reynanmegx23 it’s just a series of 45* angles.
@xxxviii007
@xxxviii007 4 жыл бұрын
@@reynanmegx23 you cut a 45 degree angle. Apply contact cement, twist and push. The reason he proclaimed he's not a insulator is the fit and finish is not proper. Main issue to help in the future is to use less glue, then allow to tack up until dry to touch. Also a 3 piece 90 using 22.5 degree angles have less joint stress and will last forever. And sliding joints will fail with in 5 years every time. The interior angle gets bunched up, exterior on the insulation is drawn thin and will split.
@JohnDoe-pn6sf
@JohnDoe-pn6sf 4 жыл бұрын
I mean he's right when I was coming up a 45 degree miter is unacceptable and would of been torn out due. The reasoning is the air gap at the 90s can build ice and tear if another joint is unsealed anywhere on the run. 22.5 minimum was the angle for all cuts 15 degrees for ptraps. But it takes way to much time

we use liquid polyurethane insulation foam for those kind of reinsulation jobs. back when I was working in a hospital, the dietary department would always leave the walk in freezer/cooler door open that would lead to evap coil freezing shut. we installed door switch but the staff would put magnets on the sensors and later put motion sensors but the staff, again put waving cat figurine to defeat it. the dietary department staff says they do leave the door open because sometimes the heat in the kitchen becomes unbearable, so we installed them a 10 tonner air conditioner and upsize the fresh air and exhaust fan. the migratory birds and pigeons are the scourges of our condensing units back then. we put chicken wires, fences and shields. but the birds would still find a way to nest on our condensing unit area. one day I got feed up on cleaning and shooing the birds away on every shifts I did. I bought a box full of toy snakes and I place all over the condensing units area and the birds did not come near them again. the funny story is when send a newbie on the roof to check on the condensing units and later come running back at the workshop, pasty and shouting that there is a huge pythons on the roof.

Hold on now, these idiots would leave the cooler door open to try to cool the room. What about the stuff inside the cooler thats supposed to be cold?! This is the logic of nurses?!
@rupe53
@rupe53 4 жыл бұрын
allan b ... too much heat in the kitchen is not the only reason they leave the door open all the time. In a busy place there's staff running around with arm loads or push carts of food and since their hands are full they don't bother to latch the door. This can go on for hours at a time. On the upsize of the of fresh air for kitchen ventilation, that's spot on but it needs to be in the right place or the staff will block it again come winter time due to the cold draft. Animals and birds on / in rooftops units are a royal pain. I used to keep rolls of hardware cloth (coarse window screen) in my work van. Cut to fit and secure with zip-screws. I can't tell you how many times I had to extend the screening right down to the roof so critters didn't nest under the units.

@@Shark5060 There are often cases where people/installers/whoever cheaps out on the evaporators and they end up with some ice on it all the time. Or they often ice up like this one. Basically in most similar cold rooms you need to pick an evap with a bigger fin spacing or they ice up. Now... that usually costs more, sometimes you have to wait cause they don't have one in stock, etc. And then they improvise. You get the idea.

In the opening shots of the vid, I couldn't believe how many boxes there are stacked along side of the evaporator and underneath as well. I would have thought that could contribute to the build up because of poor air flow. It's a common sense thing and running kitchens for years, I do remembering in my young days a tech explaining not to restrict air flow. He said never stack boxes on the sides of the evaporator or up to the defrost pan. Why on earth would the coil need air flow ? (Insert extreme sarcasm) As always, Meticulous Detailed repair.

Probably only guaranteed weatherproof if installed at very particular angle, different from the existing one. If you say you’re using Safari, the tech-support recommendation is that you use Firefox or Chrome. If it’s Chrome you’re using, they recommend Internet Explorer or Firefox. Obviously the problem you’re having is your fault because you’re the only one on the phone having any issues, as the tech’s machine is never down when you’re calling.

If there is ice in the strobe that means there is no barrier between the outside of the freezer and the fire strobe. The best method to stop this is by injecting silicone into the conduit (and outside the conduit in the freezer body) to stop the outside air from condensing and dripping into the fixture. I've done 4 freezers like this, never had a problem

One tip for insulating suction lines in freezers... Actually glue the end of the insulation, in this case where the sensor was, to the suction line. When the end of the insulation is open, moisture will ingress and freeze and expand. It's important to seal the open end.

Kudos on the video.. Beside age thing, one of the reasons i repurposed was electronics being used to a greater and greater extent. Main bitch about electronics; every manufacture has their proprietary way of doing the same thing There is no standard. Getting reliable tech support was getting more difficult and companies where all starting to go to authorized tech people only. (Farmers are having a huge problem with this.) Intermittent problems are also more difficult on electronics, Old adage if it ain't broke when I'm there I can't fix it. (I am, i think a little like you, if i didn't accomplish anything for the customer, i had a hard time justifying, to myself, charging for the time even though i put the best effort in to solve an intermittent problem) On the insulation repair... Use the softer type of insulation (1"2 wall) slit it into 1" strips and spiral wrap it over itself. Easy to go around elbows and p traps, in a walkin freezer also easy to double wrap. Use the good Scotch 33+ electrical tape to secure the end. Always kept a couple lengths of 3/4" id insulation in rig. Can repair any size suction insulation, also good to use for padding in other areas.

