It's normal to feel like you're feeding all day. It's mostly because you are not used to it. BUT, this intensity usually only lasts for 3-4 months. After that, your body regulates it's milk production, baby gets to be a pro at breastfeeding. Newborn's are INTENSE. Revel in it. Cry. Lean on your partner. The rule of child raising is that YOU ALWAYS FEEL LIKE IT WILL LAST FOREVER, then it changes. Then you feel like the next stage will last forever. Then it changes. They keep you on your toes. Children are your ultimate teachers! They keep you in practice. love love love. and big love to you three!

Hi Mimi :) The feeding time is absolutely normal! The first two months of my son's life, I spent in the breastfeeding chair. He was literally eating for hours, sleep while eating even. Babies feed not only because they are hungry. They find comfort in this. They have been inside you for 9 months, so now this is the only world they know :) When my son became 3 months old, he became stronger and more aware of everything around him and he started feeding every 3-4 hours for 10-15 minutes. Babies feed when they are thirsty, hungry, afraid, they need their mother :) So be patient and happy for this connection you have, this is the best present you are giving your baby :) In a couple of months you will miss this :) You are a great mom!

Milena Tsoncheva yes, sure! They are much worse than bottles! there are so many babies who died due to pacifiers and due to plastic bottles! How can baby want it, if you never gave it a try! and your nipple is available all the time! Milena, just learn fysiologie of the baby! Then hopefully you'll understand what I meant.

irina mardari What a stupid comparison! My both kids stopped using pacifier themselfs when they were between 6 and 7 months. One of them talks a lot, other less. And the daughter of my gilfriend, who did not give her a pacifier, is getting 3 years next month and can's even say mama and papa yet and she is very unstable emotionally!

Most women are capable of breastfeeding their babies, but some choose not too because it's a hard commitment, especially in the beginning. women are too busy these days for various reasons, and don't put baby first. I always made breastfeeding and my babies first priority for the first year of their lives!! Giving baby the best start makes for a happier, healthier, smarter child in the future. Mimi, if you feel like you're not producing enough milk; my go to was fenugreek drops, brewers yeast, and mothers milk warm tea!! The warm tea before nursing or pumping will relax you and you will produce more milk quickly!! Be patient, what you're going through is normal!! It's hard to breastfeed baby in the beginning but easier as baby becomes more of an experienced nurser!! :) traveling with breasts are much easier then traveling with bottles :) Be patient, and positive; you can do this!!!

poop stick, cute name! haha Hey no shamming here; simply encouraging!! I had nursing problems too, and most friends would suggest giving baby formula; I didn't want to hear that. What I wanted to hear was some encouraging advice on how to continue breastfeeding! Of course, firstly do the best you can, and if that fails then you can always say you tried, and move on happily!! Only the parents that didn't do a very good job parenting get offended or feel shammed by my words!! again no one is perfect; but that doesn't mean we should give up!! perfection is achieved by never giving up; even if the route is bumpy!! :)

I think you're overreacting! I think she was just being encouraging and saying that there's nothing wrong with curly, frizzy hair, since a lot of women tend to think it's too messy or not nice. it's just a word of positivity! like, you know when you try on something and you don't think it looks good, but your friend will always tell you, "no, it looks great!", I think that's more or less what she's trying to say. :)

She never said she doesn't trust professionals. Mimi and Alex just have their own opinions and i would say they consult different sources of information every time they have to sort out something, like articles, friends, family and some professionals. Also, Alexa is a newborn and when you have your first child i'm sure you feel a bit nervous and insecure in general, and specially if you haven't been around much babies as Mimi said about herself, so it's normal that they trust other's advices, including professionals.

First time mom here. My baby is 4 weeks today and the first few days I almost went to formula it was so stressful. I'm thankful I didn't give up now but I know how hard it can be. No one should judge anyone for this. Someone gave me a tip that when a babies hands relax they are full and might just be sucking for relaxation and they don't need to continue. Maybe that's why it went on for an hour? You can put a finger in her mouth and if she unlatches she is good. If she is hungry again she will let you know!

