Within the world of extremely rare and limited production Chrysler products from the Musclecar era, this 1966 Dodge Coronet is a true enigma. It's a body and engine combination that could never have found each other through the normal dealership ordering procedures and all indications are that it was one of several hand built by Chrysler to insure the 426 engine would be accepted by NASCAR should the 426 Hemi not prove viable as a street package. ‪@BackWoodsPerformance67‬

I was a delivery porter at Grand Spalding Dodge in 1966, these cars were a special order by Mr Norm. A believe it was a group of 50, and were a one time deal. They were ordered in case the street hemi didn't sell well.

My late father worked at a Dodge dealer that dealt in a lot of performance cars and he also drag raced semi-professionally. My uncle also worked there and street raced. My uncle was 9 years younger than my father. Originally Chrysler had planned to offer the 426 Street Wedge in 1966, including a new two-four barrel version. They had built a number of 426 Street Wedges for the 1966 model year. The production cars were cancelled for 1966, for the 426 Hemi. The leftover 426 Street Wedge engines were used in some 1966 D100 pickup trucks and some were used as industrial engines. You certainly could get the 426 Street Wedge early in the 1966 model year, as a separate engine.

There was a 1967 Coronet 500 in Auburn CA in 1977. Original paint/ everything. Not sure if this was a factory option. There was also a 1969 Daytona Six Pack in Grass Vally CA in 1978. There were actually two Daytonas in that town at that time. I thought the six pack wasnt real, but a collector in Texas told me it was, he knew about it.

one day you guys are gonna realize how worthless build sheets and factory records are. back in those days...the execs did whatever they wanted....and sold to themselves and their friends whatever they wanted......when the hemi went "out of production"...thousands were sold with 383/440/400 build sheets...engines were sold direct to dealers you name it... if you had a connection...you got what you wanted. even in the late 80s early 90s......probably still happening today too

My Aunt worked at Chrysler in Highland Park in data entry. She bought a new 1969 Roadrunner convertible (383). When she decided to sell it and replace it, my dad bought it. Part of the deal was, we had to drive her to I believe Lynch-road to pick it up her new 1972 Charger 440 (triple black). I was fortunate enough to tag along for the ride. It was the fall of 1971 and the ride back to my aunt's house in Warren is a memory I will have forever. I was a 6-year-old kid in the front seat of the Roadrunner when we pulled next to my aunt in her brand-new Charger (on 8-mile road at Mound). My dad gave my aunt the nod and my aunt shook him off. We took off and left my aunt sitting there in her new Charger. When we got back to her house, she read my dad the riot act. She was not happy! Just felt like I needed to share with a bunch of Mopar nuts! Thanks for listening!

Tony. As an older Mopar Man myself I love your channel. Finding this and researching it for us is so interesting. My father had an auto parts store until the 1980's and we would hear rumors of these one off cars from all the Big "4" back then. (Can't forget AMC). He actually bought a 1976 Monte Carlo for my mother from a GM executive at the Corvette plant in Kentucky. I remember him talking about some unique wheels & a few other parts that were factory on it but only available to GM employees. That thing had 43 miles of vacuum hose under the hood. God forbid one came loose. UGH!

My dad was a salesman at a Chrysler/Dodge dealer and during the mid-60s and even into the 70's, if you had a good relationship with the district sales manager, you could get anything you wanted for one of your customers. My dad arranged for a 70 Coronet with base level trim, and a Hemi. It just had the V8 badge on the fender and full hubcaps on the wider rims. In 1966, my dad took me for a ride in the district sales managers car provided to him by Chrysler/Dodge. It was a 66 2-door Coronet 500 with a Hemi and 4 speed and just had the V8 emblems and the small hubcaps on steel body-color rims.

This is one of the reasons that the 1966 Dodge B Bodies are my favorite Mopars. I ran across one in the 80's with a relocated rear suspension, fiberglass fenders and fiberglass sedan doors. Ratty and rough, the owner informed me that it was a factory 426 Wedge car. I've owned quite a few 66 Coronets, including a Deluxe two door cop car that I helped my late father with a 69 Six Pack and four speed swap. Weight transfer was most excellent. Fun ride.

Similar story. A friends Dad worked for Ford Australia for 30ish years. He had a lot to do with R & D of the EB Falcon XR8 (which was to be a new V8 performance car for Ford Oz) He had the pull to order a brand new black EB XR8 manual with a Mustang engine- instead of the Oz modified 302 Windsor, it was installed with a 351 Windsor (which was initiaally used for research). He sadly got Parkinsons about 15 years ago, and my friend & hsi brother are restoring it for their Dad.

