Exactly. Some men will not allow for a rational thought. He got violent on three instances and suddenly at the end has a rational conversation about their future daughter. Ryle would be lovebombing their daughter and manipulating Lily. Especially an alpha male neurosurgeon. What neurosurgeon would handle a hot oven with no mitt?

The part y'all were talking about, about how did she let herself get finessed by him as a smart strong woman, is excatly what they were trying to show. So many people think of victims of abuse as being weak, meek, women who have nothing realy going on. And that's not always the case. Abuse comes in all shapes & colors & sizes so to speak. I was a very strong, independent woman who was super picky about any man I dated. And never in a million years did I think i'd find myself in an abusive relationship. Cut to me being about 28-29 & finding myself in my first (and only!) abusive relationship. It stayed 5 years. I was the primary bread winner, I owend my own car, I paid my own rent, I didn't "need" a man like so many women of abuse, so i'm not your stereotypical "abuse victim". that's one of the few things I did like about this that it shows anyone can become a victim/survivor or abuse.

It's a lot easier for her to make a clean break than the average person. Her ex is a neurosurgeon, so child support wouldn't be an issue even if her mother is independently wealthy. She owned her own business. His family took her side. And to boot, she had an attractive guy waiting in the winds. He even owns his own business. It would have been more interesting and realistic if they struggled for money or he kept her financially dependent on him. He also does an about face at the end without being threatened with legal action, getting arrested, or at least being exposed as violent in a public way.

The book is in fact NOT better, the book is terrible but (in my opinion) it’s The Room of Bad books 🤣 in the book, the flashbacks are portrayed as journal entries, except she doesn’t want to be cliche so her journals are written as letters to Ellen Degeneres, no I’m not joking; in the book all of that ambiguity of “did he slap her in the eye, was it an accident?” Is not there, she straight up acknowledges that he slapped her in the eye, pushed her down the stairs, etc, but he basically sweet talks his way out of it in a cartoony way; also this multimillionaire neurosurgeon is only 30 years old in the book, and that huge surgery that they briefly mentioned in the film (right before he burns his hand) is, in the book, a Ben Carson-style separation of conjoined twins. This book is SO goofy I’d love a book review on it🤣🤣

One recalls Joe Queenan’s remark about bad books. 🤣

There weren't enough MarDevils, tornadoes or Victor Newaman's screaming "You got that!" to be on par with American soap. I can't get over Jane The Virgin's Rafael Solano directing himself and starring as an abuser. I understand the power of the story, but it is a bracing character shift.

I couldn’t imagine wanting to be around any man after that, unless they were my kin or a police officer. Horrible decisions all around. 22:45 ITS KYLE WITH AN R 😂 literally me.
@DonPetrushka4 ай бұрын
Well, I don't think so. She needed protection and support. It was obvious she'd run to him. But it ain't explain why she let Ryle back into her life after a while just to eventually tell him "we have to divorce". She wasn't that stereotypical victim of domestic violence who would keep eating dirt as long as possible. She was quite sure to leave him after she realized everything, so she should've stayed this way till the end. And if they needed to show us those words of her "imagine your daughter tells you her husband assaulted her, pushed her down the stairs, etc… what would you say" they could've put them on some different setting. A phone call, or a meeting at some neutral place, idk, but not in the nursery sitting together and cuddling their newborn kid. I felt insecure about that scene and thought he could go mad and do something to her or to the kid
@leila45094 ай бұрын
This particular story would have made more sense if she were much younger-perhaps she could have inherited money after her father died. Her giggly, naive character could then gradually become trapped in an abusive relationship, as Ryle, being older and more financially successful, slowly erodes her confidence and makes her dependent on him. The reconnection with Atlas would have also felt more natural, as only a few years would have passed.
