In this, Episode 60 and part 1 of this 9 degree SB Chevy cylinder head review DV investigates the validity of the claims of a near conventional small block head design that out performs even the best cup car heads. These heads are also capable of out flowing almost every 24 -26 degree BB Chevy heads and that in itself is a spectacular feat of cylinder head engineering. Not content with that this head dedsigner also has a SB Ford version!

THE FORD CLEVELAND HEADS WERE THE ULTIMATE IN POLLY ANGLE HEAD DESIGN. IT IS STATE-OF-THE-ART. ALL YOUR SYMMETRICAL CHEVY RACING HEADS TODAY ARE ALL FORD CLEVELAND DESIGNS. THE DRCE-DRAG RACE COMPETITION ENGINE GM MADE IN 1983. WHEN THE NHRA MANDATED TO 500 CUBIC INCH RULE IS A PLOY TO GET RID OF THE FORD CLEVELAND ENGINE. IS NOTHING MORE THAN A OLDSMOBILE BLOCK STUFFED LIKE A THANKSGIVING DAY TURKEY WITH A ROTATING ASSEMBLY FROM A BIG BLOCK CHEVY. THEN WARREN JOHNSON ALONG WITH GM MADE A BIG PAIR OF FORD CLEVELAND HEADS FOR IT.. WHAT CHEVY HAS BEEN WINNING WITH SINCE 1983 IN PRO STOCK IS NOTHING MORE THAN A BIG CUBE FORD CLEVELAND MOTOR. THIS IS THE REASON FORD DOESN'T PARTICIPATE IN PRO STOCK. BECAUSE IT'S ALREADY FORD CLEVELAND POWERED. IF FORD WAS TO PRODUCE A MODERN PROSTOCK CLEVELAND-STYLE HEAD. THEY WOULD BE FACED WITH RULES FROM THE NHRA AND STIPULATIONS ON HEAD DESIGN TO PREVENT THEM FROM DOMINATING THE SPORT LIKE THEY DID BACK IN THE 70'S. FORD WOULD LOVE TO ENTER PROSTOCK. BUT THE HENCHMEN FOR GM THE NHRA WHICH IS ANOTHER DIVISION OF GM. WOULD HIGHLY GOVERN AND MAKE RULES BOTH WRITTEN AND UNWRITTEN TO PREVENT THEM FROM WINNING. CHEVY HAS BEEN CHEATING THEIR WAY TO THE FINISH LINE SINCE THE AMA BAN OF 1957.

@@Frank289100 NASCAR banned the Cleveland’s back in 1986 because the Fords were making 70+ more hp than the Chevys. Chevy basically got a race purpose engine in NASCAR because they were running Buick and Pontiac style cylinder heads in the early 80’s. Lake Speed switched to Ford because they’re having to spend about $10-15K on a set of cylinder heads for Chevy engines, but the Cleveland’s A3-D3’s cylinder heads were half the cost and made way more power. And then NASCAR gave Chevy the SB2 in 96 and then the RO7 in 2007. Ford was stuck with the same old conventional 351-C headed Windsor up until 2010. NASCAR finally gave Ford the FR9. NASCAR wouldn’t give Ford nothing until Chevy passed Ford for the most wins. It did take Chevy 60 years and race purpose engines vs Fords conventional Cleveland and Windsor platforms. Yeah we’re killing the Chevy guys on the streets with a NA 418-W.