I have to agree with everything you said in the video as well UTG it makes the pieces of the puzzle fit together a lot better than the speculation we’ve had about how this car ended up existing.

I was a parts department employee at a Chrysler Plymouth Dodge Dealer in eastern PA from 1971-1973, and talked with the shop mechanics all the time. The subject of cars with odd options showing up on the transporters came up one day and one mechanic who had previously worked at a Boyertown Dodge dealer said one day a 1965 Dodge Coronet 4-dr 330 (plain Jane rubber floor mat model) with a 426 Hemi 4 speed was unloaded at the dealership. I had discounted this story to some degree over the years, as supposedly the 426 hemi wasn’t a factory option in 1965. However now I’m not so sure I was being bs’d, especially since you mentioned some 1965 cars were built with Hemis. Another detail of this story as I recall was that it was late in the 1965 model year when “the factory” is trying to clear out all the oddball cars and dumping them on the dealers for clearance. BTW, the mechanic said a fellow mechanic saw the option list for the Coronet and walked into the showroom and said “I’m buying that car!”

Dad had a 67 Dodge Coronet RT with a 440 which he ordered from the factory with an enhanced engine. I got to drive it as a teen and took it to the strip and ran multiple low 11 quarters with it, was never beaten on the street by any of the hot cars of the day either. It said 150 on the speedometer and I had it buried a few times. Dad sold it while I was in the military, made me sick cause I would have bought it had I known he was selling it. Fastest damn car I ever drove.

It was a blue/green color with a black vinyl roof, it had a 426 Hemi Engine in it, I saw it with my own eyes. Huge black valve covers and inline dual 4-barrel carbs. I was a motorhead in those days and I knew what I was looking at, no doubt! Also, It had the 426 HEMI badge on the fenders low between the wheel opening and the front door hinge seem gap. ks, still in Annapolis

Uncle Tony, I got one for you. My great aunt and uncle were teens in the early 60s, in Southern California. In 1963-64, my great aunt's parents bought a Plymouth Savoy 4 door end of model year thing. Salmon color. My great-aunt and Uncle used to cruise up Hawthorne Boulevard stop sign to stop sign, and this Savoy sedan chewed up back tires like crazy. My great uncle goes to change the oil in it for the first time, and was greeted with two chrome air cleaners, a cross ram intake, and a "zonker orange", as he described it, engine!

One of the 4 door hemis was in a town I grew up in, its the gold one thats in Florida now and fully restored. It was then sold and the kids put a hood scoop on it and would toy with other cars on the street.

This video jogged my memory about a couple of 4-door Coronets I'd read about years ago, one was a custom build for Floyd Cline who ordered the four door Coronet with a hemi along with dual 4 barrels. Chrysler put a name plate on the glove compartment door commemorating the custom build. I'd spent about 10 minutes digging through my old collection of MOPAR Performance, Hot Rod, Muscle Car magazines and found that article in the November '87 edition of Muscle Cars magazine - and on page 51, titled: "Kansas City Bombers" (which I didn't know you wrote until now,) covered Cline's '66 four door hemi plus another red four door Coronet I'm also looking for a second article which has more details on Cline's special order. If you want a copy I can mail it.

You just jogged my memory. My brother bought a '69 Plymouth Wagon loaded from a designer who worked at Chrysler in '77. It was a 440 & had an aftermarket Holley 650 cfm 4 bbl. The guy also gave my bro the original intake manifold with 3-2bbls(6-pack?). There were a lot of cars built at Chrysler plants where the built sheet did not jive with the actual goodies on the car. Rumor has it that hemi cars were built with a 6 cyl build sheet to save on sky high insurance rates. Back then some guys were paying more to insure the car per month than the car payment.

