As you said there is always risk involved and it’s a fact of life that driving standards are getting exponentially worse. All you can do is use your own skills and instincts to try and be as safe as possible.

Car drivers drive around with their head up their arse in their own it entitled worlds. If they ever had the courage to ride a bike they would act differently.

That's why every motorcyclist should always be recording, otherwise everyone else will say you were going fast even if you weren't (in the event of an accident).

That's definitely a common question I've seen - "but how fast where you going?"

In the 2 years iv been riding its always roundabout where car drivers are always doing dodgy shit. (RHlane for straight over, pulling out infront of me, or not even slowing down enough when they approch). it feels like they just pay someone for their licences or just forget everything once the instructor give them it.

I ride a neon green kawasaki with a great big bright light on the front and wear gear that has high viz yet imbeciles still can't see me as they pull out which has made me think it's not about not seeing us but driver arrogance and their attitude of they're far too important to give a shit..

I completely agree with you. No one can perfectly predict every hazard out there, you can only do your best and wear proper kit, the rest is down to luck. I think part of the reason people can be so quick to criticise others is wishful thinking that the accident would never happen to them. Trying to convince themselves that their own riding is safe when in reality an accident could happen to any of us. It's unfortunately part of the game we play. Ride safe out there, and keep having fun! :D

Cars should be presumed at fault in a fair system because everyone else is a vulnerable road user. Them being idiots like using phones or being reckless should have more severe penalties because of that status but too much money goes in politicians pockets to keeps cars from that scrutiny.

It always annoys me when people say "Oh you should have done X,Y and Z" whilst sitting behind a keyboard with the luxury of rewind, pausing etc They so often forget that the person in the video likely isnt expecting a crash, is looking all over the place rather than lazer focusing on the wheel of the car infront of them, they would have to make the mental connections of "Oh sh*t that car is about to hit me!" to then move the bike out of the way in time to avoid a collision which sometimes just isnt possible.
@theodavies87542 күн бұрын
That car would have had me hitting the brakes to reduce the impact speed. Your response was to accelerate. It's that split second you are made aware that actually they haven't registered you are there, they can be looking straight at you but it doesn't mean they are seeing you. Give it another 30 years and you will definitely say the same thing.

80% of accidents between car and motorbike is the cardriver's fault. Statistics from the European Motorcycle Union, so you are corect the biker can usualy not do any more than they do. Car divers need to take more care in what they do!!

I teleported... Moped style! Some car drivers are very unpredictable. It's something I see and think about on every single ride. to day I was following a car around a corner that nearly drove straight into oncoming traffic and instead of steering away, they just slammed on their brakes. I could have just shot up the inside, it would have been safer for me to do that rather than hit my own brakes & risk getting rear ended by the car behind me. but my first reaction knock off what little speed I had and give myself a little more time to evaluate the situation. luckily the car behind me was aware of this persons driving ability just as much as I was & made a similar call to me. I then followed this car for another kilometre from a safe distance. watching how they were driving... If only I was wearing my good helmet with the camera attached instead of the one I don't mind putting on my grubby head at the end of the work day. that would have been a good clip to send to the police! Now, the argument that loud pipes save lives, or more that they don't. to the guy on the CBR600. make some damn noise before you overtake a bike slowing for someone pulling into a driveway... I was focussed on them, not looking behind. I could have decided to pass them as well, and that wouldn't have ended well for either of us. A rev bomb (or just a down shift with rev matching) to let me know you were there would have been appreciated (at least by me) and I wouldn't have been startled when you suddenly appeared in my peripheral vision. It's important to make sure you stay in a place where you have time & room to change course when a car does something unexpected... trust no-one! I had two cars pull out in front of me at the same time at a roundabout... and considering the bright streetlights and the fairly new and highly reflective Hi-vis jacket. there is no way in hell that they didn't see me. I get that the one in the left lane may have only gone because the one in the right lane went... I use that cover too. but they both should have seen my jacket shining in the middle of the road coming towards them. there was no chance in hell that neither of them saw it! now considering I had to wait for traffic, and went through from a stop, I was still in first gear, not going overly quick, just a safe speed to get through without getting in anyone's way. and yes, I did have to brake hard enough to lift the back wheel. but no I didn't get either numberplate on the Helmet cam... I wish I did!
@TipToeBikersКүн бұрын
I don't wear my helmet cam unless I'm filming a video, but my go pro is almost always on. It's a pain sometimes to faff around with batteries but knowing I'll be able to catch footage *just incase* is worth it

"I teleported".🤣🤣 I've done that a few times. Always the bikers fault. You hear and read stories about fatalities and people crying about the biker was a squid, the biker was racing or being reckless and most of the time it's an old boy with his wife on the back. And the number of people who cannot judge speed amd just assume based on the limit of the road is shocking. If you can't tell the difference when a vehicle is speeding, you shouldn't be on the road. I've people pull out on me when I'm doing 15 in a 20 and they claimed I was going too fast. 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

Ok I have been riding since the 1960s and I drive BMWs but I have only had one motorcycle crash on the road and that's when a Austin A40 came across a dual carriageway and wiped me out. That was in 1971. Not one accident in a car. I had a BMW bike as well until recently. The GS was getting a bit to heavy, but I miss it every day.

Well all I can say is #motojitsu says always practice and expect the unexpected. There is no such thing as accidents. Only you failed to plan ahead to avoid that. Practice more and more.

after riding and driving for 40 odd years I have seen a lot of close calls on other bikes and cars . Sometimes the Bike could have helped them selves ( still not their fault ) others when I see why the car did what they did, car drivers dont see you as they would need to look first. It is that simple ." you must have been going too fast because your on a bike "
@TipToeBikersКүн бұрын
Yeah the speed thing is a big one, even when friendly people try to give way to me, thinking that because I'm on a sportbike I'm trying to overtake. Which might be the case, but also... I'm on a 250, and they seem to think it's a 600 😂

It is not the right for anyone to drive or ride. It is a a gift and as a gift it can be taken away. People forget what they ride or drive are killing machines. As for the standard of riding /driving it is falling the DSA need to make tests more harder and more inline with todays traffic. I passed my test a lot of years ago and I have read and taken advanced test to be a better driver/rider. I would say to everyone do more advanced training.

You have to accept the risk as a biker - all the gear, all the time and be as good as you can be. You just about summed that up. The sad fact is that the vast majority of road users (of all kinds) have no concept of proper observations and pay very little attention to what they're doing and whats around them, so you have to do their observations for them as well, and assume that you've not been seen. Keep yourself safe, thats all you can do.

Is your front lights clean rear lights too? , did you check tyre pressure? If all else is good. You need to depend on your bike training you did. That will save you. When finished practise practice

Some incredibly shocking motorcycle riders around Northamptonshire though and it’s only been the last year or two. Riders wanting to become the big moto influencers they watch, but have half the skill or brain cells it seems. They’re even a laughing stock to quite a few clubs around Bedfordshire which makes even me embarrassed to ride around Northants now. Many will know the select few but it won’t last much longer.
