A woman saying "I don't want to lift weights because I don't wanna look like a female body builder" is alot like saying "I don't want to get my drivers license because I don't wanna be a f1 racer. Just saying.

that’s truuuue but honestly even women who are just kinda strong/have toned arms get made fun of in our culture. People still won’t shut up about Michelle Obama’s arms. She’s not even a gym rat i’m pretty sure she just has toned arms, yet people literally call/ed her a biological man for having strong arms. 🤦🏽‍♀️ That’s what they mean, they don’t want to be treated like shit for minor deviated norms. People saying “I don’t want to get fat over Christmas” mean they don’t wanna gain 10lbs, they don’t literally think they’ll become 300lbs in a week but people do still comment/notice if you bulk up a little n i can see why there’s fear there.

My mom instilled this fear in me by telling me I wasn’t a guy when I was little. I would hardly work out with my 5lb dumbbells because of that… NOW, at 22, I’m like “screw this,” and I’m letting myself get beefy. I’ve always had a muscular build, so now I’m not fighting it. Bulking + cutting. Getting some metaphorical confused eye rolls from my mom, but never been happier! It feels amazing. 💪 edit: I don't want it to come across as hate on my family. It is just interesting how cultural norms have changed over the years. My mom grew up in the 50s/60s, which was a wildly different time from now! I definitely would have been an oddball then! @TruckerWife

Even people who build muscle extremely easy and fast (me and my whole family) don't get super beefy. A lot of people, especially women, get more toned than beefed. And yes, I realize it is not normal to naturally build large amounts of muscle very quickly, but some people don't have to work as long to do so. I take 3 months lifting, and I can get jacked. Everyone in my family is the same. I used to be anorexic, ate fast food, chips and salsa, and 3 liters of soda a day, and I was jacked and incredibly strong. All that to say, I wasn't beefed or masculine looking. Even when I got healthy and was packed with solid muscle, I never looked masculine. You couldn't even tell if I didn't flex.

Actually, based on archaeological records, vikings were pretty slender. Not only was it impossible to get buff in most ancient societies unless you were genetically gifted, being good at battle has nothing to do with how individually buff people are. Discipline and tactics win ancient battles. Ancient battles weren't like movies where 2 mosh pits run at each other, they were like chess matches and the first side to break ranks lost. That's why Spartans for example got ready for battle with gymnastics exercises, not by lifting weights and chugging pre-workout.

To be honest, this is a valid concern. I’m black and genetically I’m quite muscular already without having stepped foot in a gym once in my life. I’m really insecure about my muscular arms because they look super out of place on my petite body. I really would avoid lifting weights because I would genuinely look like a man. It doesn’t help that I already have quite an androgynous face and have been mistaken for a male multiple times in the past 😅

My advice would definitely be to stop fighting it and fully lean into it. You’ve apparently been given the gift to build muscle fast, why wouldn’t you use it? Imagine all the amazing things you could do if you worked out on top of that…isn’t that way cooler than basically just being an aesthetic? If your arms seem disproportionate to your body you could start out by training different parts like your legs to balance it out nicely. Just my two cents. I think it’s sad how women have been brainwashed into prioritizing looking weak and “feminine” over being capable.

If you're a female, you legitimately can't really get "buff" the way men are unless you're taking testosterone and lifting your ovaries off or you have some crazy genetic disorder that causes you to have much higher than normal test levels. The difference between men and women with regard to muscle building ability is probably one of the biggest differences between males and females period, it's absolutely massive. Females cannot build muscle at even half the rate of males naturally.
@dehydratedwater9000

@@xd._.28234 Women also have different bone structure and significantly less testosterone than men, which is a huge factor in maintaining large amounts of muscle mass. The chances of regular females who casually go to the gym and aren’t tracking their macros religiously getting “bulky” is next to none. (I've always admired Jean claude van damme and childishly wanted to do what he could do LOL) i really think body type and which muscle groups you choose to /know how to work out matters, and people probably refer to the certain situations where people didnt know what type sets & when, form, etc to do, and built up neck and traps or built out obliques that took away any hourglass (the supposed coveted) curves in place of boxy lines.. i think different body type awareness starting points and desired form, how the different types will probably want to work out, are not talked about as commonly, from my meager exposure. knowledge can help with the fear. exposure to different beautiful examples can help. it probably takes a little extra time to get the right info though.