Interesting you mention the two four door Hemi cars. Back in the mid 80's, I lived in Wichita, KS. A friend of mine, Dave Betth----- had recently bought one of those 4 door Hemi cars. Dave was a huge Chrysler fan, and knew about everything there was to know about Chrysler cars, and most other American makes as well. Dave was an auto body repairman, and really knew cars, especially related to bodywork. Dave also Drag raced, and in the early 80's won the NHRA Bracket Nationals one year, though with a Pontiac GTO. One of his other favorites. One day Dave told me a Mopar magazine wanted to do an article on the two 4 door Hemi cars, and needed photos. I was a photographer, and so he asked me to photograph the car, to send to the magazine. Turns out the other 4 door Hemi car was also in Wichita at the time, owned by the family of the gentleman who had originally owned the car. I can't recall his name, but he ran a dyno shop. That 4 door Hemi was not running at the time, as the engine had been tore down for a rebuild. Dave and I went over in his 4 door Hemi to the garage where the other car and the engine were in parts, to get photos of that car as well. I took a few rolls of slide film photos of Dave's car, and the other 4 door Hemi as well, and sent them to the magazine. A couple months later, the magazine published an article on the two 4 door Hemi cars, with a dozen or so of my photos. Somewhere I still have a copy or two of that magazine. A few years later, Dave sold his 4 door Hemi to Big Daddy Don Garlits, the great Top Fuel Drag Racer. Back in 2013, I went to Florida for vacation, and visited the Don Garlits Museum in Ocala. There in the collection was Dave's 4 door Hemi car, still displaying the personalized KS. License plate, that said 4 Dr Hemi. I took another photo to show Dave.

There were some rare combinations built at the end of the model year, more than once. In 1969 I had just started working at a Chrysler Plymouth dealer. One car that stands out in my memories was a 1969 Plymouth Sport Satellite with 4 doors, a 4 speed and a 383 Road Runner engine. It was a medium blue with white interior, bucket seats with a console. It had the skinny goodyear power cushion tires on it. It was marked to go to our Chrysler factory rep. Also the later Chrysler production process, in the 2000s assigns a vin number as soon as the vehicle is scheduled for production. When I ordered my 2007 Ram pickup I was working as a fixed operations manager for a Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealer and was able to track my truck in the system. The Vin number appeared a week before the production date.

Lots of oddities come and did come from the factories. For example, about 1974 or 75, a customer came into my garage for a front end alignment and it was a recent purchase so the guy wanted no issues. I guess he did not trust the dealership as many don't. My brother got it up on the lift to set the stands (we had the Aamco set up, pretty nice if maintained and not bumped about) and when he went to adjust toe in, lo and behold -one side had a drum brake and the other side had a disc brake installed in the front. We stopped, called the customer and asked if he had noticed any pulling and he said none whatsoever. We advised him to take it back to the dealership and get it corrected. We never saw him after that to find out what they did, disc or drum, and if they tried to charge him for Mopar's mistake.

35 years ago, my father had bought a 1970 Challenger RT/SE 4 speed with the pistol grip rolling chassis. It was lime green and on left fender it was 340/six pack and right one was 440/sixpack. One was changed at some point. Someone from Toronto (15hours away drive) called him about the car and asked if he had that specific car. My dad told him the VIN like 3 or 4 times to make sure it was the right one he was looking for. He then asked for a price and my father let it go for 2000$CA. The next day he was at our door step with a 18 wheeler. After my dad signed the papers i remember the Guy told my father it was a very special car and there was only 3 left in the world. It was sold the same day to the US for 22500$US just the Rolling chassis. I always wondered what was the real story under and what happened to it. Ill never forget that small window in the back. My father took the money and bought a 1968 Charger R/T 440. Dont need to tell you it was a dream car when your 16 and go driving up in town. Hahaha

My father owned a 1967 sport fury that supposedly never existed. It had a 426 engine with 2 separate intake manifolds. Both of which had a 4bbl carburetor and a separate air cleaner. I don't remember if it was a hemi or not, but it too was painted orange. He purchased the car in the late fall of 1967 from a dealership in Horsham, PA. He told me that he got a great deal on the car because it was specially ordered for someone else who was killed in Vietnam, and they needed to sell the car because the 68 models were coming in. I was 7 years old, and I remember helping him do oil changes, filter changes and it was the first time my dad had me help him do a brake job on the rear drum brakes. The car was red with a black vinyl roof. It had the bullet turn signals on top of the fenders, wing windows, bench seats, and air conditioning. It even had red, white, and blue 'Sport Fury' badges on the front fenders. My dad loved that car. When my family moved out west in 1971, we even shipped the car out west with us, by train. The last I saw the car was in San Bernardino in 1972 when he was forced to get rid of it because it wouldn't pass California emissions. He traded it in on a 1972 Dodge Monaco wagon. Light blue with the fake wood grain sticker on the sides and tailgate. Years later I tried looking up information about that car, only to find out that according to everything published, they never put 426 engines in 67 sport furies, but I remember what I saw. I have never seen the strange intake manifold setup like his car on any of the dozens of Mopars my family or I have owned since.

