Hey vizeh, as a saints fan this is a really difficult time for everyone who supports the club. I've seen the signs of a difficult period coming from the last couple of years and it is genuinely tragic to watch my club, who were in Europe only 6 years ago, sink to it's lowest in over a decade. A lack of action from the board in the last few years and a serious complacency when it came to managerial choice has sunk my club and I'm very worried about what the future holds for the saints. Fingers crossed we can follow in Burnley's footsteps and tear up the champ next year. Thanks for covering this as it's really insightful and entertaining even for a saints fan like me, keep up the amazing work man

Still remember the 2014/15 Saints squad under Ronald Koeman.. that devastating attack consisting of Pelle', Mane, Long and Tadic.. a very balanced midfield with players Schniederlin, Wanyama... and a steady defence with Fonte', Clyne, Bertrand.. tearing apart teams with rapid counter attacking football.. they used to be so good in the transfer market as well.. The key to a bounce back is replicate the past winners formula. (1) New manager. Get a new manager, new ideas, new image new philosophy. (2) Retain. Try to retain as much if your best players. (3) Signings. Sign abroad as its unlikely any current players of quality playing in england will move to a club coming down a league. (4) Build a structure in Pre-season. It is important to get a side to become cohesive to a tactic and refresh them after a season of losing

Hi Vizeh, love the videos. As a saints fan it makes me really sad as to the state of my club. I am polish, born in Southampton and a lot of my family migrated here so this city means a lot to me and this club too. The team has absolutely 0 passion and nobody can be bothered. The only player that I see at least trying is Carlos Alcarz. Me and my mates talk all the time now that we hope our team gets relegated as this could mean a wake up call for the club and the board. We are probebly the worst team in any top flight league in Europe. The only time this club does something is against the so called top 6 where we somehow get results. If we played against every team like we do against the top 6 we maybe would be pushing for Europa or Conference league. I hope that we get relegated at this point because then the board would wake up and actually start doing something. We have amazing young players and one of the best academies in the league. Anyways love the great work recently so keep it up, all the best

As a saints fan, this is a wider issue than just the mistakes of 2022/23. It’s the boards fault and the multiple chairman that took over that are to blame. We never replaced players like Lambert, Lallana, Rodriguez, VVD, Fonte (the list is endless). We lost that skill of scouting talent of not just youth but of motivators too! All our problems and consequences have spring from this! The only player who should be praised is JWP but he’ll go now in the cheap to a mediocre club like Villa or West Ham. It’s shocking and devastating to see a club that I fell in love with football with go down. I can’t see us coming back up without a new board and new players. Selles shouldn’t have got the job and we should have gone in for Sean Dyche ages ago. I don’t have much hope for Saints and to be honest this could be the end of a club that use to be a money-ball club before it was cool to be one like Brighton and Brentford are today. It’s a shame, a shambles and a club that has no sense of management. Chopping and changing managers and owners haven’t helped and no financial backing from owners like Gao Jisheng especially killed this club’s PL status yet at the same time the PL status was the reason why Gao Jisheng bought us in the first place. Never backing managers with funding- making transfers that suited Ralph when we had Jones in (which was the ultimate decision that got us relegated). Never replacing key players and always thinking of profits never helped me not evolving our youth development at the club didn’t help either and most of all- not having any leaders or motivators towards a vision didn’t help. It’s not a good day for football or Southampton. It’s depressing to see what once was the template to how a club should be run now be the template of how a club shouldn’t be run. I thought in 10 years time from 2012 we would be champions of the Europa league- not relegators to the championship. It’s a really sad day on the south coast but the stormy seas and choppy waters have been coming for years - yet we did nothing and sank deep towards the seabed

As a Saints fan I agree with most of what you've said. Frankly SR haven't had a clue in how to keep Saints in the Premier and that's not surprising as they considering they're an investment company that takes 'risks' and 'bets' - the writing was on the wall. The signs have been there for a long time. Gradually Saints have been losing key players: to Liverpool, Tottenham and Man Utd. A team really can't recover from that long term unless an incredible concerted effort is made - and that wasn't done - SR came in at the time when a steady ship was needed. Owners and managers should have tried to rebuild the team which was losing key players that glued the team together even players such as Ings, Romeu and Forster. A sound goalkeeper, a proper left and right back, an experienced centre half, two capable centre midfielders and wingers and at least one goal scorer. A sensible approach to running a football club, a new manager, a new team - a rebuild from top to bottom is what we actually need. That'll be some turn around in one season! As a side note, actually Bednarek has been one of our best and most committed players since he's returned despite all the nonsense before.

