"A collection of horror figures from media; books, movies, whatever - all being taken into one place and manifesting it in one pocket dimension." Like, that's the game of Dead By Daylight. ngl it's very funny to see ppl that aren't familiar with DBD try to make sense of all the DBD references and easter eggs. My biggest gripe with this game is that the story they DON'T tell is so much more interesting than the one they do. I want to see Augustine's past, I want to see her manipulate Frank, I want to see what happened to Robbie, I want to know how Sam Green got there by time travel, I want to see what happened to Jaime, I want to know why Bonnie died so young, I want to know how Augustine found and first summoned the entity aND SURVIVED!!! The stories they omit are so intriguing, but instead they give us Stan and Chris, two horribly annoying characters that I just don't care about. There is so much they can explore but, we'll never get that actual story....

It's quite bad. Overall basically nothing happens for the first half of the game and then almost every possible death and everything spooky is squeezed in right at the end with time travel and a lot of extra 'lore' elements that don't actually matter to this story but seem way more interesting and important. The editing is also bad in some places, like when Augustine dies it's really weird that they have the shot of her turning round and looking at Frank and starting to look scared as she just finishes talking normally about her reward. It reminded me of Man of Medan a bit sometimes which is... not good.

Googled it and Sam's death is actually ridiculous. For the Squad to save them they actually would have had to *fail* the QTE and let Stan die, if you save him then Linda or Sam have to die and Stan just dies no matter what anyway. Apparently *maybe* if nobody takes the 'protective' talisman (basically if you just miss it?) then Stan will die and Sam and Linda won't be at risk instead. My understanding of the DBD universe is that a killer and his victim, or a small group of victims, is, in the transient act of a killer's essential loss of the cosmic game of cat and mouse, are brought into the fog. Like, the DBD universe definitely has strong inspiration drawn from the D&D setting of Ravenloft in that aspect: An evil grows to a point where it becomes an icon in its world and Ravenloft uses its mist to take the evil into its separate planescape of bound evil to produce a form of power. Heroes are drawn in because it needs the dichotomy of good and evil warring to generate the power it needs. Each act being important as the souls are eternally preserved like a living museum. The entity is really just a giant Madame Webb type creature constantly putting on a series of games with the pieces it collects. 1 Killer and 4 survivors fighting eternally to fill their roles. Now, do the characters it collects really get taken or is there just a copy made? Who knows? I know in Ravenloft the beings are physically removed into the demi-planes but Ravenloft is only a framework of inspiration. I know the Madame Webb aspect is definitely an inspiration too. Finally, you get to the original intention of DBD where there was never supposed to be non-human (or humanoids in any case) killers. The use of licensed killers was just a way to drum up business so this game might be telling a story from the original lore. All of the original Killers are being plucked from this, and possibly other, worlds. Now that they do have other licensed killers though they have to fold it in somehow which may be why we're getting the camera literally recording a soul angle. Yes Jesse, there are crows all throughout the maps that can be scared off and give the killer an alert, no power needed and if a character stands still too long crows start circling their head giving constant killer alerts. Also the Artist has a power with crows. Anyways... I know y'all like your lore so I'll try to help a little with keypoints from the original content killers for easy research and cool token and artifact relation and linking, I hope it helps y'all enjoy the story a little more and connect a little deeper. I gave up on DBD as a game back in 2018 because I loved the hide and seek vibes but it's turned into a direct competition asymmetrical game and that's just not my thing. I think basically what she's doing is that she's picking apart the leftover bits that get captured on the film to basically make a Frankenstein Frank Stone in such a way that it's the most evil and murderous version of Frank possible. Like maybe the thing that she was getting from the 1980 timeline was Frank's willingness to kill children. Since that's the Frank that was happily trying to sacrifice a young child

Compared to other story focussed games this feels like a stage play. It's like they wanted to go away from QTEs but in doing so made the "gameplay" so forgiving that there's no tension. For real what's the possible danger in not filming the monster? The camera icon appears and you just aim straight ahead... I was so confused what they wanted me to take from these scenes.