This is one of my first comments ever on KZbin, but I had to say something... I'm puzzled with all the negativity in the comment section! my child was born like a week before Alexa and I can totally emphasize with her and what she is feeling. Yes it is true that her life is way better than the majority of us but that doesn't take away her right to feel the things she feels. In my opinion it doesn't matter how many books you reed, how much you get informed, being a new mom is harder than you may initially think. If you didn't grow up around little children, and took care of them while you grew up that is no way for you get the full picture, and even then it would be challenging.People saying that she shouldn't talk about her frustrations because she is privileged are not making any sense, there are ALWAYS people that have it worst than you! And although you should acknowledge that, what is the point of playing the "who as it wrost" game?! If you are raising your children in country where there is no work (no money) but some human right you're still better than, the woman raising 4 children alone in a poor country where she has no voice, and this woman is still better off than the one that saw her children being murdered in front of her and then made a sex slave and raped by dozens of men. I know this is terrible to ready and I'm sorry for that, but that sadly still happens... Just trying to prove a point, if you see reality for what it is at the end of the day no one can complain because somewhere around the globe that is always a person living a harder life. Just stop being so negative, let people be true to themselves, talk about their feelings, heal and be better. Please stop disregarding what other people might be going through, it's their struggle, their individual battles. You don't need to understand it, if you don't, at least respect them.

I'm already so used to see the negative comments here for mimi that I don't even read them anymore. But you know what I realized? The people who comment negative things here are also the one's who never miss any of her new videos. They watch EVERYTHING so they can complain here later and put it out all the frustrations of their life in one comment by trying to make mimi feel bad and stupid. So I find it kinda weird.
@AuraVitoria
@AuraVitoria 7 жыл бұрын
Heah it's weird, it's like they try to empower themselves by making someone else feel bad, but the truth is: they are the ones who lose in the end. That kind of mindset just makes them more miserable... I guess it's like a dog chasing it's tail. It's sad really... Nobody is perfect, and I truly think Mimi is doing a great job. I honestly felt empowered by the video because although being a mum is the greatest blessing, you have to adjust to so many things that sometimes you feel like you are losing yourself in the process. Your child should always be a priority, but if you don't take care of yourself you end up frustrated and bitter, and that's not the feeling you should be passing on

Aura V Agree with you! I gave birth a few weeks earlier too and let me tell you - the first few weeks for a first time moms can be very challenging! it is such a change in ur life not to mention the hormones that r all over the place. postpartum anxiety is very real. I think Mimi does great job taking care of herself and the baby. I can relate and I know it s not easy. Now in order to reduce the nursing time I think a pacifier can be a good think to try and help stretch between feedings. also sometimes when I go outside with my baby and I dont feel like breastfeeding in public I just pump some milk prior to the walk and give my baby a bottle witb my breast milk.

A mama of teenagers here! You are doing a great job with her! Wish they came with a manual on how to do it right, but really there is no right way. She will get better at feeding and you will get better at knowing exactly what she needs and wants. Parenting is a learning process. It teaches us so much that we didn't know. Live in and love these moments with her now cause you will blink and she will be getting ready to go to school, blink again and she will be grown. Take it one day at a time. Learn as much as you can from others. Surround yourself with other mamas young and old who can help give you advice. Keep on getting up every morning and making yourself beautiful and head outside as much as you can. Baby blues are a real thing don't discount them nor feel embarrassed by them. And always remember "this is just a season, the season will change soon enough"

I totally feel you on the intensity of having a child. My daughter is 2 years now, and I dont have enough words to express my gratitude and love for her, but phew it can be so hard. I have always been alone with her, and she was not a fan of sleep the first year and sometimes I wonder how I survived. In the beginning I had a lot of pains with breastfeeding (blisters, infections) but I am SO glad I pushed through and kept doing it. It does get easier!!

Hi Mimi ! I'm 21 so I can't judge anything of being a mother. However my mom used to tell me that she wasn't able to breast feed both because she didn't have milk and also because I was not collaborating 😂 I grew up with formula milk and soy milk ! I am totally fine now, I go to university and I'm a very healthy girl. I am very bond to my mother anyway. If you don't feel right breastfeeding I don't think you should force yourself , I imagine it is very stressful, but not breastfeeding will not make you less of a mother. Sending you lots of love and support 😘❤️ kisses from Italy

EMILY BARTOSKI You are absolutely right. You either hear that you bond better or that breastfeeding is better for them. If the baby is thriving on formula then I see no difference. Also what a mother eats goes into the milk. I never breastfed and my daughter is almost 30 and fine. She tried breastfeeding with her 2 and 3 year old and again with her 4 month old. Just didn't happen, no big deal.