@@StainlessTIG2 THANK YOU FOR POSTING THESE FACTS. NASCAR AND THE NHRA ARE JUST OTHER DIVISIONS OF GM AND THE OFFICALS ARE THEIR HENCHMEN AND ITS BEEN THAT WAY SINCE THE 1960'S.THESE FACTS MAKE GOOD DEBATES FOR FORUM OF FORD VS CHEVY AND FOR YOU TUBE DEBATES. AROUND TEN YEARS AGO ON YOU TUBE. I WAS POSTING LOTS OF FORD HISTORY AND THIS FELLOW (KELLY LUNI) STARTED CHALLENGING ME WITH EVERY POST I MADE. HE WAS LIVING THE CHEVY PIPE DREAM AND IT GOT SO BAD. THIS GUY GOT SO VIOLENT WITH HIS WORDS. I COULD SPIRITUALLY FEEL AND TOUCH HIS HATRED FOR ME, POSTING THE TRUTH. HE EVEN SAID IF I WAS IN FRONT OF HIM HE WOULD OPEN UP MY SKULL WITH A BALL PEEN HAMMER, LITERALLY HE WANTED TO KILL ME. LIKE THE SAYING GOES "DON'T TALK RELIGION AND POLITICS". THEY SHOULD NOW ALSO ADD IN "FORD VS CHEVY". EVERY DAY I TORMENTED HIM WITH FORD FACTS AND HOW CHEVY FOR DECADES CHEATED THEIR WAY TO THE FINISH LINE. EVENTUALLY HE STOPPED CHALLENGING ME. BECAUSE THE MORE HE DID THE WORSE IT GOT FOR HIM. BORN IN 1961 I GREW UP LOVING ALL THE CARS FROM FORD, CHEVY, CHRYSLER, PONTIAC, BUICK, OLDS, AMC, ETC AND STILL DO TO THIS VERY DAY. @@Frank289100 You have no idea the kind of crap that we’ve had to deal with with the Chevy guys. We had a 66 Fairlane with the poor man’s stroker FE. It was a 390 with the 3.98” 428 crankshaft, 427 medium riser cylinder heads, Harland Sharp rockers, mechanical flat tappet cam, Dove single plane intake, MSD, 9” Ford-4.10 gears. We smoked every SBC-BBC and Slowpars. We beat a 496 BBC 66 nova with Brodex aluminum heads, mechanical roller cam, big Brodex intake, power glide. They followed us to the gas station after we gappedtized them. They get out of the car and start the gas pump and started spraying gas on our back wheels. Not only did they get smoked by a Ford, they got their asses kicked by the Ford boys. I commenced to beat the living dog shit out of the idiot who sprayed the gas. My father had us kids studying martial arts at 5-6 years old. They tried to press charges on us, but the gas station owner pressed charges on them. Yeah they got into serious trouble. The prosecutor pressed 2nd or 3rd degree attempted man slaughter on them. Like today, the Chevy guys always have an excuse not to race us. The only ones that will race us, have $30-50K in their cars. We’ve got like $15K in our whole car from bumper to bumper…It’s funny!

