I use mischelin enduro medium and mitas with mischelin mousses , desert on the rear on my T7 rally bike (175 kg bike) , its been over a year now with full season racing, playing around and also a decent amount of tarmac riding and never ever was I concerned about speed and overheating them, 70/80 mph , changed the front once and the rear desert is still there almost as good as new, I say all it takes is a good lube each tyre change and you're good.

Michael, it's been quite a journey astride WilyCat already and I feel like we’ve only just got going. He's proven to be an absolute champi, especially in the squirmy stuff, and my admiration for him grows daily, often hourly. I'm eagerly anticipating the upcoming videos as we move forward-the buildout and setup are now fully complete. From here on out, it's all about the adventure of riding and the journey ahead! Love to your terrific tribe, Lx

Anyway, im sure u guys swapped out the mousse already but if u still dont want to run tubes, i know some adv riding instructors running the tubliss system in their bikes in the desert for years. And im thinking of using the outex tubeless kit for my dr650. Just got a flat on an adventure ride in joshua tree np and a couple weeks back and im ready to make the switch.

Taco Mike isnt a jesus of dirt bikes. Merely a new player to an old game. Good guy who makes some solid products, but the other poster is right about your mousse. There are bunches and bunches of mousse options but almost no matter what you pick, he was wrong. They wont actually last you 3k miles like he said Youll be lucky to get 1k out of the mousse and itll start to feel "flat" because the mousse is dying. Unless you pull the mousse and lube it super often

You're going to be disappointed using mousse to travel. They won't last very long. The Dakar bikes change tires and mousse almost every section. The "ton" of grease on the wheel spacer is going to attract a "ton" of dirt and sand. You two have a steep learning curve ahead of you but you'll figure it out and that's the journey to enjoy. Just don't be naive and think having expensive gear is a replacement for experience. Without experience you need to be deliberate in your actions, like securing luggage. Consider that it could have wrapped up in the rear wheel and caused a crash.
@fourwheelednomad8 ай бұрын
Thank you for sharing your insights. We've actually accumulated some experience over the past 24 years - travelling through 54 countries and covering more than 80,000 miles on motorcycles - for five of those. While we appreciate there's always oodles more to learn, we've hopefully gained some valuable knowledge along the way. Cheers, Lisa 😉

@@fourwheelednomad Sure, just going on what I see. Perhaps it's just the excitement of starting another trip. Doesn't seem like you knew much about mousse or installing it. Didn't seem like you were very confident on the bike and doesn't seem like you have a system of habits to keep your kit, and by extension yourselves safe and secure.

@@thegan9143 Thanks again for your observations. It’s worth saying that appearances can sometimes be deceiving. However, different interpretations can arise from what’s observed. But indeed, your perceptions are your reality. Here’s to perpetually embracing an open-minded, kind and positive approach. 😌
@thegan91438 ай бұрын
@@fourwheelednomad Yes I agree appearances from the lens of the camera don't give the full story. No doubt with your collective experience you'll quickly adapt to the bikes and fall back into the rhythm of travelling. My thoughts were well intended but perhaps your experiences on a bike leans more toward on road? I gather from your disclaimer that this is unwanted input as canned phases such as "we encourage open and honest... " is a way to dismiss a conversation. Final words then - Enjoy learning the new bikes, that is much of the fun to be had from the experience. BTW, you can force some lube into the wheels through the old valve stem hole, unless you drilled the rim and are running dual rim locks, though that seems unlikely and not necessary for this application. Getting lube into the wheel and letting centrifugal force move it around will help extend the life of the mousse. That said the rear mousse will last about a 100 hours depending on weight, surface and speeds. The 500 is a tall bike so I get your trepidations in turning it on the dirt. Comfort with the balance and front end traction will come with some time on the bike. Also you can feather the clutch a lot, they are very robust and slipping the clutch will prevent stalls while letting you modulate power while keeping the rpms up. All the best in your travels.
@fourwheelednomad8 ай бұрын
Thanks sincerely for your advice. We've logged over 1,500 miles on the mousses so far, and they're impressively durable. While we're optimistic they'll endure the tyre’s lifespan, only time will tell. After navigating the rugged trails of Baja with its formidable cacti, we plan to switch to tubes. Our previous off-road endeavours have been predominantly on heavier BMW dual sports bikes where we spent a significant portion riding dirt and gravel during our first Americas bike trip. While Jase has adapted effortlessly to his KTM 500, I've had a more gradual adjustment period after a five year riding gap, gradually elevating my level of confidence. However, I’m steadily improving and am chuffed with my progress to date. Stay tuned for further updates-I'm determined to rise to the challenge! Lisa
