I'm a manga reader personally myself, but i always go to the anime when there's something that needs to be seen animated. ALSO 1 thing that the manga WILL NOT give you, is the BEAUTIFUL music of the series. Definitely enough reason alone to watch the anime imo.

My fav thing about the Baratie Arc is the way Hawkeye is introduced. He wasn't sent after the Strawhats by the World Government he just happened to arrive at the restaurant because he was following Don Krieg. Don Krieg woke him up from HIS NAP so Mihawk massacared Don Kriegs fleet then stalked the survivours to the Baratie to 'kill some time'. Because he was bored. Loved the vibe this gave his character, absoloutly great intro.

I've always thought syrup village was overhated. It's a very sweet arc, because it demonstrates that people do create a lasting change on others, even if its not just their dreams. Usopp running through the town gave everyone motivation for the day. They felt bad that they might have gotten too angry. He was someone who really made a big impact on his home, and through his will carrying on, the town will still get motivated every day.

fun fact: Usopp name is a combo of 2 things Aesop for the second half the first bit is from Uso which is lie or an exlemation for unbleavable in Japanese, also Usotsuki is lier in Japanese

Actually, though it is more a personal opinion, most of the people i know that was reading the color version changed back to the black and white... Though the colored version brings a whole new dimension to the manga... It also misses a lot of the intensity and power of a lot of scenes where oda focuses on characters and their emotions since those scenes are also muffled by the color... though the anime brings those emotions back in again with the voices music and sound effects... but Oda does magic just with those black and white lines and it really is toned down a bit when the color overshadows a bit of that...

And yeah the Anime stepped down on those brutal things of Zeff but in the Live Action it was mentioned and showed that his feet are red because of teh blood of his enemys! also i think that battleship thing from mihawk was mentioned as well. IMO his way of making sure that Kuina has a part on her dream is to become the greatest swordsman by using Kuina's sword as his main sword, that way she would be participating in their dream coming true even after passing. There are dozens of anime adaptions that I prefer to the original manga. One Piece is very much the opposite. The artistry, detail and pacing are all superior to the anime most of the time even with One Pace. These videos continue to be amazing.

While Jango's moonwalk and hat are obvious homages to Michael Jackson I believe his hair and face are directly inspired from Steven Tyler. In addition to this, Sanji's aesthetic and mannerisms were actually confirmed by Oda to be inspired from the character Mr. Pink from the movie Reservoir Dogs. Just some fun trivia I thought was worth sharing

My favorite aspect of One Piece is that its always felt as though Oda took a child's bedroom and turned it upside down spilling the toybox, bookshelf, movies, etc. all over the floor and made an entirely unique narrative with all these disparate source materials. So with that being said my question is what is your favorite reference, homage, or inspiration found in One Piece? For example I love that Big Mom is essentially the witch in the candy cottage from Hansel & Gretel.

I won’t read the official translations of the manga for that reason (even though I’m helping my husband collect it). A lot of the characters are named after real historical people and fictional characters, so Zoro IS the intended pronunciation. Plus it’s just fun to say his full name- Roronoa Zoro!
