When you look at how these price guides handle valuing coins, they get things like a 3-pack of coins at auction at Heritgate, and that gets used to value a single. Or you have a specific variety, like an auction for a double-die variety and that works its way into the price guide for the non-double die.

@@TheWinstonDoubleCouldn’t that be because of the date and mint mark of each? Some double eagle mint mark combos are really rare.
@TheWinstonDouble6 күн бұрын
@_CYB0RG_ No, it was on the same coin. I think what happens is that any common date below MS-60 or so gets automatically updated if the price of gold moves like $5-10. But any common one that's MS-60 or higher needs a human update. You know how gold shot way up last year, right? Well, I think it went high enough that a cull showed it was more valuable than 60, 61, 62, and maybe even 63 because they hadn't manually updated those.
@_CYB0RG_6 күн бұрын
@ That’s one thing that bothers me about the NGC price guide. Coins that are rare enough to not sell often don’t get any sort of update as to their current value and current values can get mixed up because of lack of updating. Greysheet is more reliable for things like that it seems. PCGS is overvalued much of the time making it a turkey shoot for proper values. Coins like that you have to really stay on your toes and research values for yourself, I think.

I've found 8 Wounded Eagle's after searching 85 boxes in about 18 months, although I haven't searched a box in about a year, none were in MS condition, sold them or put them up for auction on eBay, best sale amount out of the 5 coins I put up was around $60 and the best auction amount out of the 3 in the best condition that I put up for auction was almost $90. I've also found 32 SBA Wide Rim or Near Date Sm Dollars.

When I was selling off my dads collection & got myself hooked on Morgans, I became completely inthralled with the Morgan Vams. My addiction was on the 1900-0 Cam 29A ... Die Break ... I found those cracks etc. just so incredibly beautiful as I bought some Slabbed ones from E-Bay & when thinking about the early stamping of those coins. Hard times hit for me in 2018, & I had to choose between food, rent & my Silver Mogans, I sold just about every piece of Silver I owned, along with my 1942 Gibson Guitar. As often as I did not get what I had hoped, for some of the things I was selling, I was the most disappointed in what little the Vams brought. Have you done a video about Vams, would love to hear your opinion regarding Morgan Vams. Thanks

I looked at them all over and I only see NGC naming it the "Speared Eagle". gads. I guess for those who know, it will make them say gads..For those who don't, might cause some confusion. @CoinHELPu7 күн бұрын
Because it’s a die gouge, nothing speared anything. It was more of a wound from a scape not a spear or arrow.
@CADRollHunter6 күн бұрын
@@CoinHELPu Yes, of course, these types of die varieites are due to an inocuous die anomaly (chip, scratch, gouge, break, etc.), but we tend to name the more interesting ones based on what it looks like. This one looks like a "wounded eagle" or a "speared eagle," and so that's why it's called that. The grading companies are simply using a different nick-name for this die variety. The nickname "wounded eagle" isn't supposed to refer to a wound that the die has suffered, and NGC isn't trying to confuse people or make them believe that the image is actually of an eagle with a spear in it. It's just a nickname that describes the die variety. It's the same with the "spitting horse" (that horse isn't actually spitting, of course), or a the 1957 Canadian "bug tail" nickel. Not an actual bug, just a die chip.
@CoinHELPu6 күн бұрын
@ incorrect, these are all named as such because of their appearance, not just because it’s a nickname only. Also the die was “wounded” with a gouge, not speared. It doesn’t matter if NGC isn’t confusing on purpose, they’re the only entity calling it speared and that fact alone causes confusion. They just need to be on the same page. It should be called gouged eagle to highlight how it happened.
@CADRollHunter6 күн бұрын
@@CoinHELPu Daniel, I agree wth you completely that NGC should use the same name as everyone else for this particular die variety. It sounds like everyone else has been calling this a "Wounded Eagle" for a very long time. Using a different name is definitely confusing. But to be clear - nobody is suggesting the die was damaged with a spear - not even NGC.
