I so admire this young man’s courage. To my mind, one’s sexual orientation is similar to being right- or left-handed. Irrational homophobia causes so much psychological suffering and pain (as in Jacob’s case). This young man is NOT one of the world’s problems, but homophobia IS. On the EVIDENCE of the science of the matter, Jacob can no more change his sexual orientation than any of us can change the colour of our skins. With this I send a special comforting hug for you, Jacob.

But can he love himself after all the negative Christian indoctrination? Christianity is so removed from what Christ intended. So mean and narrow and heartless and just plain Godless.

The biggest problem is we've been told for our entire lives by the majority of society that we are wrong or improper. It's what makes it hard or awkward to say "I'm gay" even to ourselves. Time makes it easier to say that and be our true selves. It's truly amazing how many people really don't care, when you think about it. Maybe that was just my experience but I never would have imagined that of everyone I've told (many people), not one has been unkind or taken a distaste to my presence. I'm glad you're able to be out and true to yourself!

I loved this video so much Jacob and I love you for making it to help others. In fact a week or so after watching it I came out on social media, first day of June, Pride month. I am 56 years old and knew I was Gay at 15 but due to some traumatic events in High School I stayed in the closet for 35 years. Came out to family at 50 and my best friend from HS at 55 and now everyone else at 56. Best thing I ever did. A huge weight lifted off my shoulders, finally being me for the first time in my life, out and proud.

Wiping the tears from my eyes as I type. Thanks so much for being so open and honest. I got the feeling this wasn't originally meant to be shared publicly. Greetings Jacob from Nice in the South of France 🇫🇷 I've just watched your very touching coming out video and I just wanted to let you know that you are a beautiful human being and you deserve to be loved, and you must never put yourself down and never for one minute think that you don't deserve love. And if people can't accept you for who you are that is all on them and not you. I remember before I came out to my very religious family while I was at college and away from home and actually contemplating suicide and reading up so much about ending my life as for year's I was taught that being gay was so wrong especially within my strict Muslim faith and I was so incredibly heartbroken that I was going to die in my college apartment al alone. And to this day I really can't remember were I got the strength to go home one Saturday and tell my parents I'm Gay and I love them and hoped that their religious beliefs would allow them to love me back as I did them. Anyway 1 year later I'm still here a much happier person and feel so good that my ultra religious parents accepted me for who I am, we hugged and cried so much and for the very first time in my life my father told me that he loved me and his love for me was far more important than what religion had taught him. Watching you coming out brought all the emotions I felt rushing back to me, and I really just wanted to hug you so much. Just watching this made me cry and has shown me already that you are a very special person and I wish you all the love in the world take care and please accept my virtual hugs for across the miles 💕

Jacob, I could have made this exact video back when i was your age but there was no internet, no real videos, no real way of "coming out" like this. I too hated myself, prayed/bargained with God to take it away. Of course that's not possible. Growing up back then was so different than now so I never came out. Never have found that love, never will. Sex with a woman is not who or what I am. So sad and so depressed all my life as a result. I am proud of you and for you and wish you nothing but the best!

Jacob, you are a very brave, loving, strong, and caring person. I absolutely understand your terror in not being able to get "that" feeling to go away. I am NOT out and hate myself every single day because I cannot defeat this feeling. I have thought of suicide, but rejected that idea as weak. But, I am so happy that you are free and able to release a pressure that confined your heart for so many years. When I am brave enough, when I can love myself ... I, too, will be as brave as you. God Bless

Reminds me of my first couple of coming out videos. It's so much better that your time to come out was 16 years earlier in life than mine. Awesome.

Great! You are amazing!!! It took me 24 years to come out, and it's true there are family, and friends who don't want you anymore, but most people do...I love you! Your message is great!!!