I remember reading something about the early 426 Hemi blocks were too weak for NASCAR ? I maybe wrong on what i recall. The Chrysler engineers went to the foundry and dug out casting sand in the molds in the problem areas to increase thickness in the blocks. Could this be the worry that Chrysler had, and were ready to fall back on 426 wedge engines ? I would love for someone to add to that, if they know.... Another great video Tony !

I remember the mopar guys in Lubbock TX trying to figure my 71 dodge challenger I had bought and was looking for parts. When I bought it, it had a 383. Hey Tony, interesting story. My dad bought a new 66 Fury III. I recall as a boy looking through the original owners manual and reading about available engines. It mentioned 318, 225, 383 at cetera. But it clearly said the 426 was available as a wedge or hemi head. I know that there weren't any hemi motors in full size Plymouth models. The manual might have covered other cars. I always thought the 440 appeared in 66 as the big engine option, but 426 motors might have been used as well. I remember in high school a friend buying a retired highway patrol car with a 426 for a few hundred dollars. Perhaps Chrysler was using up old leftover stock back then.

I love odd Mopars! here's one for you...tell me if you ever heard of one. I have a 1965 Chrysler 300 4 speed. I asked to see a pic of the data plate to see if it was coded D3 for the 4 spd. Yes, it was but not a 383 it was shown with. It has the A99 code just like my 300L the HP 413. I'm like...this is rarer than a basic 383, I gotta' look into it. Then, this tag actually has another 99 above the alphabet. A 'special' special order car? The 426 wedge was the only higher engine that year in C bodys( Fury/Monaco-Polara) but NOT the Chrysler 300. So I'm restoring it with a 426 wedge I've had for 40 years on an engine stand. I had it there with Max Wedge heads and intake bolted on for fun. It has a 42 stamped on the RB pad. Tell me if you know anything about these cars or if you want pics. Frank in Ohio

Back in 1966, NASCAR went by the calendar year, not by the model year. The salesman's data books for 1966 all had a special notice pasted on the inside front cover, saying not to accept any orders for Hemi's until after January first. That means they only had about 4 months to get the customer orders in, I think they used to stop taking orders about April, then build out what they had accepted through the rest of the model year. I sure there was a lot of pent up demand for a 426 during the first 4 months of the year.

Here in Detroit back in the day it was who you knew that depended on what you could get. A friend knew the high ups in the union, in 1975 he was going to buy a new Dodge truck. They told him “you order a base pickup, give us the order number and we will do you right.” They went down the line and had every single top of the line option available put into that truck. The vin said it was a reg cab slant truck but it was a big block extended cab truck.

In 1964 my dad bought a 64 Sport Fury with the 426 wedge and 727. He sold it in 68 after my brother came along in 67. He decided to get another one in 2011, since he could never find the one he bought new. He finally found the twin to his car in 2015. Apparently there aren't very many 426 wedge Sport Furys, and very few in turquoise with turquoise interiors. He found a black 4 speed 426 SF, but he wanted the auto like he had. I read there were only 92 of them built in 64 with the 426 wedge. From what my mopar nut brother and I can tell, dad found a low mile survivor that had never been restored, was raced a bit, and had been repainted by the guy dad got it from. It still has the original bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends... everything. The heads have been worked over a bit with some porting. Its apprently a very rare mopar.

Hi Tony, love your channel and was / am a BIG FAN of your groundbreaking Street Hemi detective work back in the 1980's. Some questions I have regarding this 1966 Street Wedge 426 Coronet are....was it initially built with a Dana 60 behind that RB wedge like a 4-speed Hemi and every '67-up 4-speed 440 would have been - or the 8-3/4 as used under 4-speed 1964 Max Wedge and '64-'65 Race Hemi 4-speeds? And what about the original leaf springs...were they 'biased" like the 4-speed RB units of '67 (and all '66 Hemi)? That said, as a drag car the OE leafs were probably modified / replaced long ago. True? Also, I'm betting the original fender tag was lost in the shuffle or it would be part of the discussion today. Obviously, the engine code would be HIGHLY illuminating to support the factory-installed 426 wedge. Also, it might just be a simple (but intriguing) case of "building out" a small number of remaining 1965 426 Street Wedges into these '66 cars. We know that a LOT of 1973 Slant Six Darts got the big 8-3/4 small-bolt A-body rear axle simply to "use them up" before the 8-1/4 rear axle and BIG BOLT (on HP and front disc cars) replaced the small bolt 8-3/4 in '74 (1973-'76 slant six A-bodies could still be had with the small-bolt hubs right up to the end in '76 when light duty suspension and 9-inch drums were specified...but you knew that). I used to run right up to any and every 1973 Dart (and Valiant) in my Los Angeles junkyard treasure hunts and on at least 5 occasions I'd see an 8-3/4 under a Slant Six body. I even snagged one for Freiburger who wrote all about it in Car Craft magazine. So maybe these '66 Street Wedge 426 cars were a "build-out" scenario? When they were gone ... they were gone. Anyhoo, I'm with you in hoping the current owners of this "unicorn" respect its place as a WEIRD combo and perhaps restore it to as-built configuration. Thanks for all you have done - and continue to do! -Steve Magnante

