Indeed, often with no titles as such either, rather a few seconds if titles card and something bland and unimpressive underneath. Unlike the creativity of the past, e.g. Ron Grainer's original Doctor Who theme with the radiophonic score.

Perhaps the idea was that the sax player is hitting the "wrong" notes each time through until finally, he hits the "right" notes (an octave higher?) the last time around?

@@christopherdrennan5819 Erm, _close_ - but as stated above, the composers are Rod Argent and Peter van Hooke. Rod is a keyboard player and Peter is a drummer, so presumably the sax was played by a session musician. If I had to hazard a guess about the sax player's identity, I'd plump for the late Raphael Ravenscroft (the "Baker Street" guy).
