Hi mate, nice to see you're happy with who you are. To go to a Catholic all-boys school must have been tough. I went to an all boys school myself... luckily I never got stick because it took me a bit longer to realise whether I was bi or not... as I still liked girls but sort of fancied boys too... I thought it might be a phase or something. I'm 19 now, mostly out and shitting myself about telling my parents. I told myself I'd pluck up the courage once I get a bf... Keep strong man! Well done :)

Tom what a great story. You seem to be reliving the times while telling it because you didn't smile much. With such a great smile you should show it more often it enhances how WONDERFUL a person you are. Best wishes for you from the states!

Thank you for making this video. Just watching it, helps a bit. I'm working to get to that place, to accepting myself fully and not being scared of how people will see me when I've come out. So yeah, thank you.

Holy hell you're attractive. That aside, your story really resounded with me, I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly. I'm glad that you ended up finding some friends who can really accept you for who you are. Thank you for sharing! I hope you make some more videos in the future, you're extremely eloquent and pleasant to listen to.

Everyone struggles with something; it's true! Sometimes people feel inadequate for some of the most misunderstood or abstract reasons. The difference quite often is if one struggles alone or if they have support. Frequently, struggles with same sex feelings are too often engaged by people that feel isolated or alone. Tom's video is powerful in how he honestly expresses his feelings and experiences. It's sad that Tom had to struggle alone at first, but finding his way to acceptance, to friends who accept him and to sharing with his family and finding acceptance are all great outcomes. Tom's message that it can get better is powerful, it's an example of how important it is to trust others and keep looking for those people that are open, accepting and loving. Thanks Tom, that was a well done video and very uplifting! Cheers!

This was a truly inspirational video mate, absolutely wonderful. I just came out in University about 2 months ago and my friends have been nothing but accepting of me. it's so wonderful to have such lovely and great friends. I haven't yet come out to my mother and I'm actually rather scared of that, more scared than coming out to my friends...but I am confident that I can do it and I am sure that she will love me no matter what. I just need to gather the courage to do it. Thank you for this vid.

I've literally watched about a dozen of these videos and I'm extremely grateful for them. I wish I wasn't so ashamed in my past to the point where I didn't even dare to seek advice or knowledge about it. I'm proud to say that I'm out and it does feel great and it does get better. You seem like you really wanted to share your story for the sake of helping other people and that's an amazing gift. You don't know how many people you're going to make an impacted on. Good on u, and best wishes to u :)

I am gay myself but I envy you for the simple fact you got all this wisdom and atitude at so young age. Yes, it gets better. When I was sixteen and it was 1997 back in Bulgaria I was miles away from where you are on this video. I came out when I was 19 but it was in fact a personality crisis. I left university because of this. I wish I could deal with my sexuality issue when I was younger without delaying it.

I know this video is now 7 years old but I still feel for your story. Firstly you were/are a brave guy. Being Gay is like have green eyes instead of blue or brown. You don’t get to choose. I think actually that you are awesome and I hope you are comfortable being you. I am Gay and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Stay true to yourself and those who won’t accept you have no place in your life. Sending love from Australia. XXXX

But as i watched it you told a story and its truly a wonderful and inspiring story. i am 16 years old and im gay but no one knows but one of my closest friends. I get asked all the time if im gay but i deny it. i wish i had a family like yours, my mom asked me if i had something to tell her one day and i said no. but i dont think my family will take it well. I hope it gets better!!

Tom I'm so proud of you and proud of your Mom & Dad. You know that you are really blessed to have such a loving family and that their love is such that even when they find out that your gay that their love for you is not diminished. I have a strong feeling Tom based on your video that you have gone through an awful lot of emotional stress and in spite of it all you have managed to keep your both feet firmly on the ground. You are so mature for your age. You inspire people by your sincerity......

You're really awesome. Like you i left my rough homophobic school and went to a different college, i wasn't brave enough to come out in school though. (In hindsight i wish i did. Be proud of who you are guys, when i came out to my best friend it was probably the most relieving and hilarious moment of my life. Coming out has made me a stronger person, and i'm now less self-concious about other things that made me feel vulnerable. If anyone does need someone to talk to you can pm me too. :)

The thing is I've come out to all my classmates and luckily enough they've all accepted me for who I am and they truly support me, some of my cousins know but I just haven't had the courage to tell my parents yet, A. because I'm afraid to get rejected and have that feeling of disappointment by them and B. because i truly cannot let my father know, he's just purely homophobic(he's was born in the 50s) :( I just hope I have the strenght to tell everyone

Bravo! I loved your video. I'm straight but grew up knowing a lot of LGBT adults. When I first heard of people having negative reactions to LGBT individuals, I was shocked because some of most caring individuals who were around when I was a child are gay. There is nothing wrong or abnormal about being gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, transgendered or straight. Loving someone is never wrong. Hate and ignorance are wrong. Tom, stand tall & be proud of who you are; I love & accept you unconditionally!

What took you a while to learn, Tom, is that generally people will act like you expect them to act. We give off non-verbal clues, and people respond to them. When, after those false starts, you gained some confidence in yourself and expected others to accept you and it worked. Congratulations for coming out at 15. It took me until I was 25 or so before I worked up the courage to be myself. Yes, it does get better.

When the Beatles first apeared on film and T.V. in the early 1960s, their "scouse" accents were very noticeable, even to Liverpool people, as so called "standard English" was considered the norm for the media, or authority figures. Ah well...
