Loved seeing baby Felix be born! Way to be hands off and allow mama to lead the way! Birth is emotional and intense and amazing... for both animals and people. If and when you ever have babies, there’s so much you can do for the pain and to prepare and the things you learned in supporting Elinor will be helpful too. ☺️❤️

Get big tarps and old billboard signs. Use them to cover the dirt, so it won't become mud throughout the winter. And use them to put the wood on, and to cover the wood with. Level a flat space for the wood, so it won't warp, and set it on wood cross spacers so it is not completely on the ground so it stays dry and doesn't warp. Create/ plant posts so you can rig an outdoor tarp tent to give you and your workspace a dry area. Landscape a driveway and gravel it. And gravel a path from the wood storage to your work/build area. And super congrats on Felix's birth!

I did what you guys are doing 15 years ago and the best advise I got to find a contractor was to go to the local lumber yard (not Home Depot or Lowe's) and tell them what you are trying to build and ask for contractors that would be good for your project. You would then want to further screen them but that was a good start for me.

Hi - I do work on the industrial side of construction (not residential so grains of salt should be taken), and often work with smaller contracting firms. With smaller contractors, I find it helpful to check in with them (ahead of time and semi frequently) to ensure that things (like the inspector, or another contractor) are scheduled to be on-site on X-date, which is when X-work is expected to be completed and the next step started. Waiting to schedule things, like an inspection, last minute (i.e once the work is done) either causes delays or can cost more (i.e. you pay more to become the priority to try to keep things moving). Also, in one of your other vlogs, you mentioned that the water table (level) in the soil could be extremely high in the spring. You should ask your contractor/ engineer/architect if this is a case where adding water stops at the cold joints in your concrete foundations is needed (maybe they already are specified, maybe not). Many industries use concrete tubs/pits to store water/liquid and rely on the concrete not too leak in it out (and it doesn't), but that's only if your cold joints are appropriately protected and your concrete is well consolidated/designed. Don't be afraid to ask your architect/engineer questions too. They know all the codes, required inspections, design requirements, etc. It's part of being licensed. This looks like a fun project; good luck!

If you have a spot bigger enough to put one of them rented containers that people put their furniture in,until their house is built. You could put your lumber in it,under lock a key and protected from the weather. My sister done this, while waiting for her house to be remodeled.

You guys are so fun to watch. Been there done that, and it's nice to reminisce through your struggles. You'll be fine, at least you have a Kevin. ;) I'd go ahead and order the lumber and put it at the farthest back you can for now, even if you have to move it later. Possibly if you have access to a front end loader or skidsteer, clear out another 10+ feet at the back. Just scrape down the brush, and built a elevated step hold for the lumber. Low enough for the truck to roll off, but high enough so you don't have much dirt to deal with. You can always put the pile back and reclaim the spot. Yippee Kiyaaaa!!!!

I bought a used 26" Centurion Motorhome a while back and knew it had some water damage. Little did I know the extent of the damage, I had to pull up most of the floor and one back corner was completely rotten. Many a day I dragged myself into the house, literally, in tears, it was just overwhelming. But, it is all back together now and it is better that I ever expected. Everything has been replaced, I have put my design skills to work and I just my love my tiny home on wheels. Allie, your so right, one day it will be a happy? memory!!

Glad all went well with the new "kid" (beautiful to watch), I've been a general contractor for many years and believe me, given the location of your new home, patients will be the key for your sanity. Know that one day it will all be done and the feeling knowing you two built it. Just continue to support one another and realize there will be several challenges along the way, (Looking at Allie and the way she sometimes looks at you, is priceless) the build will soon all be just a great memory. IMHO Get that material while it's still cheap, maybe store it at Grandma's place till you need it. All the best, looking forward to the journey with you.
