I absolutely love how you used a real hat to set the fondant cap!!! I have never seen the use of shortening to adhere fondant to ganache either! 😍😃 just brilliant!!! It came out awesome!!!

Thanks so much Beth! I am really happy with it. I think the brim looks a lot more realistic than my last cap cake and I think that has a lot to do with letting it dry on the real cap. With the shortening method, you get a bit more time to work with and move the fondant around unlike when water is used as the glue as the water sticks hard and fast and you need to be quick! :-)

why did you add that strip of black fondant on the brim at the back/bottom? does it help to adhere the brim to the cake?

Yes, it helps hold the brim. You can do without it but it's a bit of extra insurance ;-)

Do you eat the left over stuff from your cooking?

What do you mean left over? Any off cuts of cake for example are saved and frozen for when I make cake pops. Any left over ganache is frozen for future use etc. I try really hard not to waste anything. Most of the things I make in the video are made for friends and family as birthday cakes/treats etc. Thanks for watching :-)
