Occasionally you encounter a true virtuoso that's also a genuinely sweet person.

Eddie has a lot of common sense and a lot of musicality within' that. These videos are a great demonstration of that. What I also like is-they are done for MUSICS sake. He is about the music, and committed to it. There is a lesson in that as well as everything else he does. Very inspirational and helpful videos- thank you.

thanks for the great advice, back when I was eleven, my father said I should play songs that I had never heard, -- it was refreshing to hear you say that it was important to know what you were trying to play -- duh! My father's emphasis on sight-reading diffiuclt (for me) scores at such an early age ruined the clarinet for me, though I had intutied already that the way to learn an instrument was to play songs you know and like -- which I later applied to the recorder, on my own, with fair success .... now that I have taken up the clarinet again, after more than fifty years, I find it, compared to the recorder, very difficult to blow, it has taken me months just to be able to sustain tones for more than ten seconds ......

Thank you! Great ideas for practicing, I have had the same questions , I have a question for you, I play in our church Orchestra and I'm always finding that I have to take a piece of sheet music that is written for a c instrument and transpose is it for my B flat clarinet. But I'm doing it by hand because I don't know how else to do it is there a way to do it like scan it in and click a button somewhere and it transpose is it to my instrument key of B-flat?

Eddie is a virtuoso. The things he does cannot be applied directly to anyone else. It will not be helpful. The things us humans should take from this is that we should be practicing with "presence" and "thoughtfulness". Only then, are we able to address our problems consciously and subsequently, fix them to great effect. Yes, Eddie, improvised rudimentary work is the best, if you are aware of what you are doing, and not just noodling. See, "Eddie Daniels on The Art of Noodling".
@blueyedboymrdeath5 жыл бұрын
Attaining proficiency in hearing and playing various melodies or patterns in all keys is, to say the least, very useful, at least for jazzers, and he's showing a bit how he goes about it. "Cannot be applied directly to anyone else"? Not at all. Of course, one doesn't have to go about it exactly as he does. And if the proficiency he demonstrated was for a pattern that was "new" to him, certainly it will go slower for most of us.
