Sorry to hear about that... Wake up call for all us trailer sailers to check that important cable...

Thanks, the cable was actually only a few weeks old, so I took it for granted that it would be ok but clearly I should have been inspecting it regardless. I'll explain in the repair video but I think the unusual wear and breaking of the cable was the result of a couple of errors on my part.

That was a great video and being sucribed to both you and Chris, have been watting for you to post it. Disasters and all. I am sure that you will find the repair will be even stronger that before, I was in fear of fiberglassing, with the mine feild of difrent glasses and resions to use, but once getting started. It gets like making mud pies. I am am sitting on a island at home totaly sourounded by flood water, at Wentworth nsw. I would be doing my keel, if there was a bench to use, so I will wate, and rerun all your vidoes, and Chris as well. I am told that I am in a 14ft van untill around 21st December. I am so impressed with how far you have come with sailing, great work to you and the crew

Thanks for following our journey, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I definitely couldn't do it without my family and friends as crew. I think the repair should workout okay and as you say be stronger than before. I hope you get through the flood situation unscathed. A bit cosy in a 14ft van but hopefully it can somehow feel like a bit of an adventure.

Great Video it was nice meeting you all such an enjoyable day. Hope the repairs are not to challenging, I guess the main thing is work out how to prevent it happening again after you do the repair. I look forward to seeing more of your adventures.

It was great to meet you too. Thanks for the assistance getting the boat back on the trailer. It was a fantastic day apart from the damage.The weather has been the hardest thing so far with the repair. Too cold and wet. I'll get there though.

Gees bugger about the wire rope. Glass work is a good skill to learn.

Thanks, you're right about glass work been a good skill to learn. My biggest hurdle has been the weather in Victoria lately. I wish I had a big shed to work in.🙂

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 lol. I'm based in chch nz and got my first trailer sailer just before the chch earthquakes , had the boat jacked up on the trailer about 1 foot up on blocks while I did glass work and paint under her, aftershock hit while I was under the trailer , boat was bouncing up and down a heap , cleaned my pants out and waited a year before continuing with the work. Our boats a Loyd 6.9m similar to nolex 25.

Sounds scary as hell. Glad we don't have to deal with earthquakes here. Beautiful part of the world though NZ.

We do have a beautiful country to explore here in Australia. I feel very lucky to live here. Maybe you'll make here for a holiday some day. You also have a very beautiful country and all of Europe at your fingertips. Thanks for watching and happy sailing. If you post a video be sure to tag me. I would love to see it.

That's a bit of a bugger regarding the keel cable, does it have some rollers or pulleys that might have caused the failure of the cable? Plenty of good video's out there how to do fibreglass repairs, I'm sure you get it fixed up!

Thanks, I think I made a couple of mistakes that caused the failure but I'll explain more in the repair video.

That was a great sail! Plenty of wind and perfectly flat doesn't get any better than that. It was lovely to meet you and your family. You sailed very well considering the number of people and all their chattels on board. I'm just a few minutes away from posting my next Sunmaid project update.

Your boat will go a bit quicker if you get some tension on the helyards. Also jib should be set to stop ba k edge flapping, maybe move the gib sheet cars forward to pull down a bit on the back of the sail. Boat looks great, can't wait to get ours out on the water soon.
@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4

Thanks for the tips. I need to take a closer look at getting the halyard tension set correctly. Sometimes it seems easy to get good tension and other times there's a bit of slack that doesn't want to take up. What boat do you have and where do you sail?

@@VentureOffroadAustralia4x4 . I'm lucky and have a winch for the jib and main halyard on the cabin top near the cockpit. Really like your vids keep them coming.

Thanks, we're having a lot of fun learning to sail and making the video's. I reckon a halyard winch would be very handy.