@@StainlessTIG2 THE CHEVY GUYS ARE THE BIGGEST SORE LOSERS TO THE POINT THEY GET VIOLENT WHEN THEY LOSE. ONE THING I ALWAYS NOTICED ABOUT ANYONE WHO WAS INTO CHEVY'S. RECENTLY MY RACING BUDDY WHO WAS INTO CHEVY'S THAT I ALWAYS WENT TO THE TRACK WITH. BEAT ME OUT OF $18,000 FROM 2 PLUMBING JOBS WE DID IN MANHATTAN TOGETHER. IT SHOCKED ME TO NO END. WHEN HE STOPPED TAKING MY CALLS BLOCKING ME. I DON'T FIGHT OVER MONEY, I JUST LAUGH. THE SHAME IS ON HIM. I HAD ANOTHER FRIEND WHO TALKED LOTS OF SHIT. WHEN I WAS BUILDING MY YOUNGER FRIEND'S (WHO WAS ALSO MY EMPLOYEE)1992 AUTOMATIC MUSTANG WITH A E-303 CAM, EDLEBROCK PERFORMER HEADS, FLOW MASTER EXHAUST, LONG TUB HEADERS, BBK INTAKE. I DIDN'T HAVE TO SQEEZE THIS GUYS HEAD TO SEE THE SHIT COME OUT OF HIS MOUTH. WHEN HE KEPT SAYING HE'D BEAT THAT FORD. SO WE SET UP A RACE WITH A LOUSY $100 PUNK OUT MONEY. WE WENT OUT TO THE HAMPTONS RACE TRACK, OUT HERE IN LONG ISLAND NEW YORK. WHEN HE SAW OUR MUSTANG COME OFF THE LINE IN A PRACTICE RUN. HE PUT HIS TAIL BETWEEN HIS LEGS. LATER WHEN IT CAME TIME TO RACE HE CHICKENED OUT. TO THIS VERY DAY HE NEVER PAID US THE PUNK OUT MONEY. LIKE YOU MENTIONED IN YOUR POST, THEY COME TO A RACE WITH A ALL OUT WORKED CHEVY TO RACE A MILD BUILT FORD STREET CAR SO THEY ARE GUARANTEED TO WIN, BUT THEN GET THEIR ASSES BUSTED. I RACED ANOTHER CHEVY GUY ON THE STREET WITH THAT MUSTANG, WHO HAUNTED ME AFTER I CAME OUT OF THIS KOREAN DELI WITH 2 ICE CREAM CONES FOR ME AND MY FRIEND. WHEN I GOT BACK INTO THE MUSTANG. THIS RED 1991 Z-28 CAMARO PULLED UP NEXT TO ME REVVING HIS ENGINE HARD. SO I IGNORED HIM. WHEN I PULLED OUT FROM THE HYDRANT PARKING SPACE I WAS IN AFTER 2 MINUTES. THIS GUY HAD GONE AROUND THE BLOCK AND CAME UP BEHIND ME ONCE AGAIN RACING HIS ENGINE CHALLENGING ME TO A RACE ALSO BLINKING HIS LIGHTS ON AND OFF. SO I TOOK HIM UP TO THE BOULEVARD WITH A KING CONE ICE CREAM CONE IN MY HAND. THE FORD AOD TRANI REQUIRES YOU TO SHIFT FROM LOW GEAR TO 2ND GEAR AND THEN BACK DOWN TO LOW AGAIN TO LOCK 2ND GEAR IN. WITH THE KING CONE IN MY LEFT HAND LICKING AWAY LIKE A 5 YEAR OLD KID. WHEN THAT LIGHT CHANGED HE SAW TAIL LIGHTS, I BLEW HIM AWAY. THIS GUY HAD A 383ci UNDER HIS HOOD. AFTER HE LOST BADLY AND CRUISED BY US. MY FRIEND WHO WAS NEXT TO ME SHOUTED OUT AND POINTED. LOOK AT HIS LICENSE PLATE. I LAUGHED MY BALLS OFF WHEN I READ HIS LICENSE PLATE THAT SAID "UR2 LATE". ON THE INTAKE SIDE ONLY WITH SMALLER RUNNERS AND VALVES FLOWED JUST AS GOOD AS CHEVY'S BEST HEADS THE FUELIE 2.02. THAT'S HOW FAR AHEAD FORD WAS THAN CHEVY AND THE REASON THE LS TODAY USES THE FORD WINDSOR HEAD DESIGN WITH THE RAISED HIGH RISER PORTS FROM THE FORD 427. Those are good heads, but require a lot of exotic parts to work, I would buy MBE billet small block heads in this range of heads. MBE will design the ports to your CID and your application, more of a custom build. MBE claims up to 495 CFM , and 1185 HP naturally aspirated from 400 CID, which is serious flow, and power in a 4.4 bore space SBC N/A.
@shvrdavid
@shvrdavid Жыл бұрын
MBE makes very nice heads. But they also redefine needing exotic parts. Pistons, cams, intake, exhaust, valve train, etc, are all different. The MBE heads on a 400ci making 1185hp is a nitrous motor as well. So yes it is NA, but it is still using a power adder.... You can make similar power with 9 degree heads with nitrous as well.
@donavan2676
@donavan2676 Жыл бұрын
@@shvrdavid No sir, the MBE heads made 1185 HP naturally aspirated. No Power Adder, I know the engine and the class it races in, they do turn it 10k rpm. The dart heads in the video also require special pistons, exhaust, intake, as for camshaft, all race engines built by anybody who knows what they are doing has a custom camshaft. These Dart 9 degree heads are good, but out of the box no comparison to the MBE billet, which are symmetrical, have the valves/ports in more optimal locations. Its not just about flow of the ports, but how it flows through the engine, but the MBE flows 25% more than the Dart 9 degree after DV modifications. 400 vs 500 cfm.

It has to be water-methanol injected or E85 to run 14:1 on low octane fuel. Uratchko has a pump gas small block making 950+, but I don't know anything about it. My bike engines run perfectly well on E85(with modified ECU) and make pretty good power - almost 250 whp at 1000cc, but it took me 7 years of development time to get to that level.

