"without identifying Basque with Spain or France" is obviously stupid because the Basque region is part of Spain, and in its north part, in France. Oh Tina, this came when I needed it most. I'm in quarantine again, the second time since New Years! 😂 I think this has been my favourite travel/food vlog so far. I had an uncle who lived in Bilbao; too bad I was never invited to visit him. 😂 I grew up eating bacalao, my Mom was from Nova Scotia and it was a way to preserve the fish over the long winter. She would refer to it as poor people's food because she grew up in a family that basically lived hand to mouth. However, I loved my Mom's family so much, I can't say the same for my Dad's family who were upper middle-class and too hoity-toity for me. You've really got me rethinking where I'm going to visit. I had planned on Japan, Korea or China but now, I think I need to see Basque country. Well done Tina and Kevin. 😊

A couple of linguistic comments: - Those pintxos with olive+chilli(guindilla)+anchovy are called Gildas. Officially the first invented pintxo around 1940, named like that in honor of Rita Hayworth movie. - "Pimiento peppers" is a redundancy. That is to say "pepper" twice, once in Spanish and once in English. Those roasted red peppers are Pimientos del Piquillo or simply Piquillos. - Goxua means, literally, "Sweet" in Basque. And a couple of tips for the next time you drink Basque cider: You don't half fill the glass and leave the cider there, warming and settling, in the table. If you want to drink, you pour what you are going to drink (breaking the bubble on the side of the glass) and drink it immediately, still bubbly with all its aromas emanating. You definitevly need to live the Basque Cider House experience. Fresh cider directly from the barrel and freshly roasted meat.
