Reselling is my joy and hobby in life. When I was about 10 years old I found an ad in the back of my brother’s Boys Life magazine (1970)to sell all occasion greeting cards. I sold enough for a cassette tape recorder-it was my beginning and I have been a seller ever since. Cha-Ching is the best sound in my world 😊

It is not work, if you enjoy what you do. I was told that many decades ago. There are some tedious parts of it all yes. But, it is still fun. Especially finding stuff you love to sell. I found a doll this week that was the same one from the 70s. Stuff that takes you back to your childhood. I love that! I think we'll keep it going here for awhile. Have a great week

I worked at a Fortune 500 company for 11 years, they sold, and my new boss was the nemesis of my old boss, and we were a team. Sooo within 2 months I was removed for a 5-minute discretion on my timecard. Uh 11 years. Nothing makes you feel more vulnerable than 11 years of your life erased like it was nothing. Yep, talk about not worth it. I NOW have control. Like you said - as long as this is increasing, I DONT CARE. I won't eat out - buy my clothes 2nd hand - cut back on entertainment - drive a lesser car. I'm more stable than I ever have been in my life working for people who don't have my best interests at heart. I NOW have taken that authority away from others. I've made a lot of money for other people, it's my time. It's worth it, believe me.

A while back I got laid off from my Job and I had just started watching your videos a little prior to that. I have always been looking for a way to make money on my own and I definitely found this appealing. I started DoorDashing for fast money and bought 2 storage units at $10 a piece to start with for reselling (ebay, facebook marketplace). I found it to be the fastest and cheapest way to get some starting inventory. From there I would use profit from items sold to purchase more and more. Eventually it paid for everything. (Tape, Boxes, Bubble wrap, shelves, storage, personal finds, etc.) It took awhile but I built it all with only $20 invested. I am now back to my day job 5 days a week but I am not giving up on growing my business and my knowledge surrounding it all. I love doing it and it teaches you a lot about learning to work Independently. Sorry this got kinda lengthy but I wanted to say Thank You for all that you do and all the knowledge I have received from you. I truly appreciate it!

Depends on where your at. Here in so. Call everybody is a reseller. Crazy lines just to resource. But not in Central CA. Or Northern Ca. Big difference. Also, there is a big difference between your region in the states. Mid west is different from the East Coast like Florida - North Carolina. It's great if you're retired. But the new to this game will be discouraged very quickly.

I have been "losing" money every month lately because i have been stocking up on inventory. Reason? My husband plans on retiring soon, so I've been taking advantage of amazing buys with a little extra cash. These are items that will be in demand and aren't trendy. So not being able to list everything right away is not an issue.

Making few mistakes here and there and then at some point I was still making mistakes, Learning of course, But making very few dollars. So I think it around the beginning of 2021 I stopped. And then around the end of 2021? Maybe October or so. I started again and been happy with reselling ever since. I just needed a break to recalibrate my thoughts on the whole process. But for me, the biggest game changer was finding Gemini comic book mailers and it made that process so much easier

That’s a good point about highway sales. We’ve haven’t been to any yet, but planning to go to Peaches to Beaches next year. But we still like to travel to source because it’s fun and interesting . Also a good excuse for mini-vacations!

Reselling is so worth it to me, not just financially - getting out of debt and having extra "fun" money - but more so because it's time with my kids. Each of my kids trade off weeks going with me on Saturdays. We enjoy the time together, looking for stuff to sell, stuff for ourselves and then we have lunch. So I hardly consider those hours "work" like I have to make sure I make enough per hour due to all those sourcing hours.

@@valeriesantos8178 i find myself spending too much time like im an antique restorer. The money made is not worth it anymore. Way too much work and not enough pay. I might just stop.

The biggest problem I see with newbies and old timers like me we all tend to over price our products that we paid very little for, learning value is one thing and condition is everything with today’s buyers, but keep in mind everybody likes a deal just like you and me. Don’t be greedy with your pricing and at times cash flow is king versus net profits.

