It’s the last bit to Santiago de Compostela, and it proves to be an intense battle: my fellow pilgrim’s ankle is in bad shape, but taking a car for the last 20 kilometers after a walk this long is not an option. And so Roger & I take turns carrying her backpack, which is much easier than it sounds; walking in pain, however, isn’t. She’s a trooper, and somehow made it to the Praza de Obradoiro. Sometimes you have to rely on friends to make things happen.
Roger would later say - after having walked almost 1700 km - that this kind of un-pittoresque walk into the city was his most beautiful - because it was about *friendship*. And I think that nothing could sum it all up better than that. We made it. We made it together. We fought the battles that demanded to be fought. And we’re here.
I recorded some thoughts during the walk into town, by no means conclusive, but what is?
This was one intense Camino.
So come walk along with me…
