My favorite "clue" in this movie that's easily missed: when the woman who axe-murdered her husband asks for a glass of water, when it's brought to her and she drinks it, for a moment the glass and the water are invisible - her hand seems to be empty when she brings it up to her mouth and drinks. This moment is hinting at Teddy/Andrew's aversion to water (because of his children drowning) and his mind is literally removing the glass of water from his vision. It's also a big indicator that we're only seeing what Teddy/Andrew is seeing, and it's not always true or reliable.

Never noticed that. Perhaps I'm always too distracted when she is asked about the doctor and she's describing him as being _easy on the eyes,_ when he is right there (Mark Ruffalo). Upon the second viewing it is clear she's embarrassed and giddy playing this part, and because he's sitting right there. Love watching this again and again.

I just love the fact that the clothes he wears are big on him, because they don't have his size in civilian clothing. Everyone else's clothes fit them, his are large and baggy. Another clue is the Guards are on edge of him and during the search for Rachel they're all just sitting around because they know Rachel doesn't exist. Yet ANOTHER clue is when they're doing the interviews. Every patient has a guard behind them... the only person who is not being guarded is Chuck (the Doc)

Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) did know at the end what had happened. He remembered everything and he couldn't take the pain of remembering, so he pretended that he slipped back into delusion just so his pain would be taken away. Also, a second viewing of this is worth the time. Noticing things like the guards being on edge around Leonardo DiCaprio because he's the most dangerous patient they have is great.

I'm still shocked, Leo didn't win an award for this role. In the end he finally remembered it all but the pain was to great. Because he didn't listen to his wife and get her help, the kids died. He would rather get "fixed" and not remember any of them then live knowing he's responsible for the death of his whole family essentially.

Except… he’s not responsible for his kids deaths lol. Idk why people keep saying that. He FEELS responsible but he isn’t. @Romain Lettuce we all know he's not responsible for the kids' death. But in his mind, he is. Unfortunately, when tragic stuff like this happens, people always think what if. She told him before she felt like something was wrong. So he moved then to the house by the lake. In the end, everything just became to much. He's already dealing with his own mental health because of the war, but then adding the tragedy of his wife and kids was too much to deal with, so he'll rather get 'fixed' to forget then live with the memories. Side note: Even if she got the appropriate help for her mental health doesn't mean the outcome wouldn't still be the same. Hints the "What ifs"

The bigger twist that no one has ever noticed is that they are actually creating mind controlled soldiers. There are two light houses on the island, if you put them side by side the one at the beginning and the one at the end they are not the same. My grandmother was schizophrenic and for years she thought my grandfather, her ex-husband, was trying to kill her. My parents kept an eye on her and made sure she took her medication so I was guarded from it a lot. Only once did I ever see her in a bad state when she accused me of trying to kill her too while crying. It was shocking because I was 16 at the time and never truly believed my parents when they said she was sick. I laughed at first because I found it so absurd when she accused me but then quickly realized she was serious and reassured her that I would never hurt her and loved her. Mental illness can be sad and scary at times.

You can see the way in which Martin Scorsese directs the actors so that each performance can play off for first time viewing, as well as on rewatch. Excellent choice. Definitely worth looking into the other Leo/Martin collaborations: Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street. The Revenant is another prime thing to do a reaction with. Scorsese didn't direct that, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu did. But Leo finally won the coveted gold statue for his lead acting for that. After five prior nominations, by the way. Here's some trivia knowledge for anyone reading: 1994 Supporting Actor What's Eating Gilbert Grape, 2005 Lead Actor The Aviator, 2007 Lead Actor Blood Diamond, 2014 Lead Actor The Wolf of Wall Street and 2014 Best Picture as a Producer of The Wolf of Wall Street. The saddest part is that what happened at the concentration camp really DID happen! Bodies were piled in train cars and frozen together. It was inhuman, monstrous. Veterans who were there said they didn’t regret what they did to the German soldiers.
@WesternEugenics
@WesternEugenics Жыл бұрын
Total nonsense. The bodies they found at the end of the war were caused by Typhus (a disease that spread by lice hence the shaved heads) and malnutrition caused by Allied aerial bombings of German supply lines. It's funny how wrong you are about Allied veterans also, because many renowned high-ranking soldiers actually viewed the war as being essentially pointless, a massive waste of life and that they shouldn't have even been involved in the first place. American Generals such as George S. Patton actually recorded in his personal diary that the American army had defeated the wrong enemy, destroyed a good people and that they should have joined Germany in fighting the Bolsheviks.

I seen this movie several times and just realized he didn't revert at the end, he chooses to be lobotomized basically. I never paid attention to his last words what he said to teddy.

It's so funny but when I've watched this movie for the first time I actually did not believe "the great reveal" even for one second. As the main character I was 100% sure this all was a scam and they were just trying to trick us with his story. But then some time later I decided to watch someone's video reaction. And when the very first scene appeared (with him being afraid of water, yeah) something clicked inside my head. I literally was sitting there just saying "wait... wait a minute...". I'm still fascinated by the fact that I was fooled by the movie AND by myself!

You two are literally the Best reactors and hopefully more! You know about the things you watch. You understand about history. I love you two together! Too many younger people watch certain videos because they feel like they have to and then have to reveal that they have know idea what it’s about at all. Thank You! I was never into reaction videos until I ran across you two. 👏🏻👏🏻

The cabin by the pond where the climax of the story takes place was filmed at Borderland State Park in Massachusetts. I've been inside that cabin many times. it's just an empty shell with a fireplace for bikers and hikers to get out of the rain, but the filmmakers did a nice job making it looked furnished and lived in.

One of the greatest twist endings ever and is so rewarding on the second watch because you're able to catch all the little signs that something isnt quite right. Also the ending is so crazy to me. He didn't circle back to the routine of thinking he's a detective who needs to "get to the mainland". He's well aware and would rather die being in control, than to lose himself again.

The bigger twist that no one has ever noticed is that they are actually creating mind controlled soldiers. There are two light houses on the island, if you put them side by side the one at the beginning and the one at the end they are not the same. Rachel is also real but it’s longer to explain (water and fire have deeper meanings in this movie)

Has to be my favorite quote of any movie in history “Which is worse, to live as a monster or to die as a good man?” revealing that he is faking his regression but would rather be lobotomised than live with the pain of his guilt.

I'm just gonna throw this tidbit in here: the music in episode 3 of Last of Us where Bill and Frank pass, is used in this. This movie at the end of this film comprised it with an old song by Dinah Washington called "This Bitter Earth." With this score and that song, it's one of the most heartbreaking pieces of music I've ever heard and the lyrics work so well with this movie and Last of Us that it made question if Last of Us took the inspiration from this film to use in Bill and Frank's story

I think we got sincerely distracted by Teddy/Andrew's illness to notice that Rachel was real. They kept saying that mentally-ill people are never believed. When Rachel says "You are the Marshal" I immediately knew Teddy/ Andrew was a patient - if Rachel had been missing for weeks/ she wouldn't have personally known a Marshal who had just arrived a few days before.
