There's no such thing as gears being too long. Short gears are why 6 speed manuals suck. Snap snap snap snap, of gee we're in 4th gear doing 30mph :-( There's no trans better than a wide ratio 5 speed manual. :-)

Vampirebear13 mate I know what you mean but we are in 2020, I don’t think there’s been a porsche 5 speed since the early 90’s, 2nd gear is to long but I’ll take it

@@ianmitchell9102 TYVM for your reply. I was speaking of manual transmissions in general though. As for Porsche, the G50 5 speed in the 1989 930 is the greatest trans/car combo ever. For me, I had a 1985 Mustang GT convertible with a wide ratio 5 speed & a freeway flyer 2.88 rear gear & that car would FLY while getting great MPG. It would cruise on the Hwy. 60-70MPH @ 800rpm. That car would do triple digits @ about 1100rpm in 5th gear :-) Be well my friend !!! Mark in Ohio.

@@ianmitchell9102 All is as well as can be expected here & I'm NOT worried a bit. But every 6 speed I've driven has been a pain. Snap snap snap the by the time I'd hit 6th gear, it always makes me want an automatic. Driving a manual is about fun & driver involvement & hopefully power as well & 6 speed manuals just aren't fun IMHO. I love my brother's Audi TT but the transmission sucks. I envy you with your E39 M5. My current daily driver is a 2006 Toyota Matrix base model. It's slow & under powered but on the open road it's like a sportscar with it's 5 speed manual. Handles great with great 36 MPG. Also the time in the past I've spent driving 944's has been fantastic. Porsche is everything to me, regardless of model. Do you live in the UK???

I love the chalk (crayon) exterior, but I would have gone with the Red/Black Spyder Classic interior and removed as much Alcantara as possible

In The Headlights that’s why I’ve always wanted one, best sounding car available today!! I also love the GT4 as it’s claimed to be most engaging Porsche. Do you know much about the 718 GTS? Like does it come close to the GT4/spider now with the same (ish) engine or is it leagues below at every corner?

matt dicken it’s a very good question. The GTS is more forgiving. You can drive on UK roads and not worry about potholes and bumps as much as the suspension deals with it better, BUT, and it’s a big but, the NA 4.0 on the Spyder is awesome. You can rev it out and the feeling is great. You don’t get that on the GTS.

@@BOTBreviews You do get the (same NA 4.0l litre engine) in the new GTS 4.0 variants though (albeit with a electronically reduced redline)! I'm interested to hear how the Brooke Race Exhaust sounds against the JCR version, as well as how these modified 718 sports exhausts sound vs. the 981 (OEM) Sports Exhaust(?) P.S. I've always read that if you option the carbon bucket seats you can't get them heated. Looks like those are heated.

Hi, nice review 👍 - outstanding car, the real problem with the standard exhaust is the flaps closing completely between 1 & 4 revs - goes so quiet, then properly wakes up again... where was the exhaust done and how much?

The exhaust system is a custom made BRE Brooks Race Exhaust. Price unknown but the materials may vary, inconel or titanium are the most common I think. Paul Wallace, SupercarsOfLondon has a few video's on those exhausts if you are interested.

In North America, we thankfully don’t get the particulate filters, so the car sounds better with the stock exhaust.

Yeah, but just that the GT4 and Spyder don't fall under any 'Cayman/Boxster' designation anymore, rather just '718 GT4 and 718 Spyder'. While the Boxster still is around in both 4-cil and 6-cil variations, this Spyder basically is a roof-down GT4 and all it's trickled down bits from 911-series cars like suspension really do make those two a class of their own. So, if you talking this newer model, calling it the 'Boxster Spyder' makes me think of the previous gen.

How did you find the ground clearance on the Spyder? Did you have trouble clearing ramps or bumps?

The Spyder has a slightly shorter front bumper which helps a bit but I had no issues with anyway. I have quite a nasty entrance to my underground parking but coming at it at an angle it was fine, no issues 😊 I just went slow over speed bumps and again, no issues. Markko LA the pops do seem silly, but they are hugely fun. I guarantee you’ll have a massive smile on your face. And they are not fake. At least how AMG does it with their V8s. Sadly this feature is now largely gone for 2020...

You can’t open it fully no. Need to pop off the buttresses. As I mentioned in the video, you have loads of storage in the front so most people just use that.

Oh no no no those seatbelts will look nasty in 12 months unless your absolutely you wear gloves to keep it clean.I had them in a car many yrs ago and when it gets dirty it looks awful and is a nightmare to try to get clean.As for those doors pulls they will be even worse.Apart from that super car