This is a awesome looking head , I'm curious what your opinion is about running a engine on methanol or ethanol, or a blend. To replace a gas engine, and keep the economy or possibly beat it! I was thinking about using something similar to Mercedes OM-606 turbo diesel engine, heavily modified, converted to run on methanol or ethanol, I'm thinking of the diesel 3.0L base because it's built to survive the high compression, and can spin to 5k rpm, and make 500-600 HP, on diesel, with little mods, but convert or uses similar engine, to replace say, a 300 ford with 4bbl EFI, or carb, 9.5:1 and mild cam maybe a small non intercooled turbo, 4-5psi, probably making between 300 and 350 HP, probably something in the middle, with a decent TQ curve, probably making near diesel TQ, I'm. Rambling on a bit, but do you think it's possible to make roughly the same power, and TQ get approximately the same mpg, as the 4.9L on 87-89 gasoline, I do believe a OM-606 diesel on boost, and tuned, can make the power, It possibly use the 5 cylinder 2.5L version to replace the basically 5.0L I6 half the displacement, can it reliably equal the larger engine, or possibly perform better, get the same mpg or more, on the methanol or ethanol, and last , 150k miles + without overhaul, while it can turn 5k maybe close to 6k rpm, if a engine was designed from scratch. T could do 6k easy but let's say it is limited to 5k for survival, it needs to operate in the 1500-5k rpm range, and run a compression ratio to take advantage of the octane of the methanol or ethanol, ( sorry this has taken me a hour to write, I have to keep going to do other things, it's difficult to keep my place) but I was thinking, the power is in the heads, the development would probably require a possible billet head cnc machined, flow tested, ported, seats, chamber work, possibly many flow these sessions, cylinder swirl testing , port velocity testing, maybe testing different valves, and unshroud the valve after all that, then scan the head, make the parts to cast the head, and Before mass production, start all over with the seats and flow testing, the possibly of starting over is real, I'm guessing the development at Lamborghini or for F1 heads, and for this project the exhaust valve would. Be larger than normal being there is 25-30% more fuel going in the cylinder, just to equal the gas air fuel ratio, and ya smaller intake valve to ensure no shrouding, and use the boost to Get back the lost power from the small intake valve wit 6-7 angle seats closely checking flow across them. and The flow all the way into the cylinder , getting swirl, nearly comparable to a diesel engine, the port velocity worked on to get it optimal, probably re-scan and cast a head, to get a as cast head to the point where 30 minutes or so on a cnc can reproduce a head hand ported and chambers CNC to equal perfected hand finished head , polished to perfection, maybe a good cnc can 99.5% get it there, it would be awesome to build a 2.0L 4cylinder that is basically equal to the OM606, and build it to replace a slightly hopped up 5 litre I6 engine in a 4k pound truck, and get the same milage , or more, only on methanol or ethanol , possibly a blend, I hear one works better in winter, so a blend could offer better cold start performance, a glow plug , in chamber, and/or in the intake runner, heated to 250°f minimum, not enough to ignite the alcohol, making exceptionally cold starting much easier, possibly required for direct injection of methanol, I don't think a -30 ° F engine would want to start! Spraying methanol on the sparkplug! My whole point is green fuel, batteries are not the answer for everyone yet atleast, we need a cleaner fuel, methanol can be made from wood and plant matter, ethanol from sugar , potatoes, corn, peas, beets , fruits, we waste tons of food, it can be processed to remove the carbs and starches, and pyrolysis will remove any methanol from the stalks and from wood, also release basically natural gas, it methane, and some can crate basically a crude oil, that can be further processed, there is very little carbon in the alcohol, and growing the plants , part will stay in the ground, putting carbon in the ground permanently, plus the carbon remaining from the pyrolysis can be use as fertilizer putting carbon in the soil, this can help the earth, create fuel, and put carbon back in the earth, I was thinking plant something like bamboo, that is large , as well as fast growing, maybe it can produce methanol, the remains from sugar cane, can be put through the pyrolysis process, after being dried, if the oil companies invest in this, the big thing is heavy trucks can be converted to run in ethanol, the pulling tractors have been doing it for years, they will loose about 25% if their range, but adding a electric motor and battery to the truck adding about 250-300 ft lb TQ, and 150-200 HP, with a 100-150 mile range, to basically propel the truck down the highway, or helping the engine on steep grades, and acceleration, and on the docks making things quieter, and should be capable of keeping a loaded truck traveling at speed for a while, , 150 miles, at 70 mph, it may not accelerate it at that speed but should maintain that speed, the truck could be idling, and also making power moving the truck, use cylinder deactivation to to limit fuel use, you know much more about this than I do, I just think we need to make the effort! What got me thinking about this, was powering a generator using a 10hp gas engine, I got to thinking, maybe I can build a 5-6 HP engine to run on methanol or ethanol, actually designed for the high octane fuel, and , and the 25-30% more required would be offset by the use of a smaller engine, the higher octane equivalent, can allow much higher compression, making much more power, and it should run cooler! Or equal, being it's running a bit harder, use a 6.5hp engine, modified, on methanol, compression require a decomp lever and electric start, I was thinking about running 200-220 psi compression, and modify a carb to handle ethanol, maybe slightly modify the cam and or timing, maybe have the cam ground, maybe give it more lift, a slight bit of duration, and maybe change the valve timing slightly, learning what will be required to get normal use from a modified alcohol engine, using a single cylinder is the easiest way to do it!! But building VA car engine with a head optimized for alcohol, would be awesome, especially if it can be richened a bit more, and add a bit of nitro methane, 5-10% with a extra 10-15% more fuel, it would be awesome to see what difference it can make, I have totally rambled so much and far from subject, so sorry, but this idea has plagued me for a few years, if you made it this far, hope you had a good holiday season, Christmas or whatever you may do, and happy New year!! Sorry again for getting so carried away, way far far away! Good day!

I could walk in say I needed a set of pushrods of a certain length etc. and he would go into the shop and 30 minutes later they would be done. But that was over 50 years ago.
