ABOUT US:
Jupiter² was built in the Philippines by an Australian designer for Jamie. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time.
Hopefully some inspiration to "Quit Job and Go Sailing".

There are 3 types of sailors. 1. the ones that sail and run aground 2. the ones that sit at the bar an talk about how good they are. 3. the ones that lie that they have never run aground.

Clever video testing the limits of the rudders, adjusting the depth sounder settings, and having enough sense and patience to let the rising tide take care of the grounding problem.

Great video, your boat is a great design. After watching Sailing Into Freedom run aground and sinking (I cried for them) it made me wonder how your cat would handle a similar situation. Does the Mumby have enough isolated crash boxes? Is there enough floatation if you fill a hull? Could you still float/sail with a flooded hull? Made you have said in the past? How do you think your hull would hold up if you were being pushed up onto a reef like Freedom was?
@SailingLifeonJupiter
@SailingLifeonJupiter 3 жыл бұрын
I think we would definitely fare better Sabret. Ally is much stronger and more flexible than plywood. If holed, we have floatation bow and stern. I'm not sure what condition Pluckys boat was in.

I would check to see if you have any play in ruder bearing(they are composite) and they wear first. if they wiggle next hall out replace them.
@SailingLifeonJupiter
@SailingLifeonJupiter 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I got wiggle DC... Needs an epoxy injection to thicken them up again.
@dc1544
@dc1544 3 жыл бұрын
@@SailingLifeonJupiter oh so yours are different than other catamarans. they have to remove ruder then bearing replace. When you do it include in your video for all. even if someone else does it that way everyone gets to learn.

as usual good video. and smart move. (moving weight forward would have been an option too). (done that boat loads of times!!) wondering. who runs aground more often? brave cats pilots, pushing their luck? or mono's not paying attention? (I haven't noticed too many mono's pushing their luck intentionally). what's your take on it?

If you would have built your boat out of lightweight composite material like what Schionning does, would it be heavier or lighter? I'm just trying to compare the weight difference and performance aspects of aluminum verses other lightweight materials. The price on your boat sure does beat what other performance catamarans charge for their catamarans and that's a positive for me. How did you find out about this type of boat? It seems like you were one of the first to get one.
@SailingLifeonJupiter
@SailingLifeonJupiter 2 жыл бұрын
Ally ends up lighter for a 40+ foot boat.. But depends on the design and scant lings. The Mumby is 4mm hull plates where as the Explocat is 8mm I believe.... Twice as heavy! There are about 50 Mumbys floating around.
