This was my grandpa's favorite hymn. Papa (as we called him) asked me to record myself singing it for his birthday a year or two ago. I was happy to. He absolutely loved it, and he would listen to it all the time. When he passed away in the spring, I recorded a second, newer version to play at his service.
Given that this one is half a year old and I've learned a lot as a musician since then, I had a hard time deciding whether or not to post this. But it seems like the right thing to do. Papa was always proud of us, his grandchildren, no matter what. He was always there to support me, even if it meant sitting through long recitals or musicals. Just knowing I was happy made him happy. He didn't come to my middle school piano performances expecting me to be perfect - he came because he knew it was something I was passionate about. That support meant the world to me, and without it I would not be where I am today.
Thank you for everything, Papa. I miss you.
