Absolutely beautiful music for a Sunday afternoon or any time -- by Mark Lopeman, tenor saxophone; James Chirillo, guitar; Tal Ronen, string bass. Recorded on March 29, 2015, at Casa Mezcal on Orchard Street, New York City, by Michael Steinman for JAZZ LIVES (www.jazzlives.wordpress.com).

All fantastic musicians!! Beautiful improvisations. The beauty and eloquence of Mr.Chirillo, the bouncy pop of Mr. Ronan and the gorgeous gentle tone and architecture of Mr. Lopeman....it doesn't get better than this in live jazz.

Awesome guitar too. A friend loaned me one for a month! Danged if he would sell it to me though!

Thank you James, Tal and Mark for this moment of musical excellence. Too bad the audience is too inept to appreciate what's really going on.

I play rhythm guitar in a 17-piece swing band (acoustic archtop, no amp) but I'd absolutely love to do something like this in a nice intimate setting. This is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration guys!

The look on James' face when that glass broke... Priceless. But I think Mark fell asleep during your solo, James. Loved the performance guys.

Mark seems to have the ability to wake up with two bars left in a chorus. Then if the solo continues, he dozes off again.

Hello, This message is for Mr.Chirillo, My apologies to the other fine musicians your excellent as well. But just recently, I saw a video that Mr. Chirillo, was teaching theory on Mr. Freddie Green, on another channel. To say the least, It opened some blocked doorways in some my thoughts regarding music. Had I responded on the other channel, I don't you know if you would have ever received it. Thank You.

These guys are excellent. Sheesh, I wish I could play guitar like that. ***Tip for folks trying to do video in a noisy environment: get an external mic to plug into your camera (doesn't need to be expensive) so you can put it right near the musicians, and, if possible, set your levels using the manual volume control on the camera. In a situation like this I'd recommend putting the sax player on the left or right and putting the mic between the bass & guitar, though this group has excellent balance.

but this sounds really with the light crowd noise imo just wish we could hear the bass player a little better

Wonderful performances from all the musicians on this great Rogers and Hammerstein gem! The solos are tasteful and sophisticated. This song has a bossa feel to it here that is propulsive and joyful. Too bad for the background chatter, but this makes me want to hear a recorded studio version. Maybe miking the group and using a mixer. Isn't a broken glass good luck?

I understand. But for the thousandth time, a brunch place that has music as an incidental attraction is not a concert hall. You can read it as the decline of what we once called civilization, or you can sigh and listen AROUND the talkers. The sad answer is that no, most people don't know what live music is anymore, but we should celebrate the musicians rather than complaining about the ignorant -- my thought on the subject.