Mimi, i hope you read this. Breastfeeding IS NOT supposed to take 8-10 hours a day. Especially not when Alexa is 7 months old. It should not be more than maximum 30 minutes. That too is rare. Usually it should only last 10-20 minutes per side. I am talking from my own experiences and experiences of my family and friends. And now that Alex got this procedure done, please give it a few weeks until she learns to feed normally and with less time. If she continues to take as long as she does now. You should get it checked again because it should not take longer than 10-20 minutes. Plus, do you know when she gets done from one side? Like can you tell if she is actually sucking out milk or if she is just sucking on am empty breast? Because in my case i only produced 10 minutes worth of milk on each side and my baby would just suck on an empty breast for as song as 45 minutes. It took me months to realize that she wasn't getting anything out after the first 15-20 minutes

That's great :))) I really really enjoy watching you and Alex and now that you have Alexa I could watch you for hours and never get bored :DRegarding breastfeeding- you are doing great job Mimi, keep it up! It definitely gets easier with time. My daughters are 4,5 years and 9 months now and they were exactly like Alexa- always looking for mommy's boobies ;)) They didn't want to drink out of a bottle so it was not possible for me to go out alone for more than an hour without my daughters screaming for milk. As a new mom I was also surprisedt that breastfeeding can take so long and remember saying to my husband that it's a fulltime job after I calculated how many hours does it take in one day and night in total. Sometimes I felt overwhelmed and I thought it will never end but it will end. I promise. It didn't discourage me and breastfed my first daughter for 20 months. When she was 7.5 months old I was able to go back to work and to normal without pumping milk as she simply ate another food whan I wasn't there. Now I definitely don't want to stop until Helena is 1,5 years old as I can see how healthy and smart girl is my older daughter and I'm glad that I've made the decision to breastfeed her. It was a big commitment but so worth it! You have the right atittude as you know that it's the best you can do for Alexa at this stage and choose to do that despite the difficulties. Brave mom! You may not believe it right now but I've been there twice and I can tell you-time flies by so fast that you won't have this problem in couple of months anymore and will sometimes regret hat this tiny little baby that wanted to cuddle 24/7 is not there anymore when you will have a toddler ;)) Alexa will get more and more aware what is happening around her and interested in other things when she is 3-4 months old. She will also get better and will feed in 15-20 minutes, you can be sure. Later, when you have introduced solids, someone else will be able to replace you with giving her food. I almost can't belive that my little Helena is 9 months now and I can be outside for 8 hours a day. So enjoy this time, relax, reed books or listen to the audiobooks when you're breastfeeding and remember that being a parent ALWAYS means different challenges, also when the children get older. Kisses from Poland, love you!

Mimi Ikonn u r not alone. Breast feeding can lead to mental breakdown, it really helps to complain n rant about it as much as u can. Especially when you r a working woman, it takes away your independence. If u r sad about it, try pumping or even formula. I remember doctor telling me to quit everything and go on nursing vacation n I did not wanted to do tht. I started pumping n it lasted for 8 to 14 weeks. But doctor saw what was coming n she begged me to get formula. U will find ur life so much better n no it doesn't do anything bad to ur child. My baby is happy n healthy n all those nice things n NO IT DOES NOT EFFECT Your BOND With the baby, it can actually make it stronger as u r more happier n u can deliver that, have skin to skin time instead but for ur n Alex 's mental peace try formula. I honestly think breastfeeding is easier when u r mentally aware tht u r always gonna be home n no work with lots of family to take care of u r talk to u. But the kinda lifestyle u have it's always gonna be challenging. Not tht u have a bad lifestyle but give urself a break n baby will be full for more hours also as breastmilk is thinner than formula. Good luck 👍👍👍

harjeet Nahal actually mothers milk is so much better for the baby instead of formula. The imune system will be better if you breastfeed thats for sure. there is nothing more natural than giving your baby the breast and thats the natural way of bonding. ITS JUST THE BEGINNING where it is hard. My son is 6 months old now and breastfeeding is so much easier now because i know when he is ready to have some more milk (which is every 2 or 3 hours).

