Every State needs a Task Force like this! My abuse of alcohol started in 1996, then prescription pain pills came into my life in 2000 after surgery. It started slowly as a recreational drug. Then I was severely injured in 2007 and referred to a pain management clinic where I was prescribed OxyContin and Oxycodone. My habit went from recreational to wrecking my life! I decided to do something about it because I still had to work as I’m a legal professional. I was prescribed suboxone in 2017 and took that for 3 years. I tapered down to 2 mg and I couldn’t stop taking it. I was sick of it! I got down on my knees late one evening and gave my problems and myself to God. The next day I flushed it and I detoxed at home because we were in the Covid epidemic. I was blessed to get into a private rehab and my life drastically changed as a result. My sobriety date is 9/16/20 and I continually work to maintain my sobriety one day at a time.

I used to use pain pills all the time, and I never thought of it as a problem. I thank God for giving me the good sense to not continue seeking them once my connection passed away and not going into heroin. Sure, I had withdrawals for a week, but compared to what I here about heroin withdrawal, it was a walk in the park. I was at a point one time where I raided my mom's pills she got for an operation she'd had, and I kept saying I'll just have one more, until they were all gone. That was a huge wakeup call, but I still kept going after that for a while unfortunately because I loved them. At that time I was also using crack. That period was definitely rock bottom for me, but thank you God for watching over me and seeing me through without actually trying heroin or meth when they were offered, I look back and realize things could have been sooooooooooo much worse.

I've been clean about 5yrs now. I remember back when oxys came out. There was every type of opioid available. Percs, Roxie, Vicodin, oxicodone and many more derivatives. We used to joke around and call it hillbilly heroin. Ecstasy was big then as well. I'm glad I got out of the game before fent and xylizine got into the supply. Doing a bundle a day was a full time job.

It must be so hard these days for addicts. In late 90s I moved along way from home to save myself. Only way it could be done. Removed yourself from connections and triggers. America is flooded with this problem. How is anyone suppose to gain back their lives these days. So sad....

The problem is The US government is mainly Responsible for the heroin/fentanyl overdoses. I'm not taking responsibility away from the people who use the drugs because it was definitely their decisisn't but the epidemic large scale of it is mainly because of the US government. What happened was many doctors were over Prescribing opiate pain medication such as Vicodin oxycodone, Percocet, Morphine and so on. Hundreds of thousands of people became addicted to the opiate Is pain medication. The government steps in seeing a large scale addiction issue and may instantly crack down and cut off the supply of all the pain medication By limiting the amount the doctors could prescribe that instantly throws hundreds of thousands/millions of people Into withdrawal symptoms where you get sick you poop your sweating you're hot you're cold every cell in your body hurts it's horrible. So Congress in the US government decides they pass laws restricting the use in the prescribing of these medications. At the same time fentanylStarted to become widely available through drug cartelsSmuggling it into the United States in it is much cheaper but a 100 times more potent. So all these people that were sick in going through withdrawals started doing fentanyl and heroin instead of the pills because it was cheaper and easier to get. The prescription drugs were becoming outrageously expensive like up to $50 a pill when people were used to taking 10 pills A-day you can't sustainThat type of habit. Even when I was making 6 figures at work I couldn't maintain that expensive of a habit. I just quit taking them and dealt with it, thankfully for me I never went further than than pills but millions of people did, so they started buying heroin and fentanyl because it was cheaper stronger and they all started dying from it. So the epidemic is solely on the shoulders of the US government for restricting the prescribing of the pain pills. If the government would not have done that everybody would still be doing what they were doing back then and no one would be dying...... Honestly if the government was smart what they would do is they would make the pain prescription drugs legal to buy over the counter like aspirin or anything else charge $5 per pill then the people get their pills, the government gets their money and the drug companies get their money,everybody wins and no one dies..... At least not at a rate of a 100,000 a year you may have a 1000 that die a year but not a 100,000 people. In a nutshell that's what happened. That's the problem with the government they always step in thinking that they know what's best for everyone they pass laws and regulations and cause millions of people serious problems! Government should just stay out of everything in mind their own business. If they don't know what they're talking about or never experienced it are done it then they should not be passing laws or regulations on something that they know nothing about it's really that simple. I'm not on electrical engineer so I don't show up to houses and job sites and tell people how to wire Their houses and businesses. The government knows nothing about real pain, opiates, opiod addiction So they should not be passing laws and regulations on it. When the government gets involved in things they know nothing about this is what happens! If you can go to a bar and drink beer all night Or you can go to a store and buy weed or buy pills That are actually more deadly than opiate pain pills then why can't you just buy paint pills over the counter? Honestly alcohol is way more dangerous of a drug than even the opiate pain pills are Yes you can go to any store or buy and buy alcohol. Why does the government decide to regulate one thing and not regulate other drugs that are actually worse?? If you take 12 aspirin it will kill you, You can take 12 pain pills and it won't kill you and you can still drive you can still talk you can still function. You can't drink 12 beers in drive or function barely so why are the pain pills illegal but alcohol is legal? We went through the same thing with marijuana for years until eventually the government made marijuana legal if they want to stop the epidemic of drug overdoses in this country they need to make it legal to buy pain pills over the counter the deaths would stop almost instantly because people could go back to doing what they were doing before. Make it reasonably pricedSo the people can afford the pills, the government can tax it make a little bit of money off of it, the pharmaceutical companies make their money off it And overdose deaths come to a halt!!! Bad idea right there is worth the Nobel peace prize!

