It Begins...Gangs Take Over, Government Collapses in Haiti
Barbecue | Haiti's Most Wanted Gang Leader
As Haiti’s president, Jovenel Moïse, is killed in an attack on his private residence.
Head of one of the most powerful and notorious gangs in Port-au-Prince, Jimmy Cherizier, also known as 'Barbecue' has spoken to Sky News.
The mobster is the leader of a gang called the G9 Family and Allies.
For the first time Jimmy 'Barbecue' Cherizier says he is prepared to talk peace - but only if he's given a seat at the table. He says 'if the international community comes with a detailed plan where we can sit together and talk, but they do not impose on us what we should decide, I think the weapons could be lowered'.

you have made several mistakes about the history of Haiti. for example, Aristide is corrupt even if he was democratically elected. today he is worth 850 million while these only 2 jobs were priest and president. he wanted to denounce the situation only when the Americans got rid of him because he was no longer useful. he is the biggest threat of haiti because he accept to sign the destruction of the army, which lead at this Kos. also, Haiti did not invade DR to repay himself, but to free DR from slavery, strengthen the strategic defense zone against the colonizers, and reunify the two peoples because in truth they are one. Haitians saw them as a brothers. but the Dominicans were brainwashed to hate the Haitians by their former master who wanted DR to become a Spanish colony again. They have absorbed the education of the racial hierarchy of their colonizers where black people are inferior, and they therefore aspire to be recognized aspart of their oppressor. the Dominicans were equipped by the French against the Haitians. it was after this that the French returned to demand a dept. governments made small payments to buy time. but it was with the American invasion that they ended everything collect. if the Dominican tells you the history, they will tell you their alternative version of the history. They believe their history is similar to that of Pokahentas where their colonizers loved them. so you forgot to tell how the Americans invaded Haiti, and took it possession of their bank. This is how they emptied their account to share the money with France. there was also Haitian resistance against the invasion with the Cacos rebel group.

IF I go to a country and gain access to invest and extract resources I have paid for that access. Its odd to then blame the person who invested. Its clear there was a subsection of haiti society that were keeping all the money and resources to themselves and locking themselves away from the rest of the country. ITs just corruption through and through. I think people forget how self centered a lot of people are and generally dont give a damn about the country they live in so long as they are "Ok"

@@powerpound8165 I see what you are saying, but I am inclined to disagree. At first, yes, France set out to bankrupt Haiti. But, since the rule of Papa Doc, the country should have been doing well - but Papa Doc (who was a Black nationalist) and his cohorts robbed the country from the 1950s onwards. They did that. Not the West. The corruption was utterly endemic. As is pointed out in the video presentation. Part of the problem was the initial slave revolt, which wrecked the industrial infrastructure and deterred other countries from investing. No one wanted to trade with a population which had just massacred the French population. Somehow, however, Haiti was, nevertheless, able to pay back the initial indemnity fairly soon - the interest on that, more recently. But such international debts aren't uncommon. As an example, the UK only recently paid off the initial costs of paying for the release of slaves across the British Empire in 1835: it was the largest loan debt in history and paid off in 2015. In the 1830s, the loan represented 40% of the UK's national budget. Instability is a massive problem. Of the 36 presidents preceding Papa Doc, 23 were assassinated. But, Papa Doc's policies had much to do with it. The notion of the West's culpability is a convincing alibi. In fact, the US briefly stabilised Haiti...as the video shows. But, Papa Doc was determined to keep his people poor and uneducated. At the height of his powers, 90% of Haitians were illiterate. Papa Doc's fault - not the West. Papa Doc used his private security forces for slaughtering any opposition. Again, not the West - Papa Doc. The US support for Haiti wasn't as unconditional or as perpetual as the video mentioned. Papa Doc made efforts to break away from dependence on US aid - he hated the idea and resisted it when possible. Papa Doc did nothing appreciable to lift his people from misery. He could have adopted policies akin to those of the Dominican Republic - but chose not to. He'd rather execute, at one point, over 2000 rivals and opponents a week. :/

But we brought in food to the starving people there... We provided safety and even brought in goods, yes as a soldier we spent money there... The U.S. has been involved with this country so many times, and we just waist it... When we left the country in the mid 90's it went right back to the way it was... We can't keep doing this, we should of just took it over and made it a territory back in 1900's when we got involved. But here again we going to spend billions of dollars for what... If we go in we need to go in clean house.

160,000 dead from one earthquake. Imagine already being a poor country and then having to find the money to rebuild your country when your workforce just went down by at least 50,000 human beings. That is a no-win situation, they would have had to sell their country out to get the kind of bailout that would be needed. I genuinely dont understand what they were supposed to do about this other than hope they dont die.

You've missed quite a bit. Haiti already had a terrible start as it was a former slave colony specializing in sugar production described as a veritable hell that the French were milking. They cut all their natural vegetation and thus the deforistation caused a lot of heat related issues along with natural resource issues. The US also refused to recognize them when they declared independence, France returned after they overthrew them and demanded such a hefty debt that they never truly recovered. The US also came in and forcefully took control later with a US run bank effectively taking control and embezzling funds from the country. Haiti is a country doomed to fail from the beginning. France and the US put them on the track to failure and corrupt officials and gangs just made it that much worse. We like to blame their shitty government and gangs but knowing the background is just as important. France essentially milked them for everything then ran away once they put the country into a second veritable economic hell. The US just compounded it.

The arrogance and obliviousness are off the charts when people really think that western nations would rush to the aid of a nation which had just slaughtered innocent women and children. Yet some Haitians seem to really think that western nations should have done just that.

My parent are haitian but i was born in north amarica and for real theres 2 things i dont really understand from haiti history: why did Toussaint L'ouverture went back to France and got kill and why did haiti paid the money to France. China do not recognize Taiwan as a country and they are one of the most developing country
@romsmex
@romsmex 12 күн бұрын
1) Toussaint went to France because he was invited. Nobody takes vacation during war. Obviously if he knew they were going to kill him he would not have gone. And he was told not to go, that it was a trap, France was not really going to parley with him. 2) Haiti paid the money because of the context. It was either paying or continuing the war. But continuing the war until what point ? It is hard to continue a war with no ally. (just look at 3kraine, they would have never made it that far without other countries helping) 3) China is one country. At that time we are talking about the world not recognizing you as a country. And those recognizing you were not in better shape... who will you do trade with, who will fight with you, who will loan you money or goods, etc... fast forward to now Haiti is sabotaged. They want everybody out to do their things but God will not allow that to happen.

Let's see if I can post this: Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, with current per capita GDP about US$1700 or so, the richest person in Haiti may have a net worth of somewhere from US$ 10 to a few 100s millions. And political parties are fragmented which means wealth may not be concentrated in few politicians... imagine with this level of wealth, hiring mercenary soldiers to assassinate a political rival? Rather unlikely. Just as using radioactive poisoning to assassinate is a signature of Putin, hiring mercenaries to assassinate in a foreign country is a signature of none other than USA.
