In this, Episode 61 of Powertec 10 DV moves on to the second part of our very comprehensive review of the UltraPro 9 degree small block Chevy heads. These heads are of parallel valve design (i.e. not canted like the SB 2 heads) and- although we did not quite match UltraPro's numbers we did see figures the outflowed the best cup car SB2 heads, but we are not done here so be ready to watch part 3 were we really go to town on these highly effective heads.

4.4 bore Cl SBC, max reasonable bore is 4.185 x 4.125 stroke = 454ci, correct? This engine will need around 618 lbs/ft torque @ 8500RPM to produce 1000hp, correct? Do you plan on spinning this engine higher? Definitely possible, but at what point would overall area under the curve start going away in tradeoff for a few more peak HP? As in if you spin it to peak at 9500RPM, it would only need to produce 553lbs/ft torque. Seems total airflow capacity + airflow stability will mostly dictate the peak RPM, with cam timing being less influential? David, this is going to be the best You-Tube build of all time! Has me on the edge of my seat waiting for upcoming episodes! Thanks for making this 60yo former engine builder and hot rodder's day!

i was in a coma for the 2-3 days leading up to my 13th birthday, had to learn how to talk properly, walking was also a re-learning process, but when you're young its alot easier to bounce back, with better neuroplasticity. when i was 22 i had an intra-ventriucular haemorrhage caused by medical mis/mal -practice i can only describe it as working on a laggy computer that has moments where it will 'hang', it affects memory and recall too. shortly after suffering a brain injury its an empty feeling, and maybe an emotional anxiety inducing dread at times of noticing these deficits. in general i have recovered, and i still have a very high IQ but sometimes i struggle with continuity of thought and i think that has to do with brain coherence (think of coherence as spreading cpu load over multiple cores, and not being able to do that effectively because of unbalanced voltages)

Not sure if you have tried it but I've used Vinamold for casting 2 stroke ports. You just melt it in the microwave and pour and it sets fairly quickly, and removes easily too. Plus it's reusable.

I have a pair of New Zealand heads the ol Pontiac style chambers 2.05 and on the end tax on 199 or something like that on the exhaust really heavy cast head , I have had them 300 degrees of a melt down 383 SB Chevy IMCA modified and lost the water and did not catch it in time ,,, when I got to my pit u dear power , I could not get it to turn off , it was dieseling and even with he coil wire off it kept running,we had to put a rag in the carburetor, the oil was suet turned to powder , so I hade those head checked for cracks nothing cracked , did a valve job on them and I have been useing them for years I love them buy they are just a little bit to heavy anyway love the teaching you give us thanks BigAl California

One thing I dont follow. You keep saying that the intake valve is the biggest restriction. So if that's the case then why does a bigger Port flow more?

MBE. RFD. Allpro these guys all have small block heads that flow 420-450cfm with the normal port locations they range from 13 degree to 10. I think MBE has a symmetrical port head that flows 480cfm.

Flow CFM in the low to mid 400’s at about .8” lift is impressive. The port volume is big. It will be interesting to see the next video with more data about the quality of the flow. Also ratio of intake to exhaust flow. The heads I am using for a street motor project flow 416 CFM at .8" but with a 195cc port. A different V8 motor series from FoMoCo though

It doesnt appear that the small port big block heads would flow much. The large port big block heads look like they have the capacity to flow a lot. I dont doubt for a minute that aftermarket heads would flow more than small port BB heads.

@@FatGuyBuilds Ported Trick Flows always done well or Ported TFS-R, if your doing AFR the minimum head is 205cc, you can go bigger. I'd shoot for flow numbers simiilar to the ported LS3 heads. So around 320-360cfm peak with good low lift. Compression just set 11.25:1 for a good N/A build, you'll use 93 octane. Tight LSA's are winning of like 108 lsa. Rich Holdener did an LSA test ona 500HP build where the only thing changed was LSA. And the LSA's tested were 120, 112 and 108. 112 beat the 120 LSA in torque by 34 ft-lb to 5500 rpm and matched the 120LSA after. 108 beat the 112 LSA in torque by 14 ft-lb to 5500 rpm and then beat it at the top by 7 HP. That being said you could go to Brian Tooley or Ed Curtis for cam suggestion and mention "tight LSA". On the exhaust the 1 7/8" LT's are winning in the LS world. 3" dual exhaust. Intake manifold would be a super victor matched to your heads. If it's EFI it's the Vic 5.0. Carb on this level would be at least a 750 holley dp or similar flowing EFI components. There's no reason today why a hot street 347 should make less than 500 HP and less than 475 tq.

@vortecturbo

The bowl and short side radius need a lot of love on that head keep the width somewhat semi narrow it's got a lot of high-speed Port velocity and you can lay the chamber back on the LT1 head needs chamber lay back just like how this cylinder head was done. And raise the roof for the runner and follow the airflow of what the port wants to do not necessarily what you think it should do. Also a quality 5 angle VJ
