectual reactions and your understanding have been impressive. I’m not a TV reaction person so I’m hoping at some time you will branch out into lore films of different genres. I’m subscribing in hopes that happens because I want to watch more reactions from you. If you like Anthony Hopkins in a psychological thriller I must recommend a film from 1978 called Magic. I think you’ll enjoy it. It costars Ann Margaret and Burgess Meredith and it’s directed by Richard Attenborough. The screenplay is by William Goldman. If you don’t recognize his name just look up his credits. You’ll be impressed.

It's hard not to compare two different movies and the book. I love the casting of this movie, I love the look of this movie. The set design and the costuming fit what I imagined more. That said, As gorgeous as this movie looks it is a hot mess audiences were not ready for it and the modern ones at least took the time to make everything a little more digestible for people who hadn't read the books.