Thanks for posting this video! My son went through the same thing - he had his lip and tongue tie removed after 5 weeks of very painful feedings. It was such a difficult time in my life as I was constantly in pain and feedings would sometimes last an hour (but I actually had to unlatch him most of the time and cut feedings short because of the pain). After a few weeks of getting the procedure, I healed and he learned how to use his tongue/mouth much better. He's now 18 weeks and feedings are much shorter and painless. So yes it does get better - much much better! I also had the support of a positive partner who helped me when I felt I couldn't go on. We sacrifice so much as mamas but our hearts are full as we look at our little ones and know we are growing a miracle! Xo

Also for the record: my nipples were ripped to shreds and bleeding like crazy! I cried and cried. It's so good to find other new moms and get a network for yourself going that are going thru what you are that TRULY get it. It's ok to cry! It's ok to complain! You can still be thankful, and cry and feel alone some days. 🙏❤️

It is very normal for feeding to consume most of your days for the first few months. She is growing SO much every day, breastmilk digests very quickly, all normal! Both your and Alexa's health will benefit in the long run, and it helps having such an amazing partner supporting you all the way. ❤️

Mimi as a breastfeeding Mom of three I highly recommend you get a baby carrier like an Ergo. You will be able to feed your baby anywhere hands free. It's easy to get on and off. It's how I was able to feed my kids, get things done, run after my older kids at the playground, etc.... I've even used it at many school meetings, parties, vacations, museums, theme parks, the grocery, restaurants. It will make your life so much easier. You guys are doing a great job. Good luck!

Too much positive is annoying. Alex is annoying and not realistic. It's normal to feel depressed, blue, anxious, or frustrated when you are a new Mom. We can still be thankful about our life circumstance, but be having a tough day. Alex, don't remind your wife about being positive, just empathize with her, ok ?

Hi mimi breastfeeding does get easier but for ur sanity (after Alexa gets the hang of breastfeeding since her lip tie removal) u should try introducing a bottle just so u can get a break! It's probably one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's gives me some ME time. If u decide to do it, keep in mind she might not take the first bottle u introduce, u might have to try a few different ones. And I noticed she doesn't use a soother is that right? Just a suggestions (not telling u what to do so people don't freak out) if Alexa just cries sometimes for no reason u can try a pacifier. It's human nature babies wanting to suck on something. Be patient. Everything gets better. Every stage has its challenges though so be prepared! U have a good support system. Take care :)

Oh and if u decide u want to introduce a bottle u should look into these two pumps. The medala and the lansinoh double electric pump. Almost everyone I know uses the medela but I use the lansinoh. It's a double electric pump and it works amazing. But it's $160 Canadian instead of $400 Canadian for the medela lol. I needed a cheaper but efficient option. A ton of good reviews on the lansinoh! Hope this helps. :)

Hey Riri, absolutely we should be very understanding and recommend alternatives if things aren't working well, but bottles and pacifiers can actually be even worse for breastfeeding in terms of nipple confusion. There is no reason why you should need to top up with formula for a normal healthy baby - your body makes more than enough if you are breastfeeding on-demand! Things will regulate and get better.

+Lydia Boon my daughter gets very fussy sometimes closer to the end of some feedings and won't latch so that's why i top her off and I find it works very well for us. As for nipple confusion babies are smarter than we think lol, she will be fine. I just choose a slow flow bottle nipple so my daughter still has to work for it.

Hi Mimi, I'm a mom of two kids, girl and boy. I breastfed both of them through the first year. I can tell you, it was the same experience with both of my kids as what you're experiencing with breastfeeding. I felt like ALL I DID was breastfeed my baby, ALL DAY LONG! It was easier with the second baby, but with first, I breastfed her through, blisters, cracked and bleeding nipples... Please don't stop! It will get easier, I promise :-) Nothing is wrong, it's all normal. She is not only eating, she is soothing herself while breastfeeding, she is using you as pacifier too. I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE GOING THROUGH! I've been there and I was asking the same questions you're wondering about, like when it will end?! It will get easier and believe me you will miss this time! It will get better with each month! At 3-4 month, you will start to introduce her to juices and soon after solid foods. You can try to pump your milk and introduce her to bottle. She may not like the bottle at first, I can tell you, she will fuss and cry even. She will be confused and will prefer a boob over a bottle, you can't blame her though. But will get used to it. It will give you a bit of change.

I breastfeed my son for 1 year and I NEVER had blood or blister! It's not normal to be in pain when you breastfeed and it's not me who say that but all doctors or midwives I saw.. If the baby position is good you don't have pain. For the 1h hour breastfeed it depands of the baby. My son was a fast one. In 15 min when he was very little it was good and after it was mabye 5 min.

