A triumphant return and important message from Sam Riegel.
Thank you to USC Keck Medical Center & Sam's care team for keeping our boy Sam healthy. While Sam is not a doctor, we do encourage you to check in with your professional medical care team for guidance related to your own health.
And, of course, thank YOU for your patience, understanding, and respect for Sam’s privacy while he's been on the mend. We appreciate you!

"But mostly, I miss talking and thinking about anything other than cancer" Really put into perspective how dominating it is over your life. It's not just a threat or an illness, it's a process. It's survival. It's staying alive, but slow as possible while also having to somehow juggle the rest of your life because it doesn't just stop because you're in pain. And still coming back to deliver us smiles and laughter, in spite of wounds and utter exhaustion. Godspeed, Sam Riegel, Godspeed.

It was a brilliant move to cover up his medical issue, which he understandably wouldn't have wanted to reveal at the life show. Amazing commitment of Sam to do the life show in that state when he is still struggeling with his voice like that as we saw in just that 5 minute bit. Not so much "amazing acting", since it turns out all that throat wound related stuff was much less of an act and more an issue of him actually still struggeling to speak.

@@LawloGaming both geçmiş olsun and get well soon are used in the same context, which is wishing the recovery of a sick person. that's probably why the translator does that. but while the english one wishes for a recovery in the future, the turkish "geçmiş olsun", as the original commenter said, wishes the illness (or whatever negative situation really, we use it in all bad cases) to immediately be over and become a thing of the past

More practical than poetic. The throat wound of the character was obviously a narrative choice to make it look as if Sam was just roleplaying the character's wounded state when he actually had problems with his voice. He had to pause and take a sip of water twice in this short speach here. If he had played a character who didn't have a narrative reason for his voice failing occasionally, it would probably have been obvious that Sam wasn't allright and people would have speculated.

"I miss thinking about anything other than cancer." I went though this at age 23 (14 years ago now), having your mind dominated by thoughts of not being around to see your wedding, your kids, your parents and loved ones is one of the hardest parts of having cancer. The chemo sucks, the radiotherapy sucks, but they only last for a few hours/days at a time and you can sleep it off. Being trapped with your own thoughts is one of the most devastating parts of cancer. I know this will get lost in an ocean of support but Sam, from the bottom of my heart, I'm so glad you're on the other side of this.

@@wiseone86 came here to say something similar. Diagnosed at 25. Doctors told me, "Treatment will take 4 months if you're unlucky, 2 months if you're lucky. By this time next year it'll be like it never happened!" I'm NED for almost 6 years and it definitely happened; in a lot of ways it's still happening. The most important thing for me is remembering that the worst part is over, that recovery is long and sucks but it sucks a lot less than being in the middle of it. Hey! For us UK Critters - you will have already had this vaccine in school, if you were in a girl year 8 any time after September 2008. (Thankfully it is now also available for boys too, since September 2019.) If you missed this vaccine, it is free on the NHS for females under 25, and males born after 1st September 2006. If this doesn't apply to you, it costs about £180 - however if you have the means to afford that, it's absolutely worth it to keep yourself healthy. Contact your GP if you wish to get vaccinated, and if it applies to you - please go to your pap smears! Both save lives!! All the best to you, Sam 💜 (edited to add some extra info :) )

I think also, when you haven't been able to do something for so long, and especially for such a terrible reason... you want to push through, and do it 100%. Kind of a push back against cancer. Like, "I won't let you stop me." Whatever the reason, I genuinely dont think that he was doing it because of the crying. I think the entire cast has been very open and honest about mental health and a variety of topics around it. And I'd think they would encourage a heartfelt message in that manner. Sam, there's a reason we gave you a standing ovation at The Greek: we love you. I hope you felt it--and keep on feeling it--and that it it buoys you as you make your way through the recovery process. Many of us have lost parts of our body to cancer, and on behalf of all I welcome you to the Survivor's Club. Life after cancer can be a rough, but there is a reaffirmation of life--a fresh gratitude for existence--that sprouts like a phoenix from it. Thank you for sharing your journey. And please keep us posted.

Welcome back Sam, my dad had cancer when I was young and he luckily recovered but it was a long and painful process for him too. Here's to a very well deserved, pain free rest and return to what you love. So glad you're back

I was there in 2016. Cancer found on artery in my shoulder. It’s a horrible experience, but congrats on being on the road to recovery. May you stay cancer free.

@@Ironicteachings you're a legend too friend. It's such an awful experience to have. But I'm hoping from your words being past tense that it's long behind you.

That last part in the end really hit me. As someone who is a cancer survivor, there is nothing worse than having to think/talk about the big C every single day. When you're in the middle of it.... God, it's a constant reminder that you're sick that your life has hit the pause button and this is all you have. Thankfully having a support system helps, but yeah, it sucks. Hugs to Sam and his caregivers. Wishing the best.

Travis cautioning Marisha clued some into FCG's boom being for non-game reasons. I hoped it was for a project that took him away from LA, but now I get why Laura and Ashley cried when he made his entrance for #98.

Dear Sam, Your story has brought me to tears. It's very brave of you to share this and I thank you for it. I've been clean from lymphoma cancer for about a year now. I can relate to the sudden shock you experienced when you were diagnosed. It's truly horrible. I'm very happy to see you're on your way to recovery. Take your time with everything and cherish your 2nd chance. I wholeheartedly agree that people should listen to their body more. It can prevent or put an early stop to many nasty diseases. Best of health to you & a quick recovery! - Oliver

My husband was diagnosed with a super-rare blood cancer. "I miss talking about anything other than cancer" hits especially close to home - it was The Thing that dominated our lives for years. I'm so glad Sam had such a strong support group and is recovering 💖💖💖💖💖💖