Big Steve!!! I call you Coffeemate around here, because I usually drink my first cup of the day watching your latest uploads. According to Gary French, who was my actual eyes on this car, nothing was out of the ordinary for a 383 car EXCEPT the H in the VIN and the 426 Wedge worded on the build sheet. Everything else I know about this car is in the video. The rear MIGHT have originally been a Dana, but the car has its original core support and it's the smaller one. Pretty sure that Dana 60 cars always had the larger radiator. Two things, Steve. #1 We're overdue for a live together. Let's set something up soon #2 Katie...she's BEAUTIFUL! I was only 6 years old when this occurred, but it was such an amazing car that I'll never forget it. My best friend's older brother had a 68 RT 500 Hemi Coronet. It's only two flaws were that it was an automatic and it was this awful light beige color. By the time I knew of it his brother could no longer drive it because he was caught several times street racing. It's fate was one of those "here's the deal", what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas if you do what I say judge moments. The judge made him a deal that if he sold the car to him, he would dismiss all charges and re-instate my friend's brother's license with no infractions. The judge ended up with the car, but it was the last option. He did pay up for it though. I think it was something like $5,500 in 1975, which was a lot then.

My experience being a retired 5th generation UAW Chrysler employee is that back in the day. Many builds on the assembly line received many different upgrades that weren't supposed to have been applied. However in two different factors of the reason why it happened. Special favors for people who the worker knows and the other factor is the worker grabbed the wrong parts and they slipped through. This happens today but very little simply because of the updated assembly process. Back then, the process was manually done. Computer verification didn't exist. Belvidere assembly is notorious for this to happen back in the day.

I'm new to this channel, but the intelligent way that Tony speaks and the way he puts words together is somewhat unusual in this field on KZbin, and I suspected that he had some journalism experience. And now, my third video in, it is revealed to me that he actually ran a magazine for a long time, and further digging told me that he wrote for several others. It's just so refreshing to me to hear sentences constructed with some thought put into them. And yes, I know that others are good at it too, but Tony here really jumped out at me for that reason. To illustrate what I mean: Tony is obviously not using a script here; he's just talking. However, if you were to transcribe his words right here onto paper, you would have a legitimate magazine article with almost zero editing required. It's that good. His thoughts are really well-organized. It's as if he is writing an article in his head. I've been away from cars for decades now. It was an addiction I could no longer afford. But this channel is looking like it could be an addiction on its own.

I was allowed to purchase low mileage cars from the exec lease turn in center on Lynch Road & Mound Road in Detroit. We could contact the exec that leased the car/van/truck for comments about the vehicle. A few were factory mules that engineers would test at the Chelsea test track, some even cruised Woodward Avenue. I'm sure some were extremely rare due to the way the car was ordered. Some had every conceivable option & color combination. For example: I bought a loaded '76 Dart Sport that was spotless in early '77 with only 6k miles for $3,000 & had it delivered to my choice of dealer. Great benefit while it lasted.

There was a guy who owned a shop in Wichita,Kansas who ran a shop that was kind of like the "tuner shops" now.He would sort out and tune your muscle car to get every last HP out. He owned a four door 66 Coronet with a factory Hemi. Somehow the ended up down in Don Garlits place.

Mr. Norm’s would do that, too. They would put your brand new engine on a dyno, and some of the new engines produced terrible numbers.