I used to dislike breastfeding I would cry and be in a lot of pain. What I didn't realize is that I needed to change my attitude about. I was so worried about if I was doing it correctly or if my baby was eating enough. The minute I did that I experienced the best and my milk came in and most of all I had a happy baby. Also breastfeding for a hour is normal. Breast milk is mostly water and gets digested super quick formula sit in the stomach. I successfully breastfed for 1 1/2 years.

What if your milk is not enough, heavy or thick (enough calories) for her? But if she is growing and gaining weight I wouldn't worry about it, also if she is not waking up at night as much to eat she is making up for it during the day.. Yes motherhood is hard but so rewarding and I tell myself babies are little for a short time. Don't feel bad when you complain because when there's lack of sleep and frustration with breastfeeding then we get emotional. I would say after three months it's easier don't give up! When they get older the bond is stronger and it's hard to quit breastfeeding after lol. My son woke up every two and three hours at night until I stopped breastfeeding it was hard but now I miss it. My son used my breast as comfort so I made him take a pacifier at three months. So you can try giving her that to soothe her. Maybe try pumping and giving bottle to have break? I kno some moms breast feed and do things lol it's a talent. Yes I understand you I was born in Soviet Union too and came to Canada when I was one. Life here is much easier than when our parents lived.

I've learned so much about babies just by seeing my nephew grow. One thing I wanted to suggest is when you guys are massaging her mouth her eyes are upwards and she's looking back wards doctors and friends who have kids always said not to make sure babies and infants are facing up like that because their eyes can roll back. Pointing it out Bc I saw it was a long period of time. It may not be big deal to you but just something all moms and doctors told us over so many years! Hope baby Alexa continues to grow happy and healthy

Hey Mimi ! I'm a mom of a six month old and I just wanted to tell you... not only it gets easier but the very very weird part is that you're gonna miss those long feedings! See it as an extremely short period of your life where your baby teaches you to slow down, truly live in the moment (only babies and children truly live in the moment, we adults keep forgetting to do it), take the opportunity of the feedings to read, breathe, meditate or just think. The most important lesson I learnt these past 6 months is that babies change so quickly. Days can go slowly but months go really fast. And when you have breakdowns (wich is the most natural thing), go take a nap or a bath and start fresh. Hugs to your precious family!

I breastfed all of my 3 children. I remember with my first child feeding for about an 45 minutes to an hour each time too. And it seemed like constant feeding too. Sitting there for that long was so difficult, but I learned to just go with the flow. I think that my breastmilk did not flow that well. I had difficulty pumping milk too. I produced enough, just not much came out at once. It was the same with my other children as well. Sorry, it didn't get better until they started eating solid foods. I did find that it got easier psychologically when I just figured out how to adapt my life to feel like I wasn't just a feeding machine. My husband helped a lot by just being available to take the babies when I wasn't feeding so I could just stand up even! 😂 So, you and Alex are on the right track with him carrying her and being responsible for other types of care. The daddy bounce is magic! You're doing great! 👍🏽

Your feelings of breast feeding towards the end of the video are so common and valid. I've had four kiddos and those beginning months felt like all I would do would be doing was nursing them. I read books out loud while I nursed, watched movies, talked to family over the phone, had friends over to visit and do what I could to help keep myself from going crazy. Meditation helped too. Get out whenever you can, keep your end goal in mind and count your blessings. 😘

My little one would feed for hours and then throw out everything he drank, it's really sad, then I started using the pacifier and it got better, I feed him with one breast for 10 to 15 minutes and then burp him and then the other breast for another 10 minutes and he would fall asleep and then I stick the pacifier into his mouth and falls asleep. I think you should try it too

My son had allergies as a baby and was constantly feeding to comfort himself because his tummy was always gassy therefore giving signals that he was always hungry. He grew out of his allergies gradually eventually 😊

thanks for sharing the details, Mimi. For other reasons, I had problems while nursing my babies and it was sometimes hard to find the support I needed. But beyond that, I had never heard of the tied lip/tongue issue and I'm VERY glad to know about this and what you wise parents did about it. When my own children are parents, every little bit of extra knowledge will be a blessing - thanks for being part of this blessing!!

Alex i agree with you to a point but if something is not working. its ok to try something different. life is about finding with works for us. Breastfeeding is amazing if it works but if you're spending your whole day breastfeeding..its not working and that doesn't make you a failure.

And think of all the mums (it was my case) who are all day long alone because their husbanda are at work. at least you have Alex who cooks for you while you feed her and helps with everything.
