Great video, love your quirky animations! I like they way you try to accommodate every viewpoint here. Like some other commenters I've not come across many people who say those things about music theory, I guess it's pretty impossible in the classical world to not think about theory. Anyway, I think you make a valiant attempt at encouraging people to always keep an open mind - from all sides! Keep up the great work, I'll race you to 1,000 subs! (-:

Thanks David! I'd say about 20% of the musicians I know have a narrow view on theory and refuse to think about it. Many students of mine, at first, don't want to learn theory. Especially the guitarists (no surprise there I guess!). You're already ahead of me on the subs! (: I'm lucky to have even 50 with my kind of content. But, so be it - the race is on!

People hate theory for the same reason they hate math: they haven't invested the requisite time to get a feel for it. If you don't know all the 7th chords in C major without having to think you can't count 1-10. so of course you are confused by algebra, brah...

I just hate all the guitar lessons that only teach songs or teach straight up dry theory. I respect those who go the theory route but I prefer to just put sounds together.

Songs can be important for many people. I don't teach songs on my channel because there are already enough of that on YT.

There's so much life changing advice in here for the anti-theorites out there. I just sent this to some folks who "hate" theory, I think this video will really strike a chord with them. I've personally never understood the anti-theory camp. Imagine if a painter refused to learn the names of the colours because he thinks it would make him less creative?

Thanks man! I'm a complete theory buff as well, but then again, I do try to understand those who oppose theory. Because a lot of them actually do create some great music. But, like I said in the video - all music has it's own theory anyway. BTW, I see you got part 4 of the Went Gin video up! Awesome!
