You could turn those feeding containers upside down after goats have eaten their breakfast. That way you shouldn't have to empty them from snow nor ice. Or you could store them in the milking room between feeding times. That way you could ration the feed inside and carry containers out. They seem to be pretty light. And happy THIS year from Finland!

I like how you always have something to make. You made a good shop to work in and you and your wife make a good compatible team that knows what needs to be done. The barn really turned out good. The one thing I didn’t like was the ladder for the loft. I thought a regular ladder that you could store against the wall would have given you the freedom to raise it anywhere a long the loft. I’m waiting for the garage and hope it’s big enough to incorporate a small auto shop for doing small things on your vehicles. Oil changes, batteries, starters and what ever you need actually flat tires and such. You seem to be a very capable guy that can handle all things that come your way. God bless you and yours, and CWC.

Thanks guys for a nice presentation... I realize Olivia is usually at school when many of these building projects are underway but I would be curious to see if she has any interest in some of it, perhaps get her started with basic tape measure measurements and simple fractions, using the square for drawing cut lines, etc. This will give her some bragging rights & simple math skills at the same time... My gut feeling is Mom & Dad might be pleasantly surprised! Smoker frame is looking great & the pie crust top flip was outrageously funny! Bill on the Hill... :~)

It is so neat that all these things I remember as a child are coming back. For my family it was not homesteading it was survival. They had smoke houses, they butchered their own hogs and they were the best hams, sausage and tenderloin. Would love to have red eye gravy again. Hope that smoke house gives all of you some good memories. Had a milk cow. Made butter and buttermilk but did it much differently than what I have seen on you tube so far. I was a child so can’t remember exactly. Know that the milk sat at room air and clabbered. Then she churned, I helped her with that some. The buttermilk was so good just to drink as well as cooking with.

When you build the lattice topping for the pie, gently move the paper to the freezer and allow the pieces to freeze, till it's a solid construct. Then flip it onto the pie, allow to warm a bit, then adjust and crimp the piece onto the bottom. Easy peasy..........

"Build" your lattice ON the pie! Waaaay to tricky to try to keep it intact when moving it. Although a crumble topping is also very tasty on a Blueberry Pie! I also think you should have a First Aid kit out there in the workshop!
@DisabledUKPrepper4 жыл бұрын
We had a distant relative who was a pasty chef at The Ritz in the 1920's/1930's. And his recipe used a tablespoon of malt vinegar in the pie crust recipe (when cooking a pastry top and base). Adjust the amount if you only use a pastry base. It helps keep it flaky, but you don't get any kind of vinegar taste.

Good morning Lumnah family. Another great video along with with my morning coffee. Loved seeing Figaro this morning. Made me smile to hear you say the names Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb that I have suggested. Definitely going to need a first aid kit down in the barn. Also wanted to say that you are going to need to use a metal dripping pan in the bottom of your smoker or it is going to get very messy from the drippings. Best trick for lattice pie crust is to gently roll it up on the rolling pin. So far you have lucked up on the amount of snow this winter. Have to enjoy the snow through watching your videos. ;) Everything is looking good as usual. Have a blessed day.

And speaking of looking good, oh boy, that pie looked so yummy along with the whipped topping! You guys were brave to do a lattice top and it didn't turn out to bad. Besides, I'm with Al, it is all about the taste, not the looks. I still thought it was a pretty pie though. Gina you can make your dough in your kitchen aid. So much faster and easier. I used to make my pie dough by hand like you did, then got my KA mixer and started making it in that with the dough hook and have never looked back.

Looks like it's coming along nicely. If I may suggest, when you have to make the same cuts with your miter saw, cut one, lock the saw in the down position, lay your dimensional piece against the blade and then screw a stop block at the other end. You'll not have to measure the remaining pieces and they'll all be exactly the same length. You might also want to add a little glue to your joints. It will make them many many times stronger.

As Gina was looking for a band-aid today, and that you two do most of your "fabrications" in or around the workshop you should consider installing a small "First Aid Station" similar to those in commercial environments. Nothing too elaborate. Probably a "box" about 8x12x4 that you could attach to the wall near the sink. Can be purchased (inexpensively. Less than $40.00 ????) fully stocked (ie: Band-aids, gauze, neosporin, disinfectant, alcohol, etc.), probably locally but I assume something on Amazon. To be replenished locally (CVS?) when needed.
