I played veilguard and I play Andromeda...both games were great not perfect..I think it's the people who's the problem...everyone one thinks every game should cater to them...if it doesn't they trash a game or a studio...why??? ... trashing and complaining just makes things worse...be satisfied with what you get...or play something else there are tons of games out there...the people will never learn...and that's the problem...not everything is perfect.

not sure I agree, i think andromeda had better graphics and they did a better job at creating planets that really felt alien, one of my criticisms of the trilogy is that that alien architecture, clothing, planets (especially plants) felt similar to humans and earth. I agree the color palette in DA origins compared to veil guard is a big difference. In Origins it's a much darker color palette with a lot of browns and Grey's. And the armor and weapon designs really set a tone similar to that of Lord of the Rings. In inquisition and veil guard everything is very bright with a lot of bright greens and purples and the music the writing and the tone has more of a Disney Pixar Tone. One feels like a fantastical world of mysteries and beast around every turn and one feels like the kind of cartoon I would have liked when I was 7 became a video game.

At this point, as someone whose favorite studio was BioWare for the longest time, I just want EA to get it over with and shut them down. Their last really good game was Mass Effect 3, and since then, they've had a decade of back-to-back misses and failures. Almost everyone who made BioWare what it was is gone, and the studio as it is now is just a shambling corpse, poisoning everything it touches. Them shutting down would be a mercy, and one long overdue.

its still amazing to me that developers aren't learning that the vast majority of gamers don't want this woke messaging in their games. Dragonage should have been a serious game with a photo realistic style and perhaps even turn based combat. What we got was a pixar desgined game with cringe dialogue and absolutely no agency from the player. I felt no threat jeapordy in the plot. The fact that you couldn't even play as an evil character was a massive misstep. Bioware need to take heed of this for the development of mass effect. They need to fire their writers and get in some people that prioritise characters and story over identity politics messaging.

DeMarle is a very good writer. I don't think she's a truly great writer but a very good one nonetheless. But if it's one thing we've learned about writers is how fast things can change. The lead writer of Veilguard wrote a lot of "golden age" Bioware stuff. They wrote Mordin, one of the best Bioware characters of all time. But Veilguard's writing was complete garbage all around. Not to say we should judge DeMarle based on how other writers turned out. But all I'm saying is that a lot of writers will inevitably write some stinkers, especially if they become ideologically captured in our current social and political environment. I'm rooting for her and the team to do good work on the next Mass Effect, but if it ends up garbage, I can't say I'd be surprised.

I feel like we’re still stuck in the past, thinking the BioWare of old is the same as what BioWare is today. Yes, some of the original staff are still at the studio but the majority have moved on. BioWare feels more like a brand name nowadays rather than a top quality studio.

BioWare is a classic example of the issues with modern day developers, to many Starbucks brainstorming sessions with entitled developers all wanting their spin or their cause reflected in the narrative. Good writing getting clipped is the only reason why I gave baldurs gate a chance. It’s not my style of gameplay I like but the clips were enough for me to give it a shot. It’s now one of my favorite games of all time and really gave me an experience I’ve wanted since first playing mass effect. Good writing and voice acting so important in these rpgs

The way I see it other studios will continue Bioware's legacy... We got BG3 from Larian, Exodus is coming from former Bioware developers and Saber Interactive is making the KOTOR remake. Maybe in the future someone will remake Dragon Age Origins but I'm done with Bioware I have zero expectations for Mass Effect 5.

Very sad that this will be a "controversial" take. To save this company Mass Effect 5 needs a few critical things. A. Pre determined main character (like Shephard) that can be only male or female. B. Respect, inclusion, and deference to legacy characters. C. Shepard. D. Combat most similar to ME2 with role playing and inventory mechanics more similar to the original Mass Effect and DAI. D. Complex nuanced characters and writing that includes the ability to make good or evil choices, including exiling or killing companions.

Solas seemed like the only one who was decently written/acted. And that's probably because his character was pre-established in a previous title in a big way, so they couldn't ruin him to the same degree they ruined Isabella.

Man, I really wish BioWare did bounce back. I did like Veilguard, even if it's my least liked Dragon Age, and I hate the direction they were taking. Especially when compared to the big dog in the field that is Baldur's Gate 3. I'm really rooting for Mass Effect 5, I'm hoping that it does work out and maybe in the future they can revive Dragon Age in the future, but I really do hope it goes back to it's roots in terms of writing and tone. Matty your take that they need to focus on a core group of fans, and let the buzz grow from there is completely correct. Veilguard's marketing was abysmal, even if the game came out as it did, I do think a better marketing would have sold more units. I really hope Dragon Age isn't done, but I'm not hopeful. I'm going to wait for next ME really does turn out to be great

Anthem sucked and closed the door to new projects, DAV basically killed the dragon age franchise. MEA put their franchise on the brink, but was brougt back by the remaster. If they dont peform with this one, Bioware is DEAD.

At the end of the day, game developer are just corporations. They are there to make money. Those that make money and further the art are companies like Larian. If you make quality with fun, the money will follow. But you can't look at these corporations like people. They aren't a monolith, and 1 person or 5 people can make a tremendous difference.

Given the crisis mode EA is in right now I expect Bioware full closure within the year. What are the odds a publisher at risk would keep open a skeleton crew studio, for a whole new project, likely to take upwards of 5-10 years of onward development, at the cost of multiple hundreds of millions of dollars, with expected returns like... this? I'd say a fraction of a percent. Especially since the industry isn't healing any time soon.

I can't see them closing BioWare just yet. ME is a big name title and they have that TV show going on. So if EA were to shut down the studio, they'd end up handing the game off to someone else, and that someone else would start out behind on legacy knowledge for what's been done so far. So BioWare will probably be tasked with finishing the next ME title. If it does well, they'll get another project. If it doesn't, that's it. And it will likely be an uphill battle. Morale will be low. Probably still have office space for the previous size staff, yet far fewer people now, so the emptiness to remind you of the state of things. Of the remaining people, you'll lose more than normal as they take advantage of other opportunities, to go work at a new place that isn't doom and gloom, back to the wall. And overall, the drive to put in extra won't really be there.

They really focused on the wrong things, if you try to appeal to everyone, you end up appealing to no one. The Mass Effect Trilogy essentially ended with the third game and almost nobody including myself cared about Andromeda. If it's your last chance, you're the best odds would be to remake the entire Trilogy on a new engine and add improvements to the AI and animations, we would even purchased them separately if they were good enough like the Resident Evil remakes. However, they are to incompetent to do that, it will essentially be a woke game with characters nobody cares about. Don't trust it, not purchasing it.