Hi Vizeh, been supporting this club for 10+ years and ever since we hired Hassenhuttl, there has been evidence of this “losing culture” you spoke about. His first couple years were consistent and that as you’d expect of us but when we started achieving freak things like being top of the league, it gave us a fire within us that we could beat anyone. And I still think, we can. However with this fire becomes complacency, under Hassenhuttl, we see that we get the results against the top 6 more often than not, so we put our foot off the gas and treat the opposition below us with more respect. Our problem this season is the after-effects of this weird psychological phenomena that we play overly well against the big 6, and don’t perform well against well… anybody else. This psychological disease we’ve got was made worse under Nathan jones and really was the final nail in the coffin. But due to this weird culture we have at southampton, going down is best for us at this moment in time.

A long standing issue with them is the lack of regeneration. The buy low sell high thing worked with Mane, Van Djik, Lovren & others but they were never really replaced whereas a club like Brighton would have found a replacement. There’s been a struggle to integrate young players as well for a club that prides themself on their academy. I remember players like Reed, Hesketh, McQueen & Sims kicking on the sideline for ages and seemed to be highly rated but were stuck at the club into their 20s and never got a true look in before being released. JWP is obvious exception but if/when he leaves I expect there to be a big hole that won’t be filled.

Also St Marys is a big talking point, Sports Republic have neglected any investment in it this season, let away fans into the home end and moved loyal season ticket holders around. Our fans at home games are so pissed off both with fan experience and home performances

Interesting about "throwing players under the bus" - Ten Hag kinda does this by honestly and bluntly pointing out individual mistakes and weaknesses but it seems like he is doing this from a good place and trying to build up his team and players while staying humble himself. I really don't expect Southampton to come back up next year because I expect they will overhaul the a lot of the team without Burnley style overhauling the philosophy too.

The downfall started years ago. Gao was one of the worst owners the club could have: there was next to no investment into the club and all the new players were bought with money we got from player sales. Sports Republic came in and they brought the money, but it was too little too late and how it was used didn't work either. Our strategy to buy young talents backfired really badly. How many players brought in during summer and January windows have been hits? Yeah, that's right, Romeo Lavia is the only one. Bella-Kotchap is talented, but he's sadly injury prone and makes too many mistakes. Bazunu clearly wasn't ready for Premier League. Sulemana has pace but he's got no end product. A Premier League club needs experienced players. Our experienced players just aren't that good. Prowsey does what he can do, KWP is great, too, but what else have we got? Both Armstrong boys are underwhelming, Elyounoussi not good enough, Walcott four years past his prime, Salisu struggling, Diallo not Prem standard, Adams can't score, Bednarek catastrophic, Perraud can't defend all that well and so on. We also let our most important player go before the season started. Oriol Romeu, the man who kept Saints together, is missed badly. One of the worst decisions of recent memory. Saints' defending has been abysmal for years and letting Romeu go felt like a nail in the coffin. Lavia has been good, really good, but it's too much to ask one 18yo kid to protect the shaky backline. We should have brought in an experienced GK, too. The jump from League One to Prem was too much for Bazunu, he simply lets in too many weak goals and doesn't own his own box yet. A year in the Championship would have been great for his development. The biggest problem Saints have is goal scoring, though. Adams' hold up play is great, but god damn that man can't score goals! Like at all. We had two windows to bring in a new #9 or two, but in the end we got Paul Onuachu on the last day of January. Shocking. Then there is the manager situation. We should have let Ralph go much earlier. His record was incredibly bad after we went top of the table and he seemed like he was exhausted and stressed and needed a break. I don't even want to talk about Nathan Jones. That appointment went so wrong that everything else feels like a success. Selles can't save this ship from sinking. It's over. All in all, it's been incredibly tough year or two. We need a complete reset. Next summer we hopefully get rid of the deadwood and invest well. New manager, whoever it is, has to be a miracle man if we want to come back up. I just hope we actually start winning games again. We need some good vibes, man.

