Great independent horror film with a limited budget but everything and everyone was utilized in the best ways possible. Maika Monroe is the main character and her movies tend to be well done. She has a great sense of the roles that she takes on. I recommend The Guest, Hot Summer Nights, Honey, Villains and The Education of Frederick Fitzell/Flashback. Great reaction!!

This is still one of my favorite horror movies! It's so uniquely creepy and its understated execution makes everything so much creepier! The obvious interpretation is that it's a metaphor for STD's, but I also see it as an example of dread incarnate. Because whatever those fears are that linger in your mind and make you doubt and feel paranoid, that's what this monster is like.

crimes committed under duress are punished differently than deliberately planned crimes that are not committed under duress. This film does a wonderful job of questioning the ethicacy of crime, and at what point is committing a horrible crime actually an act of self defense. The subtlety of that man v man conflict I find fascinating in this film. Passing it on is absolutely unethical, but also an act of self defense. Makes for a subject of great debate.

I definitely agree. It's interesting to think about who is more wrong: Hugh doing what he did to Jay, or Paul seemingly passing on the demon to unsuspecting victims through the prostitutes? The natural assumption is the prostitutes will pass the demon on to their "Johns", who likely have wives given the average types who solicit prostitutes. Logically speaking, this increases Paul and Jay's longevity of survival. However, unsuspecting victims will fall prey much, much quicker due to their confusion and ignorance of what "It" is. Of course, it's left ambiguous whether or not Paul actually slept with the prostitutes, or if the person following Jay and Paul was actually the demon.

This movie made me think of an episode of the 1974 TV show Kolchak: The NightStalker, called Horror in the Heights. Something was killing people in a neighborhood and it turned out to be a creature from Hindu mythology called a Rakshasa. It would assume the form of someone the victim trusted, then slowly walk toward them while making excuses for why they were there, and when it got close enough, it would grab and kill the person. I know it's not exactly the same, but that's what this film reminded me of.

What rules does it abide by, besides constantly walking towards you, cannot die and being aware of when you're trying to trick it? How much money do you have, how many people can you sacrifice, how would you fare among crowds of people, what about maintaining a job? My interpretation of the ending is that it was just a regular person walking in the background I think it only follows you when you're the active target but that final shot is to kinda simbolyze that they can never be sure. Don't know about you, but I would forever live looking over my shoulder. Just because you passed it, the terror isn't over. Paul actually played it nicely, he passed it on to a prostitute. Other than maybe a flight attendant or a commercial pilot, I think this is the best thing that you can do to ensure it will take the longest to come back to you, if it does. So because of that I think it was just a regular person there to plant that doubt on the viewer.

The fear, discomfort and especially the impotence of salvation that this film transmits makes it one of the best horror films of recent times. In addition to this masterful direction that gives us the impression in the details and also in the distance shots that they are always being followed, or supposedly followed, or that anyone could be the devil. The cursed sex transmitting curse in perpetual contamination and still, it has one of the best movie intros with that long shot. Oh, and let me hope that, if the guy had sex for love (and what love, right? Giving his life), those lost souls would leave.

Really surprised to see you react to this film, but pleasantly so. I watched 'It Follows' when it first released on disc and remember enjoying it. A simple yet effective premise. Thanks you for these film reactions, I really enjoy them, great work both of you. =)

I've only watched this once when it came out which is almost 10 years ago (nuts!). I remember very little but the moment of the big dude appearing behind the friend was so frightening to me then that I will always remember the way I felt and haven't felt like that from a movie since!

I loved the synthwave soundtrack and the unique tone but I really enjoyed the weird aspect of the vague time period. There are hints to it taking place in the 80's but also hints of technology that is stylishly advanced which is such a cool element.

The writer/director stated the film was based on a recurring nightmare he had, so the film follows a kind of dream logic with a timelessness about the production design.

Love this movie so much! Was absolutely terrified watching it the first time. Also the musical number, by Disasterpiece, really set the tone for the entire movie. So eerie and makes you feel the intensity of each scene. Epic reaction!

i love ambiguous endings, leaves for for imagination, interpretation, and debate. this is one of my favorite horror/thriller movies. the pacing is a little slow for some, and i thought the final act of the movie could have been a little better, but i love this movie. the atmosphere and score were homages to old school horror films, but the premise was fresh.Much better than big budget horror films.

i love this movie and idk why. its not like a top tier horror movie in terms of production but the idea alone of you being singled out by a unstoppable and deadly force until it gets you... freaks me out and theres really no way of stopping it