3:25 - I'm only this far along, and my first impression is: there is virtually NO airflow around the evaporator. If that is not the root cause, it's certainly a contributing factor. The plugged-up drain is also suspect. I don't blame you for changing the sensors because, like you said, you were already there and the sensors are a likely cause, and the potential to save your time (and the added cost to the client for a future service call) justifies that recommendation. I don't know how "smart" these systems are, perhaps the Brain Box "saw" the icing condition and therefore entered defrost more often to try and remedy the issue? I wouldn't knock your insulation job because I know I couldn't do half as well as you did, and to be honest, I've never seen a job done that well. The jobs I see are usually split-foam tubes zip-tied around the pipes, the type of insulation sold in home improvement stores for basement water pipes, rarely taped, never glued. Most of these have been in the franchised restaurant industry, I've actually seen better work done at Mom-and-Pop stores.

When you come across ECM's do you consider replacing them with conventional motors? Over the years I have worked on some residential split-systems where a evaporator motor had taken lightning hits and their control boards where toasted, on two of them the customers had the motors replaced less than a year earlier, keep in mind we live in the lightning capitol of the U.S., these people are retired and on fixed incomes and really didn't have the money to buy another ECM, or actually really any other motor for that matter,however they need their AC working for health reasons. I had to solve the problem at as low of a price as I could. Now I understand ECM's are more expensive that a cap run motor, but are supposed to save energy, which I discovered would take many years of run time to beat a cap run motor. Looking at the other companies invoice, (they do a lot of radio advertising and their techs are commission incentivised ) I really felt the previous company really jammed it to them on the markup. My counter guy recommended a cap run, he explained he had a generic cap run that had the same RPM, same HP and same frame so it would right into the existing motor mount, all I had to do was cut the excess of the mounting screws ,after I had it in place, why the screws where so long I don't know but the motors fit right in, I found a safe place to ty-wrap the cap in and it was showtime. And the best part was when I handed the invoice to the customer, in both cases I thought the customer was going to cry because of the much lower price I was able to do the job for. And both agreed to go with a maintenance plan where one of us would stop by four times a year, check the charge which is seldom needed and do some house keeping, new filters, make sure the condensate drain was nice and clear, the A coil was nice and clean and the condenser was de-leafed and herbicide was sprayed around the unit twice a year to keep the grass and weeds away from the condenser. I don't do any advertising but do get a number of customer references and for me it seems to work well. Charge a fair price, take of the customer and word gets around.

the insulation was good the miter joints where cut really good, the glue job not so much. You should not see any yellow and that "glue" is not so much glue as it is a contact cement. It should never be put on that thick or be runny. You put some on each side of the cut let it sit for a few sec depending on how much you used, you should be able to touch it with your fingers and get no glue on them should just be tacky. Once you put the two sides together they should stuck and take some pulling to get apart. (they do make the glue in black also K-Flex 620)

Just wondering...are any of these systems' data accessible remotely? I've worked in places that had remote sensing capabilities for equipment where you can view live data (and alarms for malfunctions) from miles away. Not refrigeration equipment, necessarily, but building systems data. I think of this when I saw Ethernet connections on this cooler to hook up to your tablet. Having this capability could quickly alert technicians there's a problem. Just wondering if you encounter any remote sensing systems or if everything has to have troubleshooting done in person. Thanks for the fantastic videos. Very entertaining!

Try placing some moth balls in the corner of the enclosure (use an old soup can with a few holes punched in the side) - they won't last very long in a hot environment but the fumes will linger and repel all kinds of pests.

Dude let me add more tip. This coldroom is a freezer. There should be a proper flow of air around the evaporator. Meaning theres no product blocking around the evaporator. There should be night curtain. Fan motor must off when they loading/unloading item. Defrosting should only 35 minutes with the 12 degrees celsius termination. Long duration of defrosting will cause moist from the ceiling.

Do you run the insulation through the box walls/ceiling? I have found moisture wicking following the tube/insulation. On repairs I removed the insulation about 1 inch above and below the ceiling and foamed the space. Seals moisture out and also supports and isolates the tubing from contacting the metal

I've worked at my restaurant for 14 years. Our freezer has dual units because it is so large. They generally only freeze up if they are low on gas, drain line gets plugged, or the defrost isn't long enough. Our units run on timers, and we tend to adjust them according to dry winter air or humid summer air. Humidity alone can cause fast ice build up.

I worked a store floor that had one duel rack, one on left, one on right iced to the drain tray in 24 hours of power to the fans failure. Told the boss he said ooooooo it's probably just slow on the de frost. Some hours later meat man chewed him out sure enough fan power supply was burned out. So much ice built it ripped the drain rack off when mid day de frost came on.

Sensors weren't the issue. Low on gas causing ice up at evap inlet, if coil sensor placement was on the first couple of evap turns it could easily trigger repeated defrosts based on coil vs room temp differential. The exv was flooding the start of the coil trying to maintain suction line superheat. The fact that the evaporator was all boxed in by product surely didn't help.
