For all the flaws Smallville had, this was actually well done. Beforehand, Lionel believed Lex to have murdered the real Julian by smothering him as a baby when in truth, Lex merely took the fall for what Lilian Luthor did. In return, adult Lex brought Julian "back" by cloning him in the hopes that he could get back his lost brother. In the end, Lex ordered his execution right in front of Lionel, who bore witness to the real murder of his son and this time, entirely by Lex's hand.

Kinda sad. When you look back a few seasons when lex was a "normal" young man, and compare it to this. Back in S1 etc he was BEST friend with clark, friends with lana, not liked but respected by Jonathan kent, and wanted to be part of his family, doing everything to help the kents. Then here he is just gone, completly alone, clark and lex enemies, lana his enemy, lionel is not realy part of his life and he favors clark over his son. He clones and kills his brother and ultimatly kills lionel to. Lionel should have helped his son more, because he was a big reason lex turned out like this.

***** No, but the way people treated him made him this. Most of us have bad sides. Lex was abused by lionel, and everyone didnt like him beause of his father. The only one who loved him was his mom and she died when he was Young. Clark bullied him, for misstakes less severe then he made himself.

Throughout the whole series, Clark (an alien) ends up with 3 fathers: Jonathan Kent (dies), Lionel Luthor professes to see him as a son (he dies too), and Jor-El (dead). Lex wanted... no, *needed* just one father. Just one person to care about him, but even his own father hated him (in one episode it is implied that Lionel hated Lex because he though Lex killed Julian. When he finds out it was actually Lex's mom, he breaks down saying how different things would have been had he known - in short, being a good guy made Lex the most hated person in the world).

It's really sad. I agree lionel should have tried harder to help lex and be by his real son side. but instead he went to clark and kept ignoring lex. No wonder Lex killed him. Still sad, so much pain

this was so sad. I was rooting for julian and he was killed. So unfair. Lex was going mad. Cloning and killing Jillian was very messed up. And clana's falling out in the end. one of the best ending of the episodes!

This episode was at the end of the whole Bizarro arc. Bizarro trapped Clark in the fortress for about a month. During that time, he was being a better boyfriend to Lana than Clark ever was (and yes, he was tearing that ass up.) They were actually about to run off together when Clark got loose. I think Lana is the one who ended up doing in Bizarro, All that angst is due to Lana sleeping w/Bizarro (even though she thought it was Clark) and having a better relationship w/him than Clark.

Jor El was the one that trapped him in the Fortress for not listening to hima bout the Crystal. Bizzaro came back to Smallville and Clark was apparently AWOL so he filled in for Clark

Clark was mad at her, after he found out she was with the evil version of him pretending to be clark when he was trapped in the phantom zone. She didn't know it wasn't clark but she should have noticed it wasn't cause he acted a bit different and she slept with him. So clark was upset

Jimmy Darwin Nope, that’s why that Julien was special. He was a fluke. An unexplainable success. Even if he could, he’d just be a reminder that Julien is the son that Lionel wanted.

I think he wouldn't do another clone of julian bc Gabriel was a perfect Julian's clone and he turned away from lex just like all people did and lex killed him for it. Julian is a good person and his place isn't with lex. Since lex loved his brother so much, he understood that he made a terrible mad mistake