I started during the pandemic to make up the money I lost from second job I was no longer working. I am happy to make what I would have at that part time job I work full time, source on Saturday, draft on Sunday and them just list drafts and pack during the week have no clue what hourly is but I was in profit when I did taxes so I am happy

I started by selling my kids old toys and stuff around the house. I was hooked when I sold a singing duck (like Billy Bass). Paid 4 sold for 350. I only sell for a little extra money rarely listing more than 6 items a week. When my husband retires we may go full time. But eBay has to fix some things!!

It’s worth it for me.. I actually said it outloud to the screen when you asked. I would do it for free.. I pretty much do it for free right now as far as my sales go, and the recent influx in returns that I’ve had. This is the first time I’ve seen your videos, except you and Rod( Picking and Punching ) about VHS. You have an amazing collection. It’s packed full but organized and clean. My boyfriend HATES how cluttered our home has become, but to be honest that’s how I grew up. Hoarders really. This is my dream job to be real.. I love shopping and I love learning about the history of the items.. I love watching videos like this.. I love comp videos .. listing videos .. podcasts.. live sells.. I could care less about social media but it’s absolutely necessary. I’m gonna bite the bullet and go live here in the next few days. I have to make money, it’s not an option to give up or stop. I’ve got to list, and sell. List and sell. List and sell. I probably need to take off the 3 months of sourcing, I have a death pile that grows and grows. I’m slow as hell. But thank you for your video. I subscribed ❤ Again, you have a wonderful collection of items and every time I glance at your back ground I see something new. Nice to meet you. Sorry for the message being long. My name is Jennifer, I’m from ATL GA. @deathandtaxes ✌️Rock on.

In regards to highway sales: It does not pay for me to do them. But a City Wide is great for me! I can find way more at the prices I like to pay for an item. Plus I usually don't have to pay for a room to spend the night. Where I live highway sales don't really happen. I have been to them, but I have to treat it more like a vacation rather than out doing my job.

I have been reselling for 25 years but now I am retired from my "day job" living on a pension and Social Security. Don't really need to resell but do enjoy the extra "inventory" I pick up that can be useful to me until it sells. I do have to be careful as Social Security restricts earned income to about $22k until I'm 66 when I can earn about $56k. Tricky tricky.

There’s another opportunity cost. If part time, you are establishing a foundation of a business. A business that can be ramped up upon the loss of a full time job. Or a spouse or family member chips in full time. You don’t get that with a part time job on the side.

It’s interesting to hear people say it’s not worth it. I do not try very hard to resell. I will go to a couple thrift stores, hit a couple estates & a few yard sales every other week. I don’t do it to make a living I do it because I love to find treasures to resell or keep. I have 31 active and 39 items sold in 60 days with an average ASP of $105. Conservatively I may work 2 hrs a day MAX, which would be approximately $34 hr. 1/3 of those items were from my closet but hey it’s reselling right? I concentrate on high sell through items especially (electronics, collectibles etc) again, love the content and the subjects. 👍

Thank you for this video. I own a small business not related to reselling but I do rent a small warehouse, last year I lost my biggest client due to them moving out of town. What was a hobby, now has to ramp up to full time (reselling), which I believe is the hardest part because I am still learning what works and what doesn't. The mistakes get expensive and the time to get this reselling off the runway and into the air, is truly a time sponge. So that relates to lots of time and little to no profit. Thankfully, it is not a dire situation and gives me time to get it all organized and scale up to the size it needs to be. I had to reconfigure my warehouse which takes lots of time to be more reseller friendly. It is all the little things that we don't think about when watching a KZbinr talk about reselling. I am trying different ways to organize inventory, track inventory, track sales and to streamline it all. My most fun sale was found in a tiny corner of the thriftstore. It was vintage metal toy soldiers that were Medievel figures and Napoleonic. I tripled my money on those and know nothing about that stuff. The scary part is that they sold within 10 minutes of listing so I may have left money on the table, oh well, I am still happy about it. Watching your videos encourages me to pick up the pace and get it ramped up.

Been reselling 35 years.for me its kind of like a drug addiction. I have withdrawals on rainy weekends and resort to watching yardsale videos to get my fix, lol.not the same but it satisfies me plus i often learn stuff on whats selling these days.its definitely an ever changing business and what sells today for good money might not sell at all next week.i will buy and sell until i physically can't anymore.such a rush.

