You just confirmed why I still love the clarinet after all these years. In my opinion there's no other instrument that is able to express your feelings all the way from sorrow to sheer joy. You just inspired me to pick it up again, so I owe you!

I watch this clip every day for couple of weeks now. It helps me a lot with not only the clarinet. Thank you Mr Daniels!

A trained ear, senses the train horn as a G. I used to take random sounds around me just as a din. Since I have been learning music all these random sounds now have colour. My neighbor working in his yard, his lawnmower seems a low E and his weedeater a D. Never gave it a thought before. Music is so inspiring, it literally changes the way your brain is wired.

That C to Eb alternation brought to mind Gordon Jenkins' "I'll Never Forget You"-- not a blues but a sad, bluesy song like the ones Jenkins wrote for and arranged for Sinatra.

As a HS clarinet player who really wants to branch off into jazz a little bit, this video has actually answered one of my major questions. My other question at this point is this: Is there a kind of setup you have to have for this? I have a Buffet R13 with a Vandoren black diamond ebonite mouthpiece using a 3.5 Vandoren V.12 reed, and that works amazingly for classical music. Is it really just a change in embouchure or is it also possibly a change in equipment?
@fernie512966 жыл бұрын
Clarinet Catato id say it’s 90% the player the rest bring equipment. That being said, I’d recommend looking at Vandoren mouthpieces with more flexibility, like the M30. The sound won’t be THAT different but the facing will make it more comfortable for bending notes and stuff. The BD5 is pretty focused. Other than that, any clarinet or setup can work. Pretty sure Eddie Daniels played on a Buffet for most of his career!

The Vandoren 5Jb with a softer reed gives more volume and flexibility and edge.

Clarinet Catato I played clarinet in a nationally renowned high school band program(Marian Catholic) and I was a terrible player as a ninth grader. I found that just being around great players improved my playing by taking things I saw or heard from them into the practice room. I would not worry too much about your rig or gear setup, tone is in the hands, embouchure, and your ears. It sounds to me like you are already there.
