@@Shadiitoooo It's still on the backlog, a couple of friends did and said it's dull at first but improves over time. Most of the hate isn't towards the game, it's towards the character, it was review bombed for that reason. If you put in the effort to find 100% playthrough reviews you'll get a better idea of how it plays as a whole. Most people are too lazy to make up a false review if they haven't played it and are only there to hate on the idea of it.

If you think about it people probably hate the game because it had so much potential and needed so little to be great. Maybe don't make insufferable characters? Maybe don't hide the fun behind hours of unnecessary intro? Maybe don't follow Ubisoft's tired example for open world design? It needed to be less to be great, not more. If this game was just trash people wouldn't even bother. This is a game ruined by management politics which makes it sad.

I was happy to watch this 'xx time' later review - especially as it skipped past the negative pile-on reviews from before. I think that it was very fair to say that there are many laspects which were disappointing compared to the hyped-up trailers and promotion e.g. story, (non-existent) good side quests, lacklustre/minimal open world design, etc. I think those comments are fair. I DON'T agree at all with the comments about the main character - she was an extremely well-voiced and fleshed-out character with compelling dialogue in the cutscenes. For me (and many others), she was a very real character. I'm just going to say what I think is the *real* reason that she got so much hate: she wasn't a sexual or sexy character with DOA Volleyball options for her outfits who doesn't fawn over, support or worship another male character. She isn't Mary Poppins nice or Lara Croft unemotional, or The Last of Us 'adorably sarcastic little sister/daughter'. She is EXACTLY what an orphan with no parents or family being put through the US child welfare system and having lived on the streets would react and act like. I think the Internet, particularly gamers with THESE expectations of female characters, need to GET OVER THEMSELVES, and actually consider what is good characterisation. Don't get me started on how unlikeable the majority of male videogame characters are...but NO ONE has ever blasted a game for them. Oh, and I don't see them in DOA Volleyball either 😉

Thanks for your thought out comment. I can agree with a lot of this. The hate on the game and character was absolutely not warranted, I hate to think it's simply because she was a woman of color but the bar is never too low it seems. I think her VO was fantastic (I can't say the same for Cuff's but whatever...) and her character felt much better realized for me in the second half when the isakai world became more personal for her. Personally her arc didn't feel as solid for me as I would have liked, but I never found it bad or cringe like some games. This was as thoroughly ok game that is a fun romp for most and I'm sure a handful of people will really love. The backlash (aside from PC's performance issues) mostly felt flash-in-the-pan culture war bs for a game that was, again, just completely ok. I haven't played the DLC but I am curious if it is any good, since it and the game get deep discounted fairly often these days.

I just bought it 2 days ago for 20 bucks and agree with you for the most part. The combat once you really get into it is the best part. The world is interesting but the way the story is told and the info is given via the books and random archive stuff is a little wack. Frey as a character is certainly different from your usual heroine and it does feel like they just tried to slot as many f-bombs as possible in there but she was aight. Overall I'm enjoying nonetheless

I picked this game up on Nov 30, 2023 when it was on sale for $20 and it was the first (and so far only) game to overheat my PS5 and cause it to shut down. It was a brand new PS5 that I got on Nov 19, 2023 so it didn't have enough time to collect dust or anything. After the shut down I played it again, got to the same location and it overheated again. After the second shut down, I stopped playing it for fear it would break my new PS5. And like I said, it's so far the only game to overheat it. I don't know why.

The gameplay was pretty decent. You can feel it had the soul of FF15 at its core. I lost interest in the story pretty fast though. It's okay if you can get it on a deep sale. Less than $20 is a good price for it. Funny considering it was Square's first $70 game.

They made all the trash mobs way to tanky that it becomes grueling and tedious to have to constantly kill 50+ enemy mobs . Would have been more fun to have all those hundreds and hundreds of trash mobs melt under your attacks, instead your attacks just minutely chip away at their health and it becomes an ordeal to have to kill them all