Actually it was another 4 door Hemi that ended up in Don Garlits museum. It was an off white one, owned by a friend of mine, also from Wichita, KS. The car still has the KS. license plate on it in the museum. Mr. Kline's was a red one. I took photos of both of them for a Mopar magazine in the mid/late 80's. The Hemi from the red car was in pieces in a garage at the time.

Back in 1970 (ish), at a night street drag thing us kids did back then, a 60 Corvette and a gold '66 Plymouth Satellite I 4 door sedan pulled up to the line, neat as a pin, body color steelies with dog dish caps, no engine tags on the fenders. The Satellite let the Corvette get a length out and he hit it. He bellowed passed that Corvette +/- at the 1/8 mile mark and kept going. The Satellite returned and parked in the lot. I needed to see what was in that Satellite I. The Satellite was a nice as you'd expect a four or five year old car to be. It was a typical Satellite I with taxi bench seats, shifter on the column and a 2" hitch receiver out the back. It had a factory 426 Hemi under the hood. The gentleman driving the car had just purchased it a few days before from an old man who was using it to haul his Airstream and wanted to get something that got bit better mileage so sold it. I'm sure what happened is that the old guy walked into SL Savage in Seattle and asked for the cheapest Satellite with the biggest engine he could get to haul that trailer and a salesman penciled that up for him. It has often been said that Chrysler would build most anything you wanted and that made me a believer. From that time forward I have never seen one like it. I have heard that there may have been one or two built bit I don't know for sure.

The original owner probably street raced it around the North about 4 years until running up on a mysterious black Challenger that laid waste to it which then disappeared like a thief in the night embarrassing him so badly he pulled the original wedge out and threw it in the river!

Unlike the black ghost and it’s fabricated story the original owner already told me this wasn’t a monster of the street all he did was put a bigger tire and drive it with however Mr Norm tuned the wedge motor the wedge was blown up racing a 390 mustang a well deserved end for it

These one or two off cars are anything but unusual. In fact they were fairly common. In '71 or '73 my father nearly traded our '67 Thunderbird for a ,69 ,or '70. The thing that killed the deal was the fuel mileage of the Chrysler - 10 mpg, which the Thunderbird got 15 mpg, enough difference to end the deal. They had swapped for a week to see how well they liked the other car. I was sent out to wash the Chrysler, and curiosity got the best of me, the car was an absolute beast around town, it took an honest effort to Not spin the tires, had an exhaust note more like a Road Runner than a full size Chrysler, and had induction noise that sounded like the hood would cave in. So I popped the hood on the Chrysler, not knowing what I would find - and there it was, a little smelly from some oil seepage and a good 1/4" of dirt everywhere - a thoroughly neglected 440-6pak. How this engine ended up in this car loses me, but there it was. It was one of those new cars that sit far end of the third row, apparently someone ordered ordered it and my dad's friend bought it. 440-6pak, A727B and Dana 60, 3:55s limited slip. I'd LOVE TO HAVE THAT CAR! (I like the 440 better for the street)

Hey Tony, you mentioned special order K engines, and it reminded me of a special order Z engine I saw one. I think I saw it at the Mopars with Big Daddy Don Garlits show about 15 years ago. I saved the car info, but it's not in front of me right now. It was a Plymouth E body, probably a performance model 'Cuda. It had a Z in the VIN for the special order engine, and it also had A38 Police Package on the fender tag. It's the only time I've seen either of those features on an E body, and is the main reason I remember the car. The story was that it's a backup car for one of the factory sponsored race teams, but never got used. A38 gave the car double spot welds while going down the line, so that it held up to stress better.

There was a couple of '70 cudas given to Dan Gurney's AAR racing team when they signed the Trans Am deal in late 1969... I bet the one you saw is one of those...

It's been years ago, but I feel like the car was either parked next to a Sox & Martin replica, or itself had been painted like a Sox & Martin car. I really like the AARs though.

In 1970 when I ordered my semi Challenger R/T I waited about 6 months for it. The dealer told me that Dodge waited till they got a certain number of hemi car orders and they then assembled them at one time one after the other. Made sense. so I waited. Also the dealer gave a great price, $75 dollars over invoice.

One of my good friends back in let’s say 1976-77 bought a 1966 Plymouth Satellite H code car. It had a 4:56 Dana 60. 4 speed 18 spline. I remember the wheel wells cut out for big wide tires. Looked like it was set up for racing at some point. When he bought it the owner said he pulled the hemi and put a 383 in it. It was not a GTX. It was a Satellite. The vin said it was a H car. I don’t recall seeing the broadcast sheet.
