Borrow Doug's bigger Ultratec trailer and see if it fits your use case better. Or, you could add some increased height to the sides of your existing trailer.

I know it looks neater stacked, but since I've gone to splitting directly into totes loose I haven't gone back. The amount of time it saves and less touching of the wood means I can keep on splitting a much larger quality of wood....just my 2 cents! Love the new building!

Consider building an elevated box that has sides that are just shorter than your conveyer. The side next to the tote could be made with hinges to fold in half so you can reach in to unload easily. It's size and height could be custom made to your body size so you can reach every corner and not have to lean over too much. If you had the floor of the box just higher than the trailer, the outer side could also be a door so that you could rake out debris into your small trailer.

If it is a matter of trailer A (big) or trailer B (small) stick with trailer A. Not a big deal to raise the bed to shift wood rearward. Adam, would you consider doing an in-depth video on the various woods for use. IE, smoking, heat, length of burn, smoke, etc. When you tossed the hemlock into the pile I was curious why you didn't split it. I personally like using white pine for my outdoor firepit. It drys quick, starts easy, burns hot, and has a nice aesthetic look for sitting around the fire. Yea, it doesn't last as long, but it's more for socializing. Just a thought.

Build yourself a custom trailer that will be smaller than you dump trailer and bigger than your little trailer . Use 2X8's and a trailer " kit " for the wheels and the tongue . Make everything the way you want it and the amount you want it to hold . You can even make it so the one side is higher than the other to keep the wood from bouncing out but low on the other side for offloading the wood into the baskets . Dream it and make it !!

Hey Adam, I know you don’t like using the dump trailer because of the slash and debris that you have, when finished. I’d recommend cutting he lid off the bladder, then setting it on a pallet to easily move. Then you can just shovel the slash into it and set it out to pasture. Be sure to use a hole saw and cut out holes in the bottom. Don’t know how big your trailer is,…but I’d start out with at least 6.

You could build a big bin thats slanted at 30 or 45 degrees that holds a cord or more of firewood from the japa. Use poly sheets or slick plywood so the wood slides down as u empty it and stack the totes. Or get a old gravity bin wagon to modify it to work. Like cut the door side open big enough to reach all the wood. You Could even rig up a 2 or 3ft wide 110v belt conveyor to bring the wood right outof the bin. With 2 people stacking u could be processing non stop. Could make it efficient as an assembly line

Adam, how about a sloped wooden platform below the conveyer at a height easy to lift logs from to stack. If it was built at a height just above the trailer height (bottom of slope) and has a removable edge at the bottom. You could remove this edge when finished allowing all the waste to fall into dump trailer for easy removal. Hope this makes sense

You might take a look at doing a double totes to catch off the processor. That would hold enough to fill a stacked tote and not tie up a trailer. It could be placed on a stand to hold it just as high as the trailer is to cut the big bending and if it's a problem of getting the wood out due to the sides, cut them to your desire. Kimd of like Larry and Robin do plus Jake from Dude Ranch. Then add the stand to hold it for your height.

For the smaller trailer, I'd weld on some braces that you could drop your own side panels into. Then, keep your tote side of the trailer without a panel, but the other 2-3 sides will allow for a little more volume before it spills over. It will still spill over, but if the aim is to just fill one of those 1/4 cords, then that idea might be your gap fill right there

Idea. How's about using same type of IBC tote coming off the splitter raised with two or three pallets (or something more permanent later) to find the best work height for you. Where as you can grab the overflowed wood from the first tote AND to be able to grab the wood on the bottom of that same tote. I can't tell you exactly how high because I am not you. The tote you fill can also be on 1, 2, or 3 pallets high so you can load from the bottom ok and be able to stack ok on the top. You are a young tall guy so this might be useful in about 20 years! LOL!! Great system you are tuning!

Maybe you could fabricate an extension at the end of the trailer that would catch the extra needed to fill a complete tote? Something you could back up to or attach to the trailer or both? It wasn't far from being a full tote so I couldn't see it needing much. A longer trailer maybe, but using what you have is a good thing. I can see a manure spreader working about the same way, they are longer and have a conveyor to carry the debris out.

Why drop it in a trailer in the first place? You're just dumping them off your processor and then stack them by hand. Might as well dump them on the ground and then stack them. Or, if you don't want to bend down, just built some sort of giant cheap platform in place. You could even angle it, so the wood slides towards you when you stack... Lots of customization opportunities there

An idea for you to ponder for a stacking station: Make a platform out of timbers, designed along the same lines as the bucking table, with the floor just below waist height sloped away from the splitter and toward the baskets. You could make the platform big enough to fill up a single basket. This would: 1) enable you to split one basket at a time; 2) pick up the pieces without bending over or reaching too far; 3) turn right around without taking any unnecessary steps and stack the pieces in the basket. Bonus idea: Build a platform to raise the baskets so you can avoid unnecessary strain on your back when stacking the firewood.

My first thought is a “goldi locks” dump trailer in between the two you have now. If you can find one of those for cheap or free from a channel sponsor, rock on! Without a third medium-sized trailer my next thoughts were to position the empty IBC tote right up next to your small dump trailer so it caught most of the overflow and/or to cut up some plywood to extend the other sides of the trailer just a little to get you a full IBC tote worth of wood each run. I get that you’re trying to stack them up neat, but if you overflow just enough to fill the IBC tote up 1/4 way, you should be able to straighten that out & start your rows in less time than it currently takes you to pick it up off the ground. Final thought would be an assistant and set it up for two-person runs. Would any of your neighbor kids work for cheap?

I got an idea for you, why not have someone make a catch trough that slopes all the wood towards your tote stacking area, I know it is an extra bit of equipment but if you have it set up at waist height, and a platform to put your totes on while stacking then you would have to do hardly any bending, which is a positive in my book. I'd would also add that having the trough would also mean your trailers won't be beat up by falling wood so much, and also not filled with wood if you need it for something else.

Definitely I would have an inverter ran to the house with a switch for charging batteries. If you dump any not used power into the meter/grid you will get a discount or credit on your power bill. !!!

That would be a long trench up to the house

@@HometownAcres agreed solar panel placement would be key. You should look into inline pipe turbines as well. Amazon sells them cheep but there are many good options. I have one on my pond pump that charges a marine battery in a day. I am considering installing a water turbine on my gutters. If you can tap into that solar pump you will be able to generate power wile running a pump run by the sun. 0 input only output. The larger the setup the more effective. Living on an airport myself wind would be clutch. And yes turbines require more maintenance but it’s worth the 3 fold output

@@HometownAcresHi Adam. Could you install the Solar panels on the roof of the new building and have them charge a battery bank which you could then use to power the pumps, the lights and charge other devices.

Fill 2 totes with 3 trailers. Downside you fill 2 totes instead of 1

Clamp on a greedy board of scrap metal sheeting to the first side of the small trailer plus another to the end to increase holding capacity. Costs nothing to try and I'm sure you own a few clamps or can borrow a few extra to experiment with.

Put some ‘greedy boards’ on the sides of the little trailer. You don’t need much height increase to get enough to fill up the rest of the tote….