I can completely understand that shock of "I lost money this month!" and I can think of a couple of different ways of looking at overall sales to help cool that. First is to look at your total sales year to date and see what your total sales are vs. your total purchases. If you are consistently losing money every month, AND you're not buying from a "war chest" of cash to expand the business quickly, then you should look at your purchases, probably slam on the brakes, and make sure you have a zero-dollar death pile before buying anything else!! The second way would be to look at year-over-year sales: how does this month compare to this month last year? This method works best if there's a seasonality to your buying: you purchase more in the summer than in the winter (yard sales, etc. don't happen in the winter.) You might see that you lose money EVERY year in the dead of summer because it's prime buying season, yet sales are lower because folks are on vacation, etc. If you use a spreadsheet to track sales (I use MS Excel but "different singer/different song") it's going to be easy to visualize all this data by creating a graph or a chart.

I only buy one day a week locally now, and save the rest of my chips for estate sales I'm personally cherry picking. My primary reason for this is that my local area is very saturated with pickers of all ages, and I end up spending more in gas than I do on finds. Also, the pickers for my thrift stores are not consistently stocking new finds often enough. I find less than 3 items per week in 5 thrift stores, so I quit going to nearly all of them. I went to one estate sale, and that inventory last me 6+ weeks......Thrift stores are a total waste of time in my area, outside if the BINS. As soon as I figured that out, my profits skyrocketed. Also, if you're ordering shipping supplies as a beginner, you're doing this wrong. Your shipping supplies should be coming from the Menards dumpster for free. Dollar stores, inside the store, has boxes galore too! Good ones. Why are you buying shipping supplies? If you're buying shipping supplies other than tape, PLEASE STOP. Unless you're big time, that's an enormous mistake. I'm sorry but it is. Your brain needs to function to make it as a reseller. Stop making it so hard on yourselves. Anyways, I digress. Great video. Thanks for the education. I love your channel.

I have to disagree. If you are selling on any online platform buy boxes, poly mailers ect. Take pride in what your selling and what it looks like when the buyer first sees the package. Shipping in dumpster dived used boxes look bad on the selling platform and every seller on it. Having the correct new box saves time by not having to drive to a dumpster and dig for a box or spend 5 minutes cutting down a dumpster box. Its the same as quiting going to the thrift stores to save money on fuel due to lack of finds.

@@ericgunter45 No it isn't. Must be nice to be married and have two incomes, like I'm sure you do. And I get QUALITY boxes from Dollar Tree, they aren't from dumpsters, they are from inside the store. Have your purchased anything from me? Then how do you know? You must polish that crystal ball every morning huh, while you live with half my living costs. Don't like it, go pay more somewhere else, I'll keep stacking my cash, and sell everything just the same without customers who nit pick over cardboard, like you. Derp. I WANT YOU TO BUY SOMEWHERE ELSE. I sell mostly tools, and I immediately block customers like you, because you're undesirable business, because you're an irrational spoiled boomer, and I don't want anything to do with people who think an item is inferior because of the cardboard it came in. That's completely absurd.

@@885Blackjack wasnt calling you out. Just disagreeing with you and giving my reasons as to why I feel that way. I actually agree with you about thrift stores as the ones around me are useless. The company that owns the goodwills around me sorts anything good and sells it online. Salvation army gets the junk goodwill wouldnt take and tapes ebay listings to the items. And dont get me started on the animal rescue thrift those people price things higher than everest. So breath, I wasnt trying to rile you up just disagreeing.

I’ve been on eBay for 25 years and I’ve never made my own store. I’ve only started to get more serious this past six months. Where do you get most of your inventory that you get in bulk? I’ve only just watched a couple of your videos so far but I just subscribed and I’m wondering where you get your inventory? I pretty much stick to Leftover estate sales where I get everything for free and my local thrift stores which there are many since I’m in the San Francisco Bay area. Any suggestions?

Having some independence is worth it. Part time reseller. Stayed up till 1:00am taking pictures of clothes. Up at 6:30 to take kid to bus. It’s a grind. The pay per hour is low. The extra cash though without extra bosses is priceless. For most of us earning a $1 at a full time job is not worth it, and reselling is. It worth it. We do it anyways. Why? Because we hard working Americans, not leeches.
