Great stuff man. I have so many ideas about the desk. Definitely back it with wood to Strengthen the top. You said you don't need the storage, but if you laid one of those cabinets on it's back. I see potential for a lot of axe handle storage. That Prentice vice is amazing. I think the numbers indicate plant and assembly area. At least that's what i've been told. Don't know if you want to hear this or not, but you are now a vice collector sir.

Much appreciated man!!! I have to admit I think the vice collecting bug has bitten me. I'm super excited to clean it up. I've definitely got so ideas for the desk. I'll have to bounce some of them off you!

Nice finds, In my opinion vise value depends on what you want it for. If you collect a good price is whatever you are willing to pay.. If you flip then you want a low price so you can make a bit of money. That's the way I look at it anyways..So good deal on the vise either way. Files are always a good find and I'm sure you know but a file card is a great thing to have to maintain them. The desk could have a lot of uses...My outfeed table/second workbench is an old solid wood desk that I put on a platform to match the height of my table saw.

Thank you Sir! I absolutely understand what you mean about the vice value. I'm not super interested in flipping them it's more for my own collection (guess the vice bug has bitten me). I plan on cleaning this one up and replacing my smaller Columbian with it. Speaking I'm thinking of trying the hot oil finish on the Prentiss. How big of a piece have you tried it on before? I'm curious if it's a viable option for a finish with a vice that big. I absolutely agree a file card is a must. I haven't tested any of these yet but I'll give them a good brush out first then see what I'm working with as far as if they cut well. I also like your idea about keeping the table a good height for an outfeed table for the table saw. I just have a small Dewalt jobsite saw but it works well for my tablesaw needs at the moment. I usually prop it up on a workmate so a Rolling cart is on the project list for it. When it happens I'll be sure to have those heights match. Very solid advice 👍

@@Nsvens89 I've done it on a few bigger one's. It just takes a little longer to do. I'll send you some links of ones I did and a maintenance/update video I did a while back. They might help ya decide what you wanna do.

I have. bunch of old files, many from my dad. Do you have a good way to clean them up so they cut well again? I also have a bunch of new old stock file handles from Killinger the I plan to use on these files after I get them in shape again. On the desk, if drawers were wanted, you could fabricate your own and install them on drawer slides, which are readily available at home improvement centers and hardware stores. Just an idea... Nice haul on everything.

I definitely want to use the cabinets for something. I like the idea of using some drawer slides and putting a new smaller top on each of the cabinets. For the files I've seen videos where guys sharpen them with an acid soak. Once I test these and see if they stil cut, I may give it a try if they feel dull. If I do I'll definitely make a video on it👍

Thanks for the reply. I’d look forward to seeing that video if you’re able to do it. Best regards.

Lots of cool finds! Killinger did an excellent video on old file maintenance on his channel about 3 years ago. If you didn't see it you might check it out.