Forspoken: First, the word choice itself says a lot about what the story is about. Forspoken means to predict, foresee, to arrange or speak of in advance. It also meant to attract and fascinate; enchant or cast a spell over. Its origins are an old Scottish archaic meaning to bewitch. So, what is Forspoken about, it is a story about a girl, born as an orphan raised in foster care in New York City and her journey to the streets after being abused by a care system that lacks the essential ingredient of kindness. It is about a smart, street wise young lady who is angry at her parents who she perceives has abandoned her on the streets of New York City as a baby and at a system that has not shown her much in the way of kindness. Frey (Alfrie) has the capacity to show kindness to those in need, human or animal, but as street life often does, it leads her to petty crimes. These in turn lead her to her present state of finding herself in front of a judge who must determine her fate. During the season of Christmas, right before Frey turns twenty-one, the judge shows her kindness and mercy by allowing her off with just a sentence of community service. Forspoken is one of the best games of its kind that has been produced and made for a long time. It falls clearly in the shadow of such great games as Horizon: Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, the story of Aloy and her journey from childhood to young adult and her need to understand who she is, why she is here, and why her parents gave her up at birth. Another one I would compare it to is Dragon Age: Inquisition. Again, a character who knows who they are and maybe even who their parents are but does not understand what happened to them at the Temple of the Divine, where a great explosion killed everyone there except for them, torn a hole in the veil that separates the spirit and demon world from their world, and sets them on a path, a journey to discover what it all means. But why do I like this game so much? When I bought it, it was long after the final patch, so I am understanding of all the negative press it got when it was first released specifically concerning the performance. However, I would like to suggest that if you enjoy a game with incredibly good storytelling, deeply written lore, incredible world environments like those of Horizon, Dragon Age, The Elder Scrolls, and the Elden Ring, then you will fall in love with this one. The storytelling is slow, deliberate and measured in a way to get you to understand, it is her journey from where she started to what she becomes is the intent of the game. To have you live her journey as she begins to understand that life is more then the moments you came from or the ones your heading towards, it is the measure of how you live your life in the current moments. This is why I believe it is so hard for younger generations who live in a sound bite world of acronyms, fast moving ideas and concepts, and a lack of focus on what matters most, each other. In terms of game play, at the time you start a new game, you’ll be given a choice of how you want to play it, Story based, Exploration, Hard, and kind of an Ultra Hard. These are not exact words but close enough to give you the idea, There is no character creator in this as Frey is the main character protagonist. For me, it didn’t matter if the story itself was well written. There are plenty of other games that are similar such as the Horizon games where Aloy is the main character. I chose Exploration which is considered the Normal or Designed mode for the game. The game does a lot to build up the foundations and basis of who Frey is and to drive you towards this series of events that lead you to something that transports you into a different place, a different multiverse of sorts where magic is possible. Once there you discover there is a corruption that has taken place, and for some reason it doesn’t affect you. Discovering the truth of what the corruption is helps Frey to determine not only her fate, but the fate of this new world and its people. What else makes this a great game is that combat is incredible and allows you to build up and quickly switch between different types of magic that provide you with range and melee abilities. There is a building up of magics as you go and different skill trees that become revealed as you progress your way through the story. It also has crafting in the form of potions and passive effects that can be applied to things you find as you explore the world such as capes and necklaces. It is also a game that rewards exploration, there are lots of abandoned towns, settlements, cities, and camping areas to find and discover what secrets have been left behind. There are Temples that hide great danger but high rewards if you willing to venture into them. There are a lot of the map that is hidden but has discoverable ways that allow you to transition into other places where there is a lot of story, combat, and other things to find, there are even special pools that provide new spells if you soak yourself in them. This world is full of interesting and dangerous places, You could spend a lot of time fully exploring this world they created and uncovering all its secrets. The voice acting is professionally done. The characters make you believe in who they are in the story. Does it have words that might not be something you want to have your children hear. Yes, but however the game was at launch, it is not that way anymore. The times when I would hear a slang word was only when it made sense that the emotions would have sent you into dark places where those words might seem appropriate because of what was taking place. Also, for those who don’t like the talking cuff speaking so much, there is a setting which allows you to tone it down. I believe this game is not the best game I’ve ever played but it is an enjoyable experience, but you must give it time, you must take the journey with Frey to understand where the story telling will lead you in the end. Also, this game is unusual in that after you complete the main game, the game leads you into a world where you can continue to explore, discover and learn more about the world around you. I am from a much older generation, I understand the storytelling part of Frey’s journey but in a world where everything happens so quickly, and information is consumed and believed without critical thought to whether it has any real basis or not, I can understand why so many believed this was a bad game never to be played.

I got it 2nd hand for $18. I generally ignore reviews and make my own mind up based on watching KZbin clips of the game and if it looks like something I will enjoy, I'll play it. I don't regret it one bit, 25 hours in and I'm having a blast with it. It's a 7.5/10 game for me, it's kept me interested and playing for longer than skyrim, horizon forbidden west, fallout 4 and ghost of tsushima managed so it's doing something right.

Honest review. I bought at release. The traversal, combat, open world are all pretty solid. The different skill sets and special moves are all good. It can be challenging. The story is average. The combat and traversal cover up a lot of little flaws. It’s a solid 7.5 out of 10.

coolio. I played the demo when It came out and the performance to graphic fidelity ratio was god awful... either terrible graphics and OK fps or OK graphics for terrible fps (and motion blur)... I hear it got a significant update... That's where I don't agree with the maybe consider mentality. I got lulled into it by reddit, I personally don't think its a good game by any means but even if i were to consider your review because its mediocre, im wasting my time not playing games that are genuinely much better. There are greater games and you shouldn't lower your expectations for mediocrity. The industry should release much better games than us being okay with them being mediocre because at the end we are paying for it.

That's the what the maybe consider rank is for. Some people might find it worth their time even if other games are objectively better, while others should probably pass on it for something different.