I am sorry for the pain you are going through. I was just talking to a friend about my husband selfishness it is a different problem but his nonsense will kill him too. I'm sorry and I know this is no consolation really. But what I told my friend who was trying to rope me back in to my husbands drama is that when people choose to do what they should not everyone around them suffers I am not to blame for this but we all suffer for it I will take the brunt of this myself so the others involved have less suffering, but I will not act like my husband is right or thank him in anyway for doing a five percent recompense for what should have been delt with five months ago and that hurts everyone every day. You aren't responsible for the choices your ex made either and no these drugs should not be around like they are. But just be your best you it won't fix everything but you can feel good about you.

I am truly sorry to hear about your ex husband and his passing. I do have to disagree with you on this point , there are many many people who are in constant pain and the only way they can live a somewhat normal life and actively is through medication. God forbid you are ever diagnosed with cancer or some other serious health issue . I have been through cancer and many many surgeries during my life . I was also born with double cleft palate and lip . All of that and the list goes on, including the two cancer surgeries “Tonsils and Lymph Nodes “ I have had 17 surgeries , oh I was also born with two hernias , one on my right side and one on my left just above my waste line. So I know that everyone is different and some people have a higher pain tolerance than others but I understand the need for pain relief and pain management. Exercise is very important as well. God Bless

@JakeTapeWallets maybe your using pain pills didn't cause this- but the company that pushed their pills onto the public, knowing full well how addictive they were, and lied about... Yes- they and their little addictive as hell pills did cause this. You're on methadone and that's great. So am I. But this was an absolute attack on society for money. They just saw money and power and went for it. One thing to think of is: when you go to the clinic, how many little old ladies and frail old men are you seeing? I see tons of them! They were not out partying and looking for a good time, "making their own decisions" as you say. Listen to their stories. They had a surgery, they have arthritis, they got hurt at work... They were people on the same oxy or Lortabs that millions of others were on, and absolutely could not get off. And you're right- people do need pain relief. But this was an assault on the public. Pills were pushed. Pill mills were rampant everywhere. "Rehabs" were giving people money to buy more pills, so they would relapse and "need treatment again"... All for the money their insurance would pay. My step-dad is getting to the point where his quality of life is so bad because of the crack down on opiods, that he wants to die. He was on pain meds WAY before this all happened. All the way back from the Vietnam war. And now they want him on freaking suboxone too. He is NOT an addict! Does he belong at the clinic? No! But because of what people in power did, using these powerful drugs, on people who did not need them, at a massive speed... He suffers... It's terrible how one company's greed affected our world.

See if you listen to all their stories, it’s always of people who take more than they are prescribed or take them to feel good. They work perfectly fine for many years if you take them as prescribed for pain. Doctors just need to monitor them safely and thoroughly.

I've been smoking fentanyl for the last 2 yrs since heroin disappeared and smoke it daily yet have never felt any high whatsoever thus obviously I've never overdosed so i don't know how these folks are ODing. I couldn't OD if i smoked 3 grams of the shit BUT i don't get sick and i run my business without any symptoms getting in my way or any euphoria at all,just don't get sick. It's necessary,( i guess) to smoke a puff or 2 every 12 hrs ,I'm not sure as i never get the sick feel I'd get from heroin after a out 8 to 10 hrs. I've wondered just how long i could go in between but haven't tested it out cuz hell who wants to get sick. I think this shit could be the best way to quit since methadone has a shitty high to it and is harder to kick than H. I just don't know what to think hearing this overdose shit. I think it must be caused by some kind of Benson their buying in their fentanyl but what i get is perfect. It's as if I'd done nothing at all. I do sleep well which must be from the fen as I've never slept well before opioids which is how I got trapped to begin with.

The stuff you're getting is weak it's simple logic
@nunyabizness5739 ай бұрын
It does affect us all, even non drug users. Employers do not want their workers on drugs, and they shouldn't be legalized for that reason alone (and many others). Drug users are anti social and they hate non drug users, they are always paranoid some non drug users will turn them in to the cops. So they ABUSE non drug users, and that is the main reason I can't stand them and I don't feel sorry for them. They start out "social" and wanting to do nothing but party and seek pleasure. But eventually they don't want to share their drugs and start fiending for their own supply only. Definitely do not marry a drug addict or have kids with them. It leads to a life of sorrow and grief. It destroys marriage. Many drugs are sex enhancing drugs so they are addicted to porn also. That's a big reason for the stigma. And yes they do commit crimes to pay for their drugs. Totally antisocial, and it almost seems like non addicts are becoming the minority???
