VW Golf GTD is a really decent blender I think. it's fuel efficient (60 MPG combined) will get you around places with little in the tank aswell, and it's not over the top compared the what others say like A45 AMG, RS3 etc....

Get a BMW M135i or the all new BMW M140i. These are two totally fantastic hot hatches, with plenty of horses under the throttle! Don't get me wrong, the Golf R is a very good car, but you don't feel the power as much as you do in the Bmw. The new M140i also now comes in 4 wheel drive, launching it from 0-60mph in just 4.4 seconds.