The 14/15 and 15/16 seasons were regarded as the best one for Southampton. They are supposed to be a real underdog in Premier League, having some world-class players like Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle, Virgil Van Dijk, Shane Long, Dusan Tadic, and even had Ronald Koeman as an elite manager. They finished in Europa League spot, but when they made through the group stage in 16/17, the club lost Mane to Liverpool, among others. As such, they were unable to stop the likes of Sparta Prague and Hapoel Be'er Sheva and only had a monumental win over Inter Milan at home. However, reaching the EFL Cup Final on 16/17 was such a fantastic. They managed to beat Arsenal and Liverpool at that time before losing to Jose Mourinho's Manchester United.

It’s tricky really they could easily keep sinking which is what most people thought of burnley but now they’re flying higher than anyone anticipated. It all comes down to what they do with the inevitables(losing key players, losing promising youngsters, revenue, and who will be the one to lead them back.) they have to find their formula for success im sure plenty of people are gonna be keeping an eye on what they do in the championship whether it’s a shit show or an absolute masterclass I can’t wait to see what’s next for them.

In summary. Saints demise caused by Chinese owner and Sports Republic. Both management styles lacked ambition and a total mismanagement of manager appointments. Saints brough in too many youngsters at the start of the season. Although talented, they lacked the experience to cope with the premier league. The managers appointed were/are tactically inept and this reflects in our style of play which has no pattern and direction. On the positive side, saints need to rebuild once the final whistle of the season goes. New owners are needed who have a passion for football and most importantly have time for the fans and the club and possess ambition. A new manager appointment, it would be great to see Graham Potter in charge next season. A squad clear out, and hopefully we can retain a few established players to equip us for the Championship in the likes of Bednerek, Lyanco, Perraud, Adams and Djenepo etc...We will need 3-4 good quality signings with players who have experience in the Championship. The priority is a quality striker who has a presence and can score goals. We as saints fans need to look forward to next season. It is a new challenge, and if we get things in place like I have mentioned, then we will all hopefully enjoy watching our team again.

Complacency is something more than just few sfc supporters can claim because my being Bournemouth fan for 50 years have experienced how saints supporters can carry an air of superiority over every team amongst the wilderness of top level sides between the M4 & M25 & the coastline from Lands End to Margate . Only Reading & Pompey dared to occasionally match or exceed their league standing until the recent success of the Beach clubs from Dorset & Sussex. Sfc have always lorded it in the centre of the south coast . 🏴❤️( ok Reading is north of the M4 but I know what I mean )

I think that ralf got put in a horrible position where it was obvious that the new owners wanted a specific style and would rather have a "stylish" new manager and take a roll of the dice rather than have a proven manager. Which is what Burnley did but they did it in the championship which is the correct place to take a risk. But not in the the prem. Not in a place where you are on the verge of relegation and appoint someone who has never managed in the prem and never taken accountability and put it against his own players

I never understood why they sack Hasenhuttl. Usually you sack manager to get a better one , i don't think they got that with his sacking and Jones incoming. They brought bunch of new players , many of them never got proper chance. It's wierd to see Southampton in this position , sitting at the bottom of the league since i always saw them as "safe" club , they did great job in the past by getting young prospects then giving them chance and time , and then selling them for big money. I don't understand how and why is Ward-Prowse still playing there , this is the right time for him to move on to bigger club.

I think its perhaps a small blip along the way, Southampton have a very young but definitely talented squad who will thrive in the Championship, they'll be stronger and more experienced and they could come back to the Prem even stronger and they have a very talented bunch of players that are just starting to come through their Academy Rasmus has to get the mangerial appointment right if they go for a new manager. Will Still would be my first choice, wants to manage in England has some excellent tactics, works with a young squad and is new to the managerial scene, new enough that he'd be open to trying to get Southampton promoted again and get into managing a prem team through that route.
